I sure hope that anyone on here that is into music has at least checked out this band. They are some of the most talented musicians in a long time, and many including myself compare the guitarist to hendrix. if you are into some good rock check them out. very trippy. thier first cd deals with a druggie shooting up and going into a coma where has horrific visions for the next 7 songs, till he wakes up and is so scarred from his dreams that he commits suicide. yah. trippy stuff.

keep in mind their crazy range of influences -- a lot of ambient/experimental/progressive stuff. i never really saw it as an attempt to trip you out but sometimes they push the ambient side of things too far.
Deloused is my favorite by them too though

Mars Volta may have better musicians than At the Drive-In but they'll never have more passion and heart than the drive in. They deffinatley toned it down alot to appeal to the masses.

/\/\/\/\/\ they have pretty much the same core muscians, the only thing toned down about mars volta are the deliverance of the lyrics.
i think volta are more out there than at the drive in
but drive in where alot more raw till relationship of command which is really really produced, awesome but produced.
acrobatic tenement is an awesome album
do you listen to sparta ?

Sparta is decent.
I can't listen to them without thinking "man At The Drive-In were gonna be legends."
Don't get me wrong, they'll have a huge part in musical history one day. Every At The Drive-In did was golden. From their first EP, to Relationship in Command, their growth is tremendous and had a sound many bands adapt today subtly in their sound. They were ages ahead of their time.
Mars Volta, I think they're decent too. But not great. And I think the same thing when I listen to them.
This is the result of when greatness splinters into two.
They have their remaining core, but neither band I thought fully developed a chemistry At The Drive-In possessed. Their chemistry and energy was unreal.

I love these guys. De-Loused and Frances the Mute by far their best albums, and certainly up there on my play list

Whatever floats your boat, but I can't stand this stuff. To me it sounds like a bunch of random chords, a dude slamming on drums and a guy screaming

you must not know a thing about music than. all of the Mars Volta's albums are indeed impressive,, they're probably some of the best musicians performing today. The sad thing is that after John Theodore left i havent really seen them moving forward at all. He was the core of that band and when i saw them with their other drummer (cant think of his name right now) I was greatly dissapointed,, as their earlier shows were fucking amazing.

Yeah I think so. They play world wide quite often, and never in Sacramento...
