Welcome to my Ghetto Parijuanas!
This is my attempt at growing some seeds that I picked up from a seed dealer at last year's Hempfest (http://hempfest.ca). At Hempfest I make these really cool maple pipes on my wood turning lathe and give them out or trade them for stuff. (I'll post pics of the pipes later).
Anyway, I asked the guy for some good indoor hydro seeds and he gave me a bag of (10) Kali Mist X Thitantic in trade for one of my pipes.
So, the fun began. I took 4 of the seeds and did the wet paper towel thing in styrofoam cups. I covered the cups with cling-wrap to keep the moisture in. I sat the cups on top of my server's monitor. I use my server's monitor because it is never on...it just sits in standby mostly and emits less heat than an active screen.
I also had a baggie of seeds I collected over the past year that I affectionately called my Happy Hippy Fun Trail Mix.
So, I got these little styrofoam cups all over my house now just hoping something good will happen. Prior to this, my luck with plants hasn't been good. I couldn't grow ice cubes in Alaska.
So anyway then I wait a few days.....
Well, not 1 of my Trail Mix seeds sprouted. But all 4 of my good seeds got their tap root out in 3 days. Joy!
That's great I said! But...I had no soil...no pots...no lights...no nutes....no money...nothing. So, I had to think fast of something to do.
I got my shovel and went out in the back yard and dug up some grass where the dog doesn't pee and filled my blue recycling bin with dirt and worms I shook out of the grass. (My blue bin is now my permanent compost bin / worm farm and it's doing surprisingly well with many new baby worms over the past month and lots of castings.)
I had no pots either, so I cut the bottoms off 500ml water bottles, turned them upside down, and filled them with some of the dirt I baked in the oven. (yummy)
I really didn't want to use dirt but I had no other medium to start a hydro grow.
My next problem was to build something for my "net pots" to sit in. The first thing I used was a wallpaper tray with a styrofoam cover with holes cut into it.
After that, I "found" a bigger tray and made a custom top out of slats of MDF.
I didn't have an air pump and the pet store in the mall closed down and I was stuck. I called my dad up and told him I needed the air pump from the old aquarium. My excuse was that my friend gave my his piranhas. Hence....my Parijuanas were born! Whenever I need a ride to the pet store or hydro store I just blame it on something I need for the fish.
