I'm considering not voting.

Louisiana State elections are coming up and I want to put a bullet through my brain. I had the wonderful privilege of watching a bit of the Senate race debate that took place on campus. Luckily, thanks to the DVR, I was able to fast forward through most of it. One of the candidates I believe may be clinically insane, the other is a 22 year old grad student who had to keep reading his answers off a piece of paper, and the person currently holding the position comes off as a rich snob.

Secondly, I feel it is safe to say, 90% of all ad campaigns I've seen and heard recently, have been smearing other candidates. I know none of their good qualities because they don't advertise them. They instead bash their opponents... there-for supporting the belief that all elections are simply the process of choosing the better of several A-holes.

It seems to be getting a little pathetic. Personally, I feel they should turn major elections into reality shows. Why not jump on the band wagon? They can make a game show out of it. Instead of candidates being able to easily toss bull shit around in a debate. Give them challenges they may face, possible scenario's of the decisions they will have to make, and let the voters decide based on that, who they want to vote for.

Are they the only two running for office? There might be someone on the ballot that nobody has heard of. You should vote for the guy nobody has heard of just to show it to them if you can.

I rarely vote for a candidate. I instead vote on the intiatives and referendums. A lot of these are written by citizens just trying to change some bullshit law. Atleast vote on them. Screw the candidates. If they're not a pig before being elected they will be shortly after being elected.

i see what you mean i unfortunatly i can not vote. ive only lived here bout a month or so but yea louisiana politics are screwed up. and your right all ive seen is smear adds. this is a totally differant world here. the only place i know of with more political corruption is washingon dc. but definatly get out and vote its one of our most important rights and may freedom guide your choice.

Better yet, you should lose privileges and rights for not voting.
Didn't vote? You can't get a drivers license.
Didn't vote? No public school for your kids.
Didn't vote? No deductions on your tax form.

People shouldn't be persecuted for not voting. I can totally understand the despair. Just vote on the issues and don't worry about the candidates.Just like this election cycle. All a bunch of crooks running. The only possibly MIGHT be Ron Paul. But if he got elected how long before he went back on his promises too?

You can't force people to use their rights. If that were the case, America would be a dictatorship instead of a democratic/Socialist state.

Personally, I feel voting should not be a right for all. I would be more than happy to support limiting the right to vote to those who prove they are intelligent enough to make an intelligent decision. As opposed to voting on someone simply because they are the same sex, race, or religion as themselves.

Hell, we got stuck with Blanco as Governor last time simply because people around here didn't want to vote for someone with brown skin. This isn't just a suspicion either. I have had at least 15 people tell me they didn't vote for Bobby Jindal last election because he was "Arab looking." He was born in f-ing Louisiana.

Unfortunately, if there were an I.Q. requirement to vote, it wouldn't take long for them to start limiting more of our rights.

No one is required to exercise their rights. Thats like saying everyone should be punished who does not own a firearm.

I'm also sick of people saying every vote counts. No it doesn't, the system would work just as well if we drew the candidates names out of hats.

I actually didn't think the abundance of smear campaigns was limited to this area. If it is, I suppose it is a symbol of hope... Maybe politics haven't degraded this drastically in other areas... Than again, this area has a long history of political corruption, so I suppose it may have been this way for I while and I just never noticed.

As for those of you who suggested simply voting on the issues on election day, and avoiding voting for vacant offices. Sounds like a good idea. I've honestly been so annoyed by all this lately, I forgot there were other things to vote for. I need to do a search now and find out what the hell the other issues are. God knows the candidates haven't been talking about them.

there is no such thing as lesser evil, theirs evil and theirs not evil you cant have both

so if you have 2 people to vote for 1 person sells crack and steals and the other person is a murderer. do you vote on the crack dealer because hes not a murderer.


and you cant take away rights of the people because they dont want to vote for an evil corrupt man
