First Grow
First Log
Let's do this: DWC

So i've been growing for bout 2 weeks and have been keeping a personal log and taking lots of photos. Now that i'm confident the plants will survive for at least another 2 weeks I'll post my junk.

DAY 1:

This is my pretty "beta" setup.
Picked up these clones from a local dispensary, they were the last 6, bottom of the barrel style.

Just got a sweet 400watt HPS light in the mail, so I ran out and rigged up a pretty cheap DWC system.

I'm sure you see loads of problems with it, but they have been addressed and will be explained in future updates.

Sorry.. more updates tomorrow!

Also if I had a signature it would say:
Everything I post- ever- everywhere is a lie, I do not grow or condone the growing of marijuana or any other plant. This log is a work of fiction with images stolen from random places of the internet. :rastasmoke:

Well on to Day 3:

http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%203.JPG

Not too much improvement from Day 1. I decided to put some black plastic over the blue top to darken things up a bit.

Day 8 of veg is starting to look promising:

http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%208.JPG
Tons of growth, up to 6 inches here.

http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%208.2.JPG
I added white cardstock over the pots themselves to try to block some more light from getting in the res, I had an algae problem and drained/bleached everything. The roots were brownish so I added 3 caps of H2O2 and they whitened up beautifully.

Day 14:
http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2014.JPG
At 10 inches here, tons of growth. Looking good so far.

Day 15 (today):
http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2015.JPG
Even more growth! 11+ inches tall and plenty of branches.

I think i'm going to veg them another week or two and start flowering. My Ph meter broke :( I need to send my electrode back for a replacement, it will be at least 2 weeks before I see another.

Also I think i'm going to start LSTing soon..

They look very healthy. I'd give them another 2 weeks in veg and then flower for about 8 weeks. You should have a good crop.

More updates:

Growth exploded by day 19 to about 13-14 inches per plant, due to the conditions of the grow (6 plants crammed next to each other) I decided to start flowering.

Added to the Flowering room is 100watts of side lighting CFLs along with a 400watt HPS bulb.

Day 3 of flowering: The plants are looking good but the side-CFLs got a little close and singed some of the outer foliage. the lights have been adjusted accordingly.

I don't currently have any flowering pictures as I forgot to take shots in my 12 hour window.

I built my own carbon filter that carries 250CFM or so, it seems to work beautifully. Placed that in the flowering room.

Due to complications and bad planning I took clones on Day 2 of flowering from a plant I could not remove from DWC because the roots fused with the other plants. Here's some photos of the clones I took.

Day 2 Clones:
http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2021.3.JPG
It's my first time cloning so I expect no survivors. They're looking good, and i'm pretty sure I did it right. Time will tell.

http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2021.JPG
The clones are under ~300watts of CFLs which I plan to use for vegging in my home-made ghetto reflector.

Question: Tomorrow is Day 4 of Flowering, should I top the plants?

also: to point out why i've kind of gone crazy with the CFLs.. the 2700Ks are 96 cents here at my local Wally World. 100 watt equiv. (26 "true" watts)

the 6500ks aren't much more

hehe good old ebay :D.

I think next grow I'm going to go the 5gallon bucket route like you. this 20gal res is kind of crazy for 6 plants :wtf:, as I'm finding out now.

I couldn't find my camera during the daytime today, more pics when I get around to it

thanks for visiting my grow everyone

AWSOME someone else uses car window light reflectors like me. They have excellent heat diffusion, I use them for my DIY reflector hoods.
Those are sweet looking. Nice and compact, excellent internode development.
BTW check out the last page of my log to see my CFL DIY setup 248W/18K Lumens.

If your mechanically inclined then I'll tell you this....
If you carefully W/plyers screw off the metal screw cap on the bulb, you'll find that 2 wires stick out about an inch. They connect to the ballast and can be wired directly. also I'll note that although there is a positive and negative wire, It doesn't really matter which way you do it. Just be sure to get wire caps for all your connections.

Updates:

Day 8 of Flowering:
http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2025.3.JPG
Plants nearly 2 feet tall now, not much to see yet.

http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2025.JPG
There are a few leaves which look like they might be stressed under the heat, max temp below the canopy reads 85 Fahrenheit havent got a reading on top.

http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2025.2.JPG
Added 14k Lumens worth of CFLs to fill in some light gaps. 70,000 total including the HPS

Finally to the list of additions comes:
http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2025.4.JPG
This ~10lb home-made carbon filter with a 250CFM inline duct fan. I accidentally bought the wrong reducer + some other setbacks but in the end it works beautifully, you can't smell a thing (even though it's not too incredibly stinky yet)

Also parts of the crop seem to have a little bug damage, I reluctantly sprayed the suspect parts even though i've started flowering.

Well nothing else interesting yet. more updates as they come!

Make sure you have great ventilation....thats mucho growth in a small area....dont want bud rot.

macro

arg youre right, ventilation is a huge problem right now. I have a vent that goes into the side yard in that room, but it's currently blocked by a reflector.

my plans are to build an exhaust fan hooked up to my Carbon Filter and an intake fan coming directly from the vent (with dryer hose)

both powered by 6" inline duct fans
I just need to get around to doing it..

OVER 2 FEET TALL NOW!
It's amazing, one of the plant's shoots from the bottom of the plant has shot through the canopy. it's like they're on steroids, they went from 3" stressed out clones to 50" monsters in under 1 month so far..

i'll take some more pictures of the development

Big Update:
Day 29 Grow
Day 12 Flower

Today I'm going to reveal more about my grow room, and a good photo of a soon-to-be flower under HPS.

Click it to see it in full size.

Here's my 2 5x5 plastic seperated grow room. The flower room has a vent with the exhaust scrubbed through carbon
http://www.ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day 29.5.JPG

I'll keep my focus in the flower room for now
http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2029.4.JPG

Plants are nearly 3ft tall now on Day 12 Flower
http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2029.6.JPG

Shot of the roots
http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2029.2.JPG

Lots of growth, underside is a little underlit though.. i'm still not sure how to remedy this.
http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2029.JPG

Condensation is on the res, (humidity problem maybe?) Somehow without any cooling system the water in the res stays below 75 whereas the room crawls as high as 86

Thanks for checkin out my log

IT'S MY PLANTS 1 MONTH ANNIVERSARY
how sweet.

Day 31 Grow
Day 14 Flower

Looks like I updated too soon, Day 14 Flower is where the money is
I added some Dr Hornsby's Big Bud yesterday, hope it really works well

I noticed my air stones were CLOGGED TO HELL so i unclogged them.. may explain for the growth slowing in the past 2 days.

All the buds look like this right now
http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2031.2.JPG
Very nice! :D

Decided to beef up the airflow a little bit. I'm going to monitor the climate for the next hour or so to see how it normalizes with this fan on high. (connected to the vent)
http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2031.3.JPG

Lots of light = lots of heat :(
http://ilkt.com/celicasupra/Day%2031.4.JPG
Getting a little cramped in there.
Soo my intake fan got unplugged and my heat spiked to 90o

Clones aren't being very interesting.. now 2 weeks old and rooting very very slowly.

If I were you I would get some Clamp lights put a Y-connector with 2-27watt CFLS pointing up from the ground to get the underside of the leaves, and your gold. Put the lights in the Plants Shadows. So you know there will be optimum light. >_< Hope this helped. Looks Awesome as well. Later

yeah it does look kind of dark in the front, really lights on the underside of the leaves works well?

Why not? Maybe not 27watts, but 12W or whatever the lower numbers are..you should be fine.

Its a photosynthesizing plant, why wouldn't it like more light? Your trying to get light through that sucker to get it to its "optimum potency?" lol right? So do exactly that, as if you were trying to mimic (Sun)"Sunlight", and thats exactly what indoor growing is about, trying to mimic "Mother Nature" (Indoors). Well I am really high, and hope this is making somewhat of sense. Hope it helped as well.

I just tried searching if Light's on the underside would have any affect on the plant.
I would just make sure that they are even on both sides, and pointing directly up, so that the plant doesn't want to start growing down. Some leaves may reach for the light, don't worry.

Well I've had some side lighting on the plants and they dont seem to be going for it necessarily, they still have that big 400Watt HPS to shoot for, along with 200 other watts of CFLs on the canopy.

One plant decided to play superman and SHOOT through the canopy, too close to the HPS bulb and it looks like she's pretty stressed.

I used my solar powered AA battery charger(light meter0 and found it was right in the 160ma battery charging range, so i lowered it to about 80ma

GROW DAY 60
FLOWER DAY 43

Here's where it starts to get really 56k unfriendly.

All right guys, this is starting to get super serial.

Check out these pics, I checked the trichomes under a 60x radioshack microscope and they looked mostly cloudy/amber

but then again.. they could have been clear..ish. i'm not sure, it's my first grow.

Based on what I saw under the microscope I'm scheduled to flush this upcoming Wednesday and harvest the Wednesday afterward.

I would love to get a second or third.. or fourth opinion. :D I know it's hard for you to tell from these pics but anything you have to say would help.
THANKS!

Looks like a good log problem with 56k is the sh*t service ISP's provide with it your lucky if you actually get a reall bandwidth of 32K so untill you get the big pipe pic pages will always be hell to load. Just roll a spliff while your waiting.

You were talking about get more under light. You could try changing that black plastic you use to mylar & have the white reflective side facing up. Seems to reflect well in my NFT system.
