Been working on my grow box. spent over $200 the otherday on a cab and light. been workin on ventilation.

I have roughly a 4' square area 8 am growing in. its acually 3.36' squared.

I have 8 compact spirals in a homemade hood. these are 23 watt bulbs that produce 1,600 lumens each. So they state anyways. This is a total of 16,000 lumens being produced. Not including my side lighting. Which are 17 watt floros that have a 75 watt equivalent. Not to sure on how many lumens there produce. also have 2 ultra thin floros T4s which area only 8 watts each on the front and back. I am estimating that I have roughly 20,000 lumens total but 16,000 lumens above the plants. I amworried about the heat from the compacts. Plants look go but not as good as before so was wondering. how far away bcan these lights be from the tops. there is quite a bit of heat produced and at a stedy 80 degrees. irect fan on plants because of the lack of a moving fan. I figured I have supplied roughly 4670 lumens per square foot. Soca these lights be held higher above the plants without effect. I know that light deminishes at distances.

another thing is roughly 5,000 lumens over kill. I have ever angle covered in the box.
I will post pics. let me know what you think and how far away I can keeps the lights from the plants without dropping below 2,500 lumens.

pics posted later not letting me upload from my phone.

yeah cfls are hot,
you generally want to keep cfls about 3-6" away
5000lumens are not overkill, if you were using a hps you will get more than 5000lumens

ok good. but now for flowering will this be sufucent? I have room for more lights but I currently have.

8 compact floros 23 watts each. 100watts equivelent. 16000 lumens each

4 tubes T8 24in 17 watts 75 watt equivelent unknown lumens. 34000k I think.

2 15in 8 watt tubes high output inknown equivelent and spectrum.

total of:
268 watts : quivelent around 1200 to 1300 watts.

and an estimated around 20000 lumens. or what was previously stated. somewhere around there.

will this work for flowering as well as veg. I know that 64000k is better for veg and 27000k is better for flowering red and blue thing.

just trying to make sure that what I have can grow the whole deal so I don't have to change bulbs and shit. rather have more automation then work.

If you want quality results you should apply quality effort. How hard
if it to change bulbs? I move my fixtures and change bulbs as circumstances dictate. To keep my grow area inconspicuous I move
the plants up and down rather than the fixtures.
I think their appearance my be due to the increased temps, since you have increased the lighting. You need to figure out a good ventilation system to help this. That will also help if you go to HID lighting which is much hotter but much more advantageous for flowering

If you want more light for flowering (recommended) when you change your CFL's to a different spectrum why not get a higher wattage? That is if you can get better ventilation.
