hey ive been smoking weed for about 2-3 years and cigs also for about a year and a half . The past few months ive been getting this breathing problem everytime i smoke weed , my lungs feel really tight and i get this feeling that im not gettign enough air. I used to be able to smoke without any problems ,then it happened one day when i took a bong rip , it wasnt so bad so i ignored it but after that it would happen after the 3rd bowl or so. So i stoped smoking bong and only joints becuase i realized my lungs were fine if i smoked joints. After a while it happened with joints too , but the strange thing was it would only last while i was high. Now it even happens with cigs , i whent to the doctor to get my lungs checked out ( this was at the time where it happened after smoking bong) and he said my lungs are fine just my capacity is a little under average. I dont know what to do becuase i cant enjoy being high anymore ,becuase as soon as i even take the first hit i notice i cant breath so well , at first i thought it was just in my head but i cant ignore it. I feel the condition getting worse and now it happens sometimes even when i dont smoke ... im really sad and confused and its not asthma becuase i whent to the doctor and he said i didnt have it. Its such a terrible feeling but i cant stop smoking , what could this be? The strange thing is it lasts only when im high , when im drunk i can smoke and i dont notice it at all. But it confuses me more now that it also happens when i smoke cigs , but not so bad and if i dont think about it i dont notice it. It be so great if any of you could give me advice on what problem i have.

I have a similar lung problem and my Dr told me to stay away from smoking and just eat it if I must partake in said activity . I think you can up the capacity by working out and making an efor to breath in through your nose until you can't get anymore air then breath out your mouth. Our lungs are muscles so if we work them out a bit we can achieve better breathing. I've been doing tai chi and Buddhist meditation for five years now and I know that personally helps me, you should look into that hell even tantric sex is supposed to be good your you.....lung that is.
Good luck mate a please be careful make sure to keep us posted, Brit!

I had the exact same problems. I've been working out more and I quit smoking cigarettes, and the problem is much less noticeable. I still smoke many times a day.

I would agree with what the other poster said about quitting cigarettes. I have smoked them off and mostly on for many years along with herb. When I have quit I was struck by the negative impact they have on breathing. Weed seems more irritating if smoking cigs. Plus your doc says you have reduced capacity- smoking can only hurt this. :(
The fact that your symptoms go away when drinking is diagnostic I think. Hints that anxiety is the root cause- a primary symptom of anxiety is perceived shortness of breath in the absence of lung disease. THC can trigger anxiety and alcohol- a central nervous system depressant can relieve it.

i smoke herb exclusively. when i used to go to the bars last year i would smoke alot, but i didnt smoke cigs regularly, although i know that quitting can sometimes be easier said than done.
how physically active are you? go to your local health food store and buy eucaliptis oil, mix the right ammount with a bottle of water. go to your local gym and hit the sauna! yeah kick it and squirt some of that onto the rocks. this will help your lungs and overall health for sure. some people cant take them though.
do push ups go swimming and running. lift weights play some raquet ball whatever you know. eat garlic, pineapple, broccoli with plenty of red meat. this should help smoke some weed get high peace:stoned:

When I ran track my chest got bigger by two inches just because my lungs expanded. I knew because I didn't gain any weight. Also playing the didjeridoo has increased my lung capacity, and singing on stage with no mike. My lungs probably have almost twice the capacity as my smoking buddy.
Definitely quit cigarettes. Try and take more frequent, but smaller hits. I used to take huge hits because I thought I had to. Now, I may inhale some smoke, then finish the inhale with fresh air, to push the smoke down into my lungs. I get just as high, and it's not as harsh.
You can also bake, make Green Dragon or hash oil, or vaporize if you don't want to smoke.
Poor posture is also bad for your lungs, and all your organs because it squishes them. Sitting up straight and breathing deep should help.
Try this breathing exercise. Breathe in slowly, til your lungs are completely full, then hold it in, then inhale a little bit more (you will be able to) and still hold it in. Exhale slowly. This should help you slowly increase your lung capacity.
