Hi, I am a first time grower, and orignally bought a 150watt HPS Light. I purchased the "security light" from HomeDepot and it was way to hot for my little grow room. I recently bought 2 walmart 12" inch flouros and a single 18" "grow light"-- it is also a flouro .. but has a deeper, cooler blue tone ... The plants have been growing good on the flouros for about a week, the first plant is very stout( 1.5"), but has about inch and a half main leaves, and 5 more sets starting. I know i need more light but it has to be flouros. My Question is can I use my 150 watt HPS ballast, and plug in one of those 65watt (500 output) flouro bulbs?

The room is small cabinete : 24x32x17

Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks :D

I don't know first hand what would happen, but it could NOT be good. Try this, they are a bit expensive, but they are 100% PAR and generate almost no heat HydroFarm CFL (http://www.wormsway.com/detail.asp?sku=CFSW110) also it produces 7800 lumens. I have one and it is awesome. :)

nooo!!

each ballast is made for that special light, if you dont follow that youll cause a fire... if you want to use your HPS the way of the light was made use it, get a fan aiming the light all the time, if the heat passes 30°C forget it..

ooo thats niice, its a lil spendy though. I looked around for a while, but could not find the dimensions, mind posting them? Untill I sell the HPS-and buy that cfl, When will the light I have now stop being enough? The plants seem to like it a lot right now. Also should i put "grow bulbs" in the 2 12" flouros, right now they are just the ghetto, inside your pantry, bulbs?

Thanks for your help everyone, probably prevented a pretty bad fire ;)
