Somebody asked users to post circumstances when a virus is detected. I'm using Firefox, I hadn't "logged-in", I clicked on "Today's Posts", I tried to click on the poll " Go to first new post Poll: do you use cologne/perfume/body sprays, etc?" but it wouldn't open and just defaulted to that error page, my AVG detected a trojan so I "healed" it.

you can go to microsoft.com and download their Malicious Software Removal Tool for free. its an excellent program to get rid of viruses, and there is no charge.

First thing's first: whipe all you cookies, temporary internet files, and history in your internet options.

Are you getting this malware with a full-system can with your AVG, or are you just letting it catch them automatically with pop-up windows. Because the auto-protect will only get these viruses as they attack, it won't catch the ones not doing anything which can later replicate themselves; or in the case of your trojan, import more malware.
Do a full-system scan, preferrably in safemode (restart your computer and hit F8 continuously until a screen comes up with the safemode option).

Go to TrendSecure | HouseCallā?¢ Free Scan (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/housecall) and use their free online scan. TrendMicro is undoubtedly the best anti-malware company going and their program "PC Cillin" is unmatched. If you're going to invest in anything, make that the one.

I also recommend you download a free anti-malware program called "A-Squared". It's excellent and doesn't have an auto-protect feature, so it won't conflict or take up resources; just a scan-only.

Spybot is good for catching the odd thing that others miss, it doesn't hurt to have it, but keep the tea-timer off as it really isn't worth the resource gobbling. Overal, don't depend on it for squat.

Macafee is a lousy program frankly. I know it'll catch a lot of generic crap (ie spyware cookies) which impresses people, but it won't get anything with a little programming ingenuity.

Norton antivirus.... SUCKS. Well, it's decent at getting trojans (only decent), but that's it. It's scanning method is pretty primitive.

And remember above all: Anybody who says "This is the only program you'll ever need" doesn't know what they're talking about. No one program gets everything, and having only one program will give you insufficient protection.

The last few days I've had pop-up ads from here. I've never had them before, so I know its from here. I have firefox and Adblock plus so I had to set a filter for the pop-ups. So far it seems to be working. I really hate pop-up ads!! I'm very careful about spyware and what not. I run scans daily.

I'm getting them, too, but I also get them from several other sites. I hate them, but when I run the Spybot and anti-adware preventatives, it gets rid of them temporarily, and then they're back. I'm starting to get resigned to them.

if you are familiar with using your registry you can go to HijackThis.Com (http://www.hijackthis.com) and download their free tool that will allow you to read the registry files and see where the popups are coming from. from there you can delete it. works everytime for me, but be warned, changing or deleting the wrong files in your registry can screw up your computer. If you dont know what your doing dont mess with it.

I can testify to the pop-up problem as well...

I don't usually have any pop-up problems but sure enough, they have been popping up since yesterday whenever I navigate to this site.

Weak! If Sundance (I'm assuming they/he/she made this decision) needs some money for the site, (I understand maintaining a website requires money and time) they should start selling t-shirts/beanies/hoodies....

Personally, I HATE any website that has pop-ups. They just make me feel like I shouldn't trust whatever website that I'm at...ad banners on the page is one thing, but pop-ups are another.

Ive never had any trouble with pop-upd on this site, then again with opera I never see a pop-up. I also downloaded some file that stops those annoying ads on websites(shoot the alien...win an ipod) from loading.

Because there's nothing we can really say atm.

Clearly the ads are a result of our sponsors here at the site. As we've mentioned before, the site is undergoing a face lift right now, meaning there are bound to be things seeming different, albeit an annoyance to some of you. It's bigger and better than ever, so rejoice eh?

Whichever popup is set to pop up upon first entering the site carries a trojan. I am on my brothers computer and he has windows live onecare, and every time I come to this site, it picks up another trojan immediately. Thankfully his computer takes care of it every time, but other computers that I use dont.

I am curious... has this issue been presented to the Cannabis.com moderators or webmasters yet? If so... why does this problem persist? If not.. will something be done about it?

This is by far my favorite website, and pretty much the only reason I go on the internet. I actually spend three hours a day at the damned library to post on these forums, and I know alot of people who are just as dedicated if not much more so.

It almost feels like the whole experience is cheapened when I cant even log in because the popup blocker is so busy trying to block popups, that I cant even enter text into the god damn log in box. Not to mention the fact that its laced with a trojan and god only knows what else.

Well, Im sorry if this seems like a complaint... that was not my purpose. I simply enjoy this website too much to see it destroyed by the same downfalls that have preceded the destruction of other popular websites. Popups laced with trojans and viruses are a sure way to lose good members, and prevent the onset of more good ones.

Thanks for listening.. to all the mods here I think you guys are doing an excellent job.

Peace and delta9 grease.
