TEHRAN, Oct. 8 ?? For the second time in less than a year, university students in Tehran mounted a protest against a speech by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. More than 100 students clashed with supporters of Mr. Ahmadinejad on Monday at Tehran University, where he was speaking to mark the beginning of the school year.

Mr. Ahmadinejad angered students and professors at the university after his election in 2005 when he appointed a cleric as the university??s president. Many liberal professors and students have been dismissed since then, and activists have come under increasing pressure.

??Death to the dictator,? and ??Free jailed students,? shouted the protesters, referring to three student activists who have been jailed since May, said witnesses who asked not to be identified out of fear of repercussions.

??It is more than four months since three students have been jailed and are under the worst kind of physical and psychological torture,? said Mohsen Seyedin, a student activist, according to the Web site for Amir Kabir University in Tehran. Pro-democracy students there had protested during a speech by the president in December. ??Mr. Ahmadinejad must answer why they should pay this price for criticizing him,? he said.

Students at Tehran University said only the most ardent supporters of the president were allowed to be present for the speech.

How do you figure he got a warmer welcome in the States? The audience laughed at him and boo'd him, the university president grilled him to the 3rd degree. I never thought I'd see a day when a challenge to intellectual debate was considered consorting with the enemy.

lol, the ironic thing here is that the university students protesting against him in Iran are undoubtedly considered their equivilant of "filthy liberals":D

Lol, I was thinking the same thing Gandalf. It looks to me to be the same as people demanding impeachment of bush, and to stop the torture so many support.

I was watching a documentary and its quite simple the younger people like to be rebellious just like in the states. Nothing uncommon.

Yeah, that'll be funny, especially when, China, Russia, and India - all nuclear powers who are against any action against Iran retaliate. Oh hahah, hilarious!

Iran's President is simply a really cheesy version of George W. Bush.

Imagine it like this:

You have 70s porno with all the bush and the huge mustaches (Iran)
Than you have the modern porno with hot chicks and no bush (USA)

Thats what the Presidency difference is between Iran and the USA.
