I posted a thread with a recent video of Mitt Romney ignoring a dying mans question about medical marijuana, and as it angered myself, I knew it would anger others on this site as well, over what this politician did, (or didn't do). I understand the mods are trying to keep this place clean and an enjoyable environment for everyone, and in general do an excellent job at that, however we are all human and make mistakes from time to time, and I believe this was one of those times.
People should always try their best to respond intelligently, rather than post mindless profanity with no value for discussion, but at the same time if you are a mod, you should be smart enough to realize that certain topics will naturally anger a lot of people. So rather than simply closing the thread and keeping this important news piece from circulating, why not just delete the mindless comments, warn them to not do again and post a warning to others to think before they post? Why go to such an extreme when you yourself should see the importance of that video and allow it to stay, with a few edits in the responses following the post?
I don't like questioning the action of a mod, especially for a forum that typically does a great job at weeding out the junk that should be removed, but seriously, this is important news and closing the thread was not needed at all. All it needed was some minor editing in the responses, but the content of the thread was never a problem! It really just seems like a bit of laziness on the mods side to avoid monitoring the thread. If you don't like doing that work, by all means give me mod privileges and I will do that for you. But in the mean time, deleting threads of severe importance regarding the future of this country simply because a few posters couldn't handle themselves, is just plain stupid!
So I'd like to make a suggestion to continue to delete the junk that needs to be deleted, but don't delete something simply because it makes people think, and possibly get angered and want to use mindless profanity towards a politician. Is that not a bad idea?
