I've been growing outdoor weed for a few years now, and am never happy with my trimming and manicuring. Anyone know where I can look online for a good guide with pictures for this? Even a few tips from seasoned vetrans would be appreciated. Thanks, all!

hold the buds upside down, and trim before you dry them

K. Fan leaves, bye-bye. I guess I'm asking how close do you trim. I don't want ratty looking weed, but I worried about overtrimming and losing too much weight off the yeild.

Fan leaves go first. You can cut or even yank them off.
Next, the 'sugar leaves'- the smaller leaves coming out of each bud. These you have to snip off- more like SHEARING your bud.
Shear the sugar leaves as close as you can without cutting off the hairs that will make your bud much more attractive when it is dried. You don't have to remove the bud leaves entirely, because any decent strain WILL have resin production on these leaves, concentrated at the base of the leaf- you will mostly be cutting the TIPS of the sugar leaves off.
Then hang the plants to dry.
When they are completely dry, and before starting the cure, you can go over them again and snip any scraggly stuff sticking out.
