I would probably get down on the floor and wait. If anything, 911 has already been called. Close the blinds, lock all the windows, etc...

This is what I get for moving back to the city....at least I've got my own gun if whoever decides to jump the gate and come into our complex....ugh

unless you know the exact apartment it came from or are that worried, i wouldn't call the cops...
just stay away from the windows and defiantely don't go standing outside to see what's going on lol...
i hear gun shots all the time around here.... most of the time it's just people shooting 'em off cuz they're drunk or it's new years or w/e... only once (out of thousands) has anyone been shot.. and the cops were in here in a matter of minutes...

Slip, drunk shooting and new years' shooting is an institution in the south....if I was still in Arkansas I wouldn't give it a second thought...but something about being in Phoenix makes me slightly uneasy...and I've never been the shrinking violet type of chick, hell my first date with my fiance was at the gun range if that explains anything...

well refer to what i said before.... unless you know the exact apartment (So you can tell the cops which one) or are that worried about it, just stay outta direct range... (if something was going down and they saw you, you could become a potential witness, and a victim following that)
unless you know the apartment all the cops can really do is come out and make noise to let their prescense known.... it's not liek they can or will kick-door on every apartment til they find the right one...

unless your phone is corded next to a window, why wouldn't you call 911?

I lived in Phoenix in Glendale as a kid, and I wasn't allowed to have my bed by the window because almost every other night there were gun shots in the parking lot outside. Just don't worry about it. Stay away from the window, lock your doors, and mind your own business. It stinks that the smart thing to do is hide, but odds are someone else has already called and the police are on their way.

But if nobody calls 911 because they think "the other" neighbor will do it, then what?
I ask in seriousness because I've never lived in a place where gun shots or sirens are commonplace.:wtf:

Shit Tootsie, me either (the country doesn't count, we were usually shooting at innocent woodland creatures and whatnot-not people)...but apparently my nice new apartment complex is right next to the 'hood or something....I knew there was a reason why they gave me an apartment with a waterfall....

i suppose you could do what i've always done - sit down outside the front door, light up a joint and wait to see what happens next. i'm slightly self-destructive and mildly curious so this course of action probably isn't for everyone, but it hasn't gotten me killed yet.

looks like im late but I say unless their shooting at you, or someone you know, or some kids then who cares, unless asked for help. Call the cops if it makes you feel better but more important take out the steel and get ready to send some lead if needed. And of coars common sense applies dont stick your head out and watch your exit/entry points and utilize cover. Right now it sounds like a war is goning on here but that is just casue I live next to the Balloon Fiesta and their blasting cannons and fireworks.

I have actualy done stupid shit like this, one time I saw a shoot out between to guys and they were laughing and spraying 9mm automatic fire all around eachother and all around us. They were stalking eachother and when they would find eachother one of em would take off running doging bullets and it would start off all over again. In the end no one was shot and the appartments were riddeled with holes, and those two dude were still laughing, we were about to start shooting too but the whole time we heard sirens like next door

I think the advice to do nothing is absurd. Even if officers simply come and make themselves visible, that might save other people from stray bullets or save someone in the immediate situation where there's a shooter.
I don't live in a place where we hear gunshots, either. But if I ever hear seven shots anyplace near me, I'm going to get low to the ground, away from windows, and call 911 just so a police presence might patrol more closely, if nothing else. The next day, I'd check out the Kevlar offerings at my nearest Wal-Mart and start looking into other addresses, too.

wtf? Your supposed to laugh when your shooting nerf gun bullets... not real ones. So one part of the guy was high do to the laughter but the other part was a gangster. Those mixed conclude to situations like these, laughing while try to "pop caps" in the other.

i think you'll find that walmart doesn't have much to offer. k-mart, however, has a wide assortment of kevlar casual wear and even some armored formal attire. also, this coming spring victoria's secret is coming out with a line of provocative ballistic nylon undergarments you might want to look into.

suppose it'd depend where you lived... i mean the cops have came out after reports of gunfire, they patrol around, knock on the doors to the closest vicinity the caller believed the shots came from, then they leave....
couple of times within a matter of hours or even minutes it starts again....
i guess becuase of my experiences here i've pretty much given up on doing anything about it or expecting the cops to...

Seems more than a little strange that you would consider needing help as urgent, then post on a forum and wait answers the first of which took 5 minutes to arrive. In any situation that may involve firearms and since you heard shots it was a reasonable assumption that a gun or guns were involved you really must learn to think and act a lot quicker than 5 minutes, why would anyone not immediately phone 911 in this situation ? Unless you had comlete body armour and were extremely profficient with your own weapon my advice would be call the police (which in the UK take on average about an hour or so to arrive) then lay low and hide. Better a live coward than dead hero.

LMAO @ "learn to think and act a lot quicker"
Please make no mistake, as I am no fool. I was not sitting here peeping out of the blinds and waiting for an online community to help me decide my fate. I simply wanted a few quick second opinions. Have a little common sense man!! If I felt my life was in danger I would not have been sitting here typing away, I would have been returning fire while alerting the authorities immediately. And yes, I am quite proficient with my weapon.

well I'll put the LOL in for you....As I sit here with my first spliff of the day, rereading this post I am cracking myself up!! I was high as hell and guess I just freaked out, not having heard "random" gunshots from people I don't know in about 10yrs or so...But I guess everything was fine and the people in the next complex over must have been bad shots or something since there were no EMS dispatched and nothing was on the news this morning...I guess I've just got to get used to living in the city again (and IDK what kingk is talking about...phoenix is the 5th largest city in the US).

Don't panic, they aren't shooting at you, obviously. You CAN call 911 if you REALLY want to, but it's probably not worth it. But then again, it's probably alot easier for me to say not to panic just because of a gunshot, I used to live in a pretty rough area. As long as they aren't shooting at you, don't worry about it.

I'd like to apologize. That is bad advice to not say anything. I don't know what I was thinking. Except, of course, when the cops are crooked and tell people who called. But usually that is not the case
