i have 150w hps i have it about 25 inches above the plants im running the light in a 18/6 will a hps work for veg groth or is it only for flowering i hope to have pic up if i can find my camera

It will work just not as well as a Metal Halide HID. They have different spectrums and will therefore affect the plant in different ways.

Distance away should be such that you can hold your hand under the light with NO discomfort.

Personally I'd switch to flouros. Sex determination is influenced a bit by light spectrum, as is node spacing. Blue light is better on both counts.

i do have two floresent they are 18 inches one is based on the blue spectum and the other is heavy on the red i allso have 2 reglur engery savers that put off about 100w a piece

are you saying the style of the light red or blue will determand the sex of the plant

never really tried blue and red for veg?

i have a 250watt envirolite and i have it an inch away from my plants
25 inches sounds to far away

in that case i would use flo's too. they do a good job for seedlings. as far as a 150w hps when the plants are a little bigger the can be as close as 4" with a fan on them. node spacing is deffinately an issue, blue will keep them closer in veg.
