Isn't that one of the benefits of a bong? It dosn't burn your throat man, and if it is, then your hitting it like a champ. Keep it up.

I would say the less water you have the less dense the smoke will be meaning a smoother hit. Be careful putting ice in if u don't have ice pegs. I broke the downstem one time. i pour ice water in mine through a funnel so the cubes don't fall and break the stem again.
Just hit the bong all day long like cheech and chong:smokebong:
could it not be the pot thats causing the burn?

i use ice in mine cause i have a badass ice chamber,
but you can also use steamy hot water, and the hot vapors can actually sooth lungs.(and i have done it too). the only thing i dont like about it is it makes me drool in the bong more cause the hot water

Its the smoke that is burning your throat, not the bong. Even though the bong is one of the smoothest ways to smoke, it can still damage your throat as I know all too well.

Does it burn when you blow out the smoke? Try breathing it out through your nose.

some people say the same thing about multiple chamber pieces too. I got talked me into buying a really expensive triple chanber bubbler, under the pretense that it would be the smoothest thing I had ever hit and I would never cough, no matter how hard I hit it. I've been smoking for almost 15 years and I knew this was bullshit, but when I told the guy at the bong store that I didn't believe him, he dropped the price a little, smoked a joint, and I ended up taking it home... It's defenitely the smoothest thing I've ever hit, but this thing will fuck you up if you hit it the wrong way.
Every bong is different. Try changing the pull out piece and/or converting it to glass on glass. Keeping it clean REALLY helps too.

I'd stay away from this - all the bongs I've seen usually come with a sticker on the bottom saying not to use it with hot water. If there wasn't the risk of the bong breaking or something (I'm not sure why no hot water) it'd probably be nice and soothing. As it is, try improvising an ice catcher or just taking smaller hits.

I find that if I use ice cold water the hits are harsher than if I use room temperature water. So it is true that hotter water does give smoother hits. Try some water at about 40C.

Also, too many stems/seeds can give you a harsh smoke.

I would recommend either a snow in the chamber or, (gasp) warmer-hot water. The reason for either should be self explanatory, the snowy slush will cool down the smoke as it filters, and the hot water chamber will release more steam and that sort, and will feel smoother, at least in my experience. Try those out and then see what else you can do buddy.

You stole my last avatar. :rasta:
that happens to me acouple times..i usually just milk it and let the smoke chill for a second then inhale. just dont inhale slow cause thats constant heat from the smoke on your throat..if you take a fast rip itll be straight

glad to see someone else try and it work
another thing when you put ice in the chamber you do get a smaller hit as the ice takes up volume. thats 1 reason y i use ice
i have never heard of a bong not being able to have hot water in it.
plastic bong could possibly leak but the sealant they use at the base im sure can handle 20 min of 100deg water. but if you boil a plastic bong you can melt it pretty quick lol
glass on the other hand if it breaks because of hot water, either the base was already weak from setting it down so hard or it was already cracked and the heat and setting it down finally made it leak

sigh ok, the only real way you can get a bong to not burn your throat, is experience. bottom line, your throat will toughen up eventually.
the hot water, however does help, and to anyone here who is currently enjoying it, try using tea, its even better!
now about the whole "cant use hto water in bongs" argument, ive said this before, but ill say it again here.
two types of glass, borosilicate and soft glass. soft glass(also known as "magic glass" or "festival glass" or "spring glass") are the bongs you see, that are usually opaque, these are not put in a kiln after they are made, so they are sensitive to tempurature changes (such as hot water), and can crack from stresses in the glass.
borosilicate, or pyrex, is what roors and JBDs and whatnot are made out of, its usually clear (but you cobalt and green colored glass is becoming popular). these are put in a kiln after construction, so hot water alone will not cause a crack usually( it will if it was poorly made). however if you say, put in hto water and dipped the part with the water in a bucket of ice water, it WILL crack.
so some bongs are kosher for hot water, others are not. now heres some pics, the first one is soft glass, the second is pyrex.

hmm...so if it's better to use warm water, does that mean using ice doesn't help? I like the way it cools down the smoke, but never tried the opposite and using warm water with no ice...interesting...
