Another nice thread that could be very helpful and informative.
After how much time did your new employer spring their first "random" drug test on you.
I do mean "random", not post-accident or otherwise.

I've been at my job since August of last year (so over a year now) and have not gotten a random drug test so far. My employer said they would only random drug test if they needed to. I guess that means that if I happen to come to work high or they suspect something based on my lack of work, they will drug test me. But so far so good, no random tests.
I worked at a job for about 5 months and every Monday they would random test one person. Literally picked out of a hat. So there were about 20 people with whom I worked with. 5% chance. Never got picked once.

I worked for a huge company with over 30,000 employees and as I was waiting for the shuttle to take me to the clinic for an illness, a co-worker came and sat beside me. I looked at his employee badge number and knew he was new, so I asked if he was going for his pre-employment drug test. He said no, that he had been tested for that 4 days prior and was pulled for a random. FOUR DAYS, out of 30,000 people. I was never tested after my pre-employment. It really is random. DOT.
Oh, and by the way... random because they "feel they need to" isn't random. That would be reasonable cause.

I worked for a company for about 5 years. The 4th year I was there they sent everyone a form to sign, consenting to random tests. They implemented the program about 2 months after they passed out the forms.
There were about 200 employees and only one person (a driver) was tested within a couple of months after they implemented this program. I know people that still work there and haven't heard of anyone else being tested.
It seems like they did that, primarily, as a threat.

If it is truly random, the time after employment until testing is irrelevant.
