Growing up we used to always drink tap water..but now I only use tap water for showers, watering the lawn or for cooking when things are boiled...but for drinking..I always drink bottled water with Aquafina being my favorite..
This is thread #6 that I have made today on make-a-thread today..am I too excessive? Maybe..but who cares..I will come back later and make a few more..

Ha. I just stick my head under the faucet and get a drink if im thirsty. I wish I could find the Robin Williams stand up about bottled water. It states my feelings perfect.

Tap water.
For all the bitching about my town property tax and the few benefits I personally reap from it, having no kids in the school system, I can't complain about city water. It's mm mm good.

Tap water's fine for me - it's all the same in the end. Didn't they bust a company for filling their bottles with regular water a few years back? I wish I'd been old enough to jump on the bandwagon and buy stocks in bottled water back in the day, it's pure profit for the companies making it.

Tap water does me fine, the thing about natural spring bottled water is that its been in the ground for thousands of years, why does it have a use by date as soon as its in a bottle ?

bottled water has more bacteria than tap water. i filter my tap water. plus you have to haul bottled water from the bottling company, to the stores, to your home. think about all the emissions.
mikeyjo
10-02-2007, 01:07 AM
Emissions and whatever chems are leaching in from the plastic used to bottle it. Some places do have really bad municipal water though. WHere I am, you get a bad taste around this time of year from lake bacteria because of warmer than usual summers. Makes coffee taste a little weird but nothing dangerous. So they say :/.
Good Idea to run taps for a few minutes though to flush out contaminants and lead and crap that may have built up.

we get mt. shasta spring water in 5 gal. jugs here in chico. ive been all over the country and i must say there is some absolutely atrocious tap water in many places!
the tap here is pretty good. most people could stand the taste if they were just drinking it but most people either buy spring, botted water or just filter it thei self

Tap water tastes like crap in Irvine. It's pretty good here at UCSD though. If I have a bottle nearby then bottled, if I don't then tap.

Theres quite a bit of iron in the water around here, it's ok for showering and laundry but almost everyone in this city has a filter for drinking water. I'll drink it out of the tap after it runs through the filtration pitcher.

Tap, on a hot day after being out in the sun tap water is the best...but straight from the hose is way better. Mind you that the water around here is very clean and not polluted.

I drink filtered tap water. Comes through our refrigerator door. I prefer the taste of filtered tap over bottled any day. I've frequently read that municipal water is safer anyway since city water supplies in the United States and Canada are tested and closely monitored, whereas there's no regulation or standard monitoring or testing of bottled water. I have some old wide-mouth Aquafina bottles that I wash and re-use, filling them with filtered tap water so I have something to carry it in. I don't go in for buying bottled water, just like I don't buy the whole Starbucks coffee phenomenon, either. If I'm going to buy a drink, I want it to have carbonation (or at least 70 proof!).

I don't like buying bottles of water when i have a tap.. Or there are drinking fountains about. I can afford too, don't get me wrong, just i don't feel the need. Both are alrite. You never miss your water, til your well runs dry.

Tap through a Brita pitcher. Absolutely no better water on Earth.
My Uncle was a merchant sea man and I remember him telling us about bad tap water..he said that there are two main Ports in the world where ships refuse to fill their tanks with the local tap water..The Sewers canal and Adelaide South Australia ...I live in Adelaide so yep you guessed it Bottled water for me and my family.

Well, as water professional I can say for sure there many many cities in the US that have water you should not drink. This has nothing to do with taste as most things that actually pose a threat you cannot taste or smell.
In addition, two terms are typically used to state the accepted levels of contaminants in water: MCL (Maximum Contaminant Level) and MCLG (Maximum Contaminant Level Goal). These terms differ greatly. The MCL is what the cities and counties across the US are allowed to get away with. This means that things like cost, practicality, financial feasibility etc are considered when it's time to spend money on water purification leaving your health a little ways down the list, especially when sometimes big business lobbying becomes a part of the game.
The MCLG is the level of contaminant at which some peoples health will be affected. This is the number you watch if you are concerned about your health but NOT the number that cities and counties have to adhere to.
Therefore, if you care enough, you need to find out what's in your city's water, or you'll not know your own situation. Or save the hassle and buy an inexpensive Reverse Osmosis purifier.
A couple of myths:
1. I boil my water so I'm safe.
Many many contaminants do not evaporate like water, especially the really bad ones. So all you are doing is increasing the percentage of contaminants in relation to the amount of pure water which is evaporating.
2. Britta filters work great.
Britta and similar faucet and fridge filters are 99% carbon based. This means they will remove most things that smell or taste bad. But, with the exception of some chemicals they do little or nothing to remove many contaminants that are bad for you.
By the way, I'm not a health freak and I got my share of bad eating habits, just figured I'd share the facts.
Bluster that was a cool post:postgood: The same bullshit is going on in Australia .We in south Australia were told this year that recycled sewerage was being pumped into our reservoirs to top them up. mmmm I feel like a glass of water..........NOT!.

growing up i had well water for tap that was delicious. it came from a pure underground spring. now i only drink bottled spring water (not dasani or aquafina because those are filtered tap water not spring water and still taste weird.) i cant stand that chlorinated fluorinated crap city water. makes me think im drinking out of a swimming pool.

I think bottled water tastes better and will always buy some if im out in town. But if im in my house and just want a drink of water, tap is fine. I live in a part of England where the water isnt 'hard' so its all good.

Just FYI: Water hardness has nothing to do with it being unhealthy, it simply represents how much Calcium/Magnesium is in your water and in most regards is actually good for you.
