View Full Version : Should people who are of age that support the war enlist?

I find it facinating that there are still people out there that still believe that this quagmire of a war is justified. What is even more puzzleing to me is that people on this post vehemently defend this policy. I participated in a shameful war in southeast asia in the early 70s, saw the waste of life, the devastation, all of the cliches of the horrors of war. So I feel strongly about sending americans to war unless it is the last possible solution. Having said that, I believe that people that support this war should put thier beliefs where thier mouths are and enlist for combat or if a female the closest thing to combat instead of letting other people do thier fighting for them!;)

Amen...it is easy to support when your ass is sitting on the sidelines..if you support..get over there and kick some doors down and see how you feel then.

They should have a draft. The team that picks last, gets to pick first, in the second round.

Absolutely. There's a place for the people that want to kill and mame. Its Iraq. Be all that you can be.

Mean while maybe we can have a little more peace at home.

I agree completely. They sit there talking about how the war is justified, and how it's good for the country, and how they support it. However, most of them never would even think about doing it themselves.

This war should have never been put into action in the first place.

To perform or offer to perform a service of one's own free will.
Since the options are obviously left wing lop sided I'll decline from the vote.

Don't let the dems scare ya.....you won't be drafted for shit. By the way, an individual from the army called a few months back to see if my son wanted to re-inlist....I told him I'd pass the message but was wondering about if I could get in to kick some insurgent ass. Since I'm 45 I'm over their age limit.

I do have a question for the anti-war left though.....in case we do pull out and there is another terrorist attack here. Should all the tree huggers enlist in order to finish a job that they wanted to run from?:D

By the way, my SON did his time and I have a few friends that DID enlist and are over there right now so I think we can drop the finger pointing b.s.

Cheers to your son! I may not agree with the war but I respect anyone brave enough to fight in one.

And yeah, having someone tell you to enlist is kind of a dick move.

They attack the biggest targets cause it attracts the most attention. What would u think of the terrorist who attacks a trailer park? Would u be scared, cause i wouldn't. Why would u say something like that anyways?

Because blowing up a few rich people would be good for the economy. And its not like they're really contributing anything to society anyways. I don't think there were too many poor people in the twin towers.

I guess some of these freedoms you lost prevented that......IF we were to leave it would supply a nice quiet home to make future plans. "Keep em' on the run" sounds like a better plan.

so we're going to have hundreds of thousands of troops deployed in Iraq so we can 'be safe' until 1. gas is $5.69...2. we run out of young men and women in this country 3. until they nuke us

it will never ever ever end, unless we leave

I didn't answer the survey because the answers were questions.

I served in the US Coast Guard. I volunteered to go to Iraq. I never wanted to shoot people. I did not support the war at the time I volunteered, but the Coast Guard is doing security patrols for the big Navy ships to prevent suicide boat attack. I wanted to protect our Sailors and Marines.

Well, they didn't like me, because the military doesn't like independent thinkers. If you try and hide it, they can smell your independence. So they said, "We need radar techs, not radio techs." I volunteered to go the the radar school, but they said no.

I also volunteered to go help the victims of Katrina, and they said no.

I do not believe if you support the war, you should enlist, but if you are talking shit to anti-war protesters who are veterans, and family members of the fallen, yes, you should enlist if you are between 18 and 37.

Just because you are in the military, it doesn't mean that you support the war.

The war is a very complex issue, so I am just trying to stick to this one topic. I want this war to end, why and how is another story. It will take a complete essay to tell you why I believe that.

I can write whole essays on my beliefs on terrorism, fascism, false flag attacks, the Iraq war, the War on Terror, the War on Drugs, the War on Poverty, the left-right paradigm, The Bush's, The Clintons, and I refuse to reduce my thoughts to a few simple sound bytes.

You cannot talk about the war without talking about terrorism, and politics, and the role large corporations, bankers, and the military industrial complex has. These are all very complex issues on their own.

If get into a debate on an issue, so be it. If you want to bring up another issue, you have a right to do that, but know conversation is going to be convoluted.

1) Do ya think if we leave the area that the price of gas will drop or stay stable?
2) Run out of young men and women? This isn't WW2 where we lose 10,000 in a single battle.
3) Leave them a stable place to go about their business and the "nuke" thing could be a reality.

We're in the middle of a war with people that don't march under a flag or hold an allegiance to a certain country. Makes the issue all that more difficult to deal with.

How can you be at war with an Idea? The Idea is they fucking hate us and want us to leave. If we were to leave, they would have nothing to hate, so the violence would have to subside. Reasoning 1-A, try it.

Sorry, "reasoning 1-A" doesn't work with muslems that are taught almost birth to KILL ALL INFIDELS.....this includes *ANYBODY* that is not of their faith/religion. You can't reason with a zelot. They have no fear of death, because they have 72 virgins to look forward to when they martyr themselves.....case in point;
From a Corrections Officer.

Allah or the Lord Jesus Christ? ..A Bit Scary

This is very interesting and just a bit scary ..The Muslim religion is the
fastest growing religion per capita in the United States , especially in the
minority races!!!

Allah or The Lord Jesus Christ? ... By Rick Mathes

Last month I attended my annual training session that's required for
maintaining my state prison security clearance. During the training session
there was a presentation by three speakers representing the Roman Catholic,
Protestant and Muslim faiths, who explained each of their beliefs.

I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say. The
Imam gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam, complete with a
video. After the presentations, time was provided for questions and
answers.

When it was my turn, I directed my question to the Imam and asked: "Please,
correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that most Imams and clerics of
Islam have declared a holy jihad [Holy war] against the infidels of the
world and, that by killing an infidel, (which is a command to all Muslims)
they are assured of a place in heaven. If that's the case, can you give me
the definition of an infidel?"

There was no disagreement with my statements and, without hesitation, he
replied, "Non-believers! "

I responded, "So, let me make sure I have this straight. All followers of
Allah have been commanded to kill everyone who is not of your faith so they
can have a place in heaven. Is that correct?"

The expression on his face changed from one of authority and command to
that of "a little boy who had just been caught with his hand in the cookie
jar." He sheepishly replied, "Yes."

I then stated, "Well, sir, I have a real problem trying to imagine Pope
John Paul commanding all Catholics to kill those of your faith or Dr.
Stanley ordering all Protestants to do the same in order to guarantee them a
place in heaven!"
The Imam was speechless!

I continued, "I also have problem with being your 'friend' when you and your
brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me! Let me ask you a
question. Would you rather have your Allah, who tells you to kill me in
order for you to go to heaven, or my Jesus who tells me to love you because
I am going to heaven and He wants you to be there with me?"
You could have heard a pin drop as the Imam hung his head in shame.
Needless to say, the organizers and/or promoters of the 'Diversification'
training seminar were Not happy with Rick's way of dealing with the Islamic
Imam and exposing the truth about the Muslims' beliefs.

In twenty years there will be enough Muslim voters in the U.S. to elect the
President! I think everyone in the U.S. should be required to read this,
but with the Liberal justice system, liberal media and the ACLU, there is no
way this will be widely publicized.

This is a true story and the author, Rick Mathes, is a well-known leader in
prison ministry.

as a desert storm vet, a-co 4-66 armour 3rd inf., i was fairly upset that our then pres. bush didnot let us finish the job. but in hind sight i realize that ifwe had went to baghdad and captured or killed saddam it would have started the civil war there 10 years earlier.

i do not support this war. but we are so far into this, just up and leaving canot be done. we cannot leave total chaos in the middle east. we must finish the job. america is not at war ,the army , navy , and marines are at war ,america is at wal-mart buying cheap made chinese crap. the only way i can see fiding an end to this is to establish a draft. when those with all the money have their children sent off to some far off country to come home dead or maimed, thats when we will start to see some change.

as far as terrorist in the US the only terrorist i see is the media. the majority of people here dont even know what it is like to live in a place were there is true terrorism. we are no safer now than before 9-11. just more hassled. im not worried about the muslims on planes,im worried about nukes in the ports. we want to scutinize americans but you dont even have to have a id card to enter a port .

a terrorist is a person or GROUP who spreads fear thru acts of violance or PROPAGANDA to achieve either a personal or POLITICAL goal.
now ask yourself who are the terrorists?

The war is a huge joke and we should pull out, but I believe firmly that anyone who supported it should go fight in it if it is so important to them. Don't send someone else to do your dirty work. Since I don't support the war, it is not my problem.

The concept of a draft is supposed to be the way you envision it, but history says different. In the Civil War a person could pay $300 ( a lot of $$$ in the 1860s) to be excused of his military obligation. In Vietnam you could get a college deferment (sometimes 5 like Dick Cheney) or join the national guard or reserves or have political pull (like W on both counts) to get out of dodging bullits. The guard & reserve didn't deploy to 'Nam. So who fights? The poor & lower middle class just like almost every war in US history. Thank you for your service in desert storm glad you made it back.:D

I think they should make it mandatory military service for every male when they turn 18, no matter what social, or economic class you are from.

It'll make people think twice about going to war, knowing their son definitely will be in the military.
