Check it out, each light is 150w cool white compact flouro. there's 450w total, then 145w (money is limited) of incandescent (red spec.)
with a total 4 plants and two sprouts, the oldest being 5 weeks and roughly 11". and the others only a week or two behind...
They've been put into 12/12 now... so we'll see what is to come.
Enjoy :) It makes me proud.

get the incadescents out, no need and are hot shit
BobBong

The incandescents fill out the other end of the spectrum don't they?

They dont put out enough lumens, they're a waste of power and cause too much heat, just take them out.

Bob....you need red spectrum tube fluorescents....example- GE,Sylvania,Phillips C4 & L4....you got the right idea just the wrong bulb...peace

well, it's not that it's not the right bulbs, it's merely nowhere near enough.
bulb shopping i must go

They Are 150w, i got them at the local hardware store (behind my apartment)
Called CanadianTire.
you maybe able to order em online.. but where? i have no iea.
Here's some more pics, kinda the same thing.. just different angles and such.

well here's a nice little update...
3 weeks into flowering...15 colas and 1 test branch (for sampling)
she's doing fine under the CFL's and she's joined by two others now in 12/12... smaller plants definately.. but a nice compact yeild if female..
also you see a clone (my first!) in a 5 gallon bucket.. i'm using a crockpot lid as a cover :P
enjoy!

bob, you know the Kelvins on those CFs ??
BobBong
02-18-2005, 04:28 PM
I don't know the kelvin of the CFL's no, they're "cool white" so i believe they're closer to the blue end of the spectrum.
Here's some more pics though.
enjoy

A "cool white" spectrum light contains the following spectrums of light: 1.63% of ultra-violent, 7.57% of violent, 20.78% of of blue, 24.67% of green, 18.27% of yellow, 17.75 of orange, 8.47% of red, and 0.81% of far red (infrared).

I just study alot. Even though it may look like I know everything, I'm still learning.

remember kids, this is my first grow...
just to prove that doing your homework and reading up on something BEFORE you start it.. can make a world of a difference.
But sensi is right, growing is a constant learning experience..
live and learn.

I actually read something recent about a guy who uses incandescent lighting to get some far red but he uses it for 1 hr at the end of the light cycle and 1hr at the beginning to simulate dusk.
I say simple is good. Folks have been growing under fluros and hps and mh for years with no added (and dangerous) UVB supplements or weird timing cycles. If it ain't broke, I'm not inclined to spend effort to fix it.
Looks nice and clean. Only suggestion I'd make is next time when you go into flower, prune more. It forces the bud growth to the top where the lights are which is especially important for CFLs as they don't have the same penetration as big ass HIDs. I LST or top and then prune away everything except for the top 3-4 nodes, then during the stretch I continue pruning until about 10-14days in 12/12.
Peace

kinda long, over 200 replies and some pics so if you've got a slow connection, be prepared to spend some time.

i've been pruning away the lower nodes.. but mainly because they've been starting to wilt due to lack of light... i actually plan on harvesting this plant twice if possible. so i was going to do as little pruning as possible.. i did have it LST'd really nicely, but i removed the tye after she slowed growing
Your plants look great man but the buds are small due to the low lumen output of your lights. You need to add more of theese 45w fluoros on your next grow.I had the same problem with my first grow.Small buds but at least they were very strong.

ya, i expected a small yield because of lighting and space and such.. not a big deal in my opinion ... to me it's all about the quality not quantity..
as you can see at 4 weeks into flowering
she's got about another 3 to go.
enjoy :) i know i will.
BobBong
02-27-2005, 03:25 PM
p.s i did some pruning on the main cola and a few side ones to open up the light availability to the lower colas.. it may set back my harvest by a week.. but my buds are gonna need that long to develope anyway :)
I agree with you my friend.I grow for personal use and the most important thing foe me is quality.Enjoy smoking your buds :)

how much does everyone think bob will yeild just curious . Good job bob i have the same type of floro spectrum setup except my light hangs looks good to see a setup similar to what i got make beauties like those . good job man just curious how many lumens does your box have total in the lighting
BobBong
03-01-2005, 01:59 PM
9000 lummens approx.
2900 per bulb
Thanks guys, i'm as impressed as you all are. the girl is really starting to plump up..
my estimated yield is about an ounce an a half dried. could be more... could be less... it'll be less if i don't keep my sampling fingers off it :P
i'm trying some different curing methods right now.. before i harvest the whole plant.. it always good to do trial runs before dealing with an entire plants harvest (practice makes perfect)
here some pics.. enjoy :)
As you can see the resin glands are really starting to open up, and the small plant is now 2 weeks into 12/12 and showing lots of signs of being a female.. the only thing is, it's gonna be one dense bud because of the lack of vegging ( i vegged the plant under shitty lighting)

She's getting close to judgement day..
I had a buddy test out the main cola i already cut, he gave it a 8/10... and that's not fully cured.. i'm proud, considering it's my first grow :)
chop chop this saturday, at a full 9 weeks in 12/12.
the 2nd plant isn't doing to bad either the entire top half has become mostly bud.. which proves to me, it doesn't matter how large the plant is, you can enforce flowering at almost any time..
the small plant was put into 12/12 after 2 weeks of medium grade lighting

approx. 14$ 2900 lumens per. i haven't seen 26,000 lumen bulbs there.
thanks for the compliments by the way :) this thread is kinda old... and my setup has actually grown from this.. be sure to check it out in 'Indoor Growing'
