Approximately 40,000 people are being held in US Federal, State, and Local prisons for Marijuana-related charges. Taxpayers pay $20,000 per prisoner per year to keep these people locked up. This means that the government spends $1.2 trillion in taxpayer dollars per year to keep people in jail for pot crimes. 1.2 trillion dollars that could be used to fix a shitload of other problems in the US and around the globe.
Legalize, Don't Criminalize.
