**Ignorance at its finest**
If anything, for the most part, there are bands today that technically blow away these classic rock bands. Take a listen to guys like Derek Trucks or Jake Cinninger and then TRY and tell me they don't have some of the best stuff you've ever heard.
For me, Led Zeppelin always had a profound effect on me. It's just something about the sound, the guitar, and the vocals that speaks to me more than any other. The Doors are up there too though for sure though, but mostly because Jim is so damn intriguing.
I will say that I was never a fan of Pink Floyd. It just always came off as far too abstract and random. It does help me drift off to sleep though lol.
i like a lot of them, but dont like this idea that modern rock doesnt compare to it. yes, nickelback doesnt compare to led zep. dig a little deeper than the radio.....
timeless music was made then, timeless music is being made now.
on classic rock i do love it, and i think writing off good rock being made today is a slap in the face of the influences.

Here are a few classic bands of the 60's and 70's that are definitely overlooked:
Spirit
The James Gang
Sweetwater
MC5
The Nazz
Vanilla Fudge
Quicksilver Messenger Service
Ten Years After (featuring Alvin Lee, definitely one of the most underrated guitarists of this era)
Montrose
John Mayalls Blues Breakers
rock is not dead. classic rock is dead. nickelback is not at te forefront of modern rock. neither is avenged sevenfold. maybe if you spent time actually finding out about good bands and then going to their shows instead of listening to your local classic rock station ad nauseam youd know this.

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried, just because there are some good bands now doesn't make the oldies less than they were and will continue to be.
Without the early guys to show the way the new guys wouldn't be where they are.

I never said to completely forget about the great bands of all time, but it's like most of you guys completely turn a different cheek to the great bands of today. I have nothing but good things to say about a lot of the classic rock, because as you said, music wouldn't be where it is today without them.
But I also find it silly to be completely absorbed by a band that stopped touring 25 years ago. I'd think you'd want to be in love with a current band that actually is touring, so you can do more than sit at home listening to records as old as my mother. Like I said, sure it's fine to love bands of the past, but when you're living in the past, you miss what's going on right now. And clearly a lot of you really are missing it. Keep an open mind and an open heart rather than turning a blind eye is all I ask. Trust me, there ARE better things out there than a LARGE amount of the classic stuff. Then again, to each his own I suppose..
This quote (funny enough a slogan from the greatest football team Arsenal) sums everything up perfectly:
"Remember the past, but look to the future."

All well and good however if you look at the title of this thread it kinda makes the whole "but look at what's being done now" argument a bit of a moot point wouldn't you say?
The whole point of it is for those that do apprciate OLD rock acts to state thier preferences , otherwise it wouldn't have the title CLASSIC rock now would it. lol
It would probably be just "ROCK" ,,,, yeah?

Lol, yeah man, I get that...but when does a thread EVER stay completely on topic. If that's all you got as far as a rebuttal that's fine too...
Just trying to give you some insight, or possibly temporarily hijacking the thread...in that case, my bad lol...continue to delve into the past great rock acts of our time.
The only reason I said something from the get-go was because there were people claiming modern rock is nothing like classic rock: a flat-out untrue statement. Again, just trying to shed some knowledge...
It's all good though man. Peace & love.

http://www.classicalbumslive.com/
I try to catch them often and recently saw them do Queen's "A Night At The Opera". They do pretty good work and it's as close as you will ever get to seeing your old faves one last time.
I'm diggin a lot of the new stuff also and caught Interpol about 2 weeks ago for a good show.
I just bought tix for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Kings of Leon for Holloween night.
Go and check out your local, indie music scene. You'd be surprised how many good, new bands you'll discover.

uh hello? did i miss something. i took nothing away from the classic rock bands. i like them and kknow more about most of them than probably you and everyone else here acting like they do. i love them, and i take nothing away from them or their influence. it seems to be everyone else who is taking away from new music by saying, yeah well it is isnt the beatles. let the beatles be the beatles. guess what, without the guy who invented the guitar, the classic rock guys wouldnt be where they were. not to mention all of their early blues influences you know nothing about. stop trying to be a music purist. there were great people then, there are great people now, you just have to look harder. of course everyone has influences that only makes sense you have to go back to cavemen banging rocks on walls if you want to dive too deep into influences.

You are just making noise man.
I laughed so hard at the notion that you know more than everyone here. You have no idea of what I know , believe me it's obviously more than you give anyone credit for . You aren't full of yourself are you (sic).
I would also like to point out (once again YAWN) I believe modern artists have as much to offer BUT the title of the thread says it all doesn't it ? CLASSIC ROCK.
Not classic rock v modern rock or anything like that OK!
Please crawl back into your playpen and stop your childish attempts to instigate an argument .
PS I hate the Beatles
yeah, and how many posts did it take someone to say modern rock cant compare. i give people on this website credit for knowing as much about music as you can find on local radio or on now volume 20 and maybe what they see on mtv bet or headbangers ball, so i will say i give most of the people on this site little to no credit for knowledge of music. i am glad you got your laugh though. i was not trying to instigate argument, i would invite you to go look through one of the many threads on here where people are saying blah blah blah pink floyd was the last true band. after you hear the same shit so many times(and this is where my arrogant sense of knowledge comes in, meaning if these people had any knowledge theyd know rock isnt dead) it starts to wear on you. and i also hate the beatles, im just repeating what ive heard. so since we seem to be in agreement, it is all good.

Hi.I know this aint a modern v classic tread thing is i've been around a while seen alot of the old bands live :) and up untill a few months ago wasnt really impressed by the modern rock. The only way i had to judge em was from listening to what was played on the radio.Only get 2 decent stations here{ tauranga New Zealand } one The Rock the other Hauraki a classic rock station .Then this live to air tv station started ALT tv they play bands i had never heard of i recon if some of this new stuff had of been round 35 odd years ago when i was a youngun it would be playing on Haurki today it Rocks :)
