Old Stoner

Peachtree City, Georgia - The Frederick W. Brown Amphitheatre - September 22, 2007
I'm an old fart, and at 50, have seen many a concert, from classical, to rock, to pop, to country, and even a gospel concert.
I remember seeing Mr. Frampton way back when he was probably around 19 with Humble Pie. I also saw him after Frampton Comes Alive was released, and of course, the concert was just electric.
He was a crazy good guitarist back then, and tonight proved the old fellow still has it! Tonight was no exception.
The opening act was a new kid from Atlanta, simply called Justin (justinmusic.com). Let me tell you, this kid was awesome. Played an acoustic guitar for the first couple of songs, then brought out another guy with an electric to add a little sizzle to his songs. He did a few off his new album, found at the website listed, and even did a cover of the Police song, Message In A Bottle. Even sounded like Sting. Justin could play the guitar, and had very mellow sound to his outstanding vocals to boot. We've seen tons of gigs at The Fred over the years since in opened way back in the 90's, and this kid by far was the best opening act the good people of the Fred EVER threw onstage (some of the other opening acts seemed as if they were chosen from an unemployment line). We thoroughly enjoyed this kid, and highly recommend buying his CD.
On to the Peter Frampton Fingerprints Tour 2007.
We were priviliged to see Peter earlier this year in the ATL, and enjoyed his concert there immensely, along with the Doobie Brothers. I wanted to see him at a more intimate venue, so the wife and I decide to get tickets when we found out he would be apearing at The Fred.
We were extremely glad we did. We were 14 rows back, just left of center. Great seats!
Mr. Frampton played most of the songs he made famous in that A&M release in 1976 of the must have album, Frampton Comes Alive. Plus he has released a CD back in 2003 called simply, "NOW." His newest release, an ALL INSTRUMENTAL offering named "Fingerprints," was released this year. I bought both CD's, and of course had to have a 2007 Tour t-shirt also, and will review the CD's later as I have time to fully listen to them, and maybe post up a couple of pics of the concert as soon as possible.
Anyway, the entire concert was absolutely amazing. Peter came out and did an instrumental, and although I did not recognize the tune, I didn't care. His guitar is STILL electrifying, to say the least, and he got the crowd up and roaring immediately.
His set list included the following songs, not neccesarily in that order:
I Wanna Go To The Sun
Do You Feel Like I Do
Lines On My Face
Baby, I Love Your Way
Show Me The Way
(I'll Give You) Money
Penny For Your Thoughts
All I Want To Be (Is By Your Side)
Shine On
It's a Plain Shame
From Fingerprints:
Boot It Up
Black Hole Sun
My Cup Of Tea
Blowin' Smoke
Encore:
While My Guitar Gently Weeps (George Harrison)
I Don't Need No Doctor ( Humble Pie )
After the initial instrumental opener, he had the crowd by the, well, you know what's. Nearly every song recieved a standing O, and the crowd was one of the loudest cheering I've heard all year, plus we didn't do too bad in the sing-alongs, either. Peter cracked jokes all night, and really made you feel like part of his family. Tonight was a very memorable experience. We enjoyed tonights concert over the Chastain performance because we had better seats, and well, he just seemed to rock harder.
The poor fellow has lost his long locks, but he still rocks with the best of them, and is one of the most energetic and entertaining acts still around.
I took over a hundred images, some good, some ok, some terrible, as the lighting was really messing with my camera, but hey, any good photographer will tell you that out of fifty shots, you might get five to ten that are keepers - real exceptional photographs.
I'll do the downloading tomorrow, and see if I can post up a few images of the show.
So far this year we have seen Paul Rodgers (ex-Bad Co. vocalist), Roger Waters (ex-Pink Floyd bassist), B.B King, Loverboy, Def Leppard, Styx, Foreigner (featuring drummer Jason Bonham, the late John Paul Bonham of Led Zepplin's son), ZZ Top, The Pretenders, The Who, and Tonight, Peter Frampton.
If I had to list the best five, from best on down, I'd have to go with:
1. Peter Frampton
2. B.B. King
3. Roger Waters
4. The Who
5. ZZ Top
But I have to admit, they ALL were very fine shows, however i was disappointed at the lack of intensity Def Leppard put in to their show.
So, in closing, I highly recommend seing Mr. Frampton if he is ever in your area in the near future.
He was, summed up in one word, AMAZING!
