the only way to get out of a ghetto, slum, hood etc... is to go into rap, sports (most likely basketball) and selling tons of narcotics, but please don't put all your eggs in one basket.

in a perfect world.... become a pillar of society. closer to reality, they probly have blue-collar jobs and struggle most of their lives like the rest of most of us.

just cause you are from one of those areas, doesnt make you a gangsta.
i used to live in one of the worst areas in detroit, marvin gardens(projects)
and most of the people i knew were good decent people with jobs, not necessarily good paying jobs, but jobs none the less

That's not true dammit! Most do get out of there, kids or no kids, and go to school (if they didn't finish) or get high paying jobs because of their people skills and kuz most are bilingual (like myself). Most places or companies want diversity and were from the "ghetto" or whatever, too. As long as you get your job done. I've never seen ANYONE from here go into rap or sports. Some sell, but that's only temporarily. They don't get caught because they're not dumbasses and they know what's up around here. The teens are usually smart and yeah of course theres those little wannabe thug kids, but they get that shit slapped out of them quick. People don't fuck around and try to pull an Eminem. I've lived in places like this all my life and I graduate high school next year, don't have kids, don't do anything else besides smoking and I'm going to collage. I make good grades, so do most of the others here. Don't go talking that stereotypical shit about places like this....or I'll bust a cap in yo' ass. lol jk :D

Sorry Belleza that was just my little derogatory comment. I didn't expect anyone to actually believe that.

Those are Hollywood fantasies. 90% of the males end-up in prison. Half of the remainder just don't make it past age 18. The other 5% are beaten-down, smashed-into a fine pulp and spread on focacia bread for the rich white people.

Less than 0.01% become "rappers" or other entertainers, so I didn't even measure that.

I'm not being negative, I just want to make sure I respond to the misconceptions that anyone's going to be getting rich or "going bigtime". If you're lucky, you grow-up in the ghetto without going to prison, getting shot or manage to get out and get a little college and maybe have a nice life.

Fantasies of making "bigtime heavie" are just another fogscreen The Man hopes will confuse you about the reality of the situation.

I grew-up in the worst of L.A. and almost every adult male in my family is in prison...if you're a male and you're trying to survive in the slums it's almost impossible not to end-up in prison or dead.

You determine your own destiny. Don't blame your brothers or your future on where you lived, man. Anybody can change the course of their lives.. it's all a matter of how much you want it..

All I'm saying is you have to take responsibility for your own life.. Some of the richest and most powerful people in the world came from the bottom of the barrel:

Danny Devito lived in a 24-hour city bus in NY, Arnold Schwartzenegger came to america with no money.. he laid bricks to pay for bodybuilding.. Johnny Cash almost died of starvation as a kid (his family was sharecroppers), Jim Carrey lived out of his car with his family in Canada for 2 years...

These are cheesy examples, but it makes my point: The people who make it out and up are the people who did something about it. You make your own destiny, that's all I'm saying.

damn thats a hard core place  .but i totally agree with u. I feel sry for the ones that think they cant get out and move up :(. They dont even try because they think its pointless. I know alot of people from that area. Its about 50/50 sum get out and sum get caught up. Guess it all comes down to what u are willing to do to change ur situation. :)

Got a job working nights (6pm-6am 6 nights a week) at a woodshop last fall, worked with a bunch of people from labor ready... Unfortunately I'm white and they were all straight out of Macom Country (the prison, primarily blakc population due to location)... Well yeah, lets just say I never went to work without my blade! Crazy bastards man...

When I lived in NYC, (love the city by the way) I actually knew real gansters, the old fashoned kind, I didn't know what they were for years because I grew up out west and did not really know about this kinda thing, I thought it was odd that they had these jobs but never really worked. I thought it was just a stereo type, well the movies and TV actually do not go far enough, they are actually very much more like that at times than you would believe, but can look like all types. They would introduce me as "he's the artist" and laugh, (I am an artist) and for them quite a novelty. I never had a problem, but don't ever borrow any money or anything, they will look at you a hole nother way, and they can tend to elivate situations at warp speed to a level you would never even consider, caution is advised around the real guys. Anyway it was always interesting to say the least.
