How long does weed last. ive had my bag for a couple months now and i smoke on occasions. i read somewhere that the thc can break down overtime. is this true?
As long as it's airtight, it'll last for years. If your going to store it for more than a week, i'd get some glass. It's much better than baggies - infact, glass is superior to anything as far as storing herb goes.
Glass jars with a cork or rubber stopper. Bottom line.

prescription bottles are pretty airtight (although wax is the only true airtight substance known)

Yeah, and if it sits for a long enough time in an airtight container, it can potentually cure more and get more dank.

Air tight containers - ive had some nebula in one in the dark for over 4 months and its still as strong if not better due to the long cure.

This is the case with freshly picked cannabis . Commercial cannabis has already been dried and cured and will not improve with age .

Glass jar with a sealed top in the freezer and your bud (in theory) should last forever. But if your bud is dry, and you have no way for mold (most common killer of buds) to grow. Mold needs moisture and dry bud has nothing to offer. Jars do also cure your buds to make them taste better and smoke less harsh.

Most of those buds are only cured for a month, top wack. People want to get them out as soon as possible.
The longer it's cured, the better - up to about 3 months. After that it's just storage.

Solutions of pure cannabinoids, nine samples of herbal and two of resin cannabis (one freshly prepared) were stored in varying conditions for up to 2 years. Exposure to light (not direct sunlight) was shown to be the greatest single factos in loss of cannabinoids especially in solutions, which should therefore be protected from light during analytical and phytochemical operations. Previous claims that solutions in ethanol were stable have not been substantiated. The effect of temperature, up to 20 degrees, was insignificant but air oxidation did lead to significant losses. These could be reduced if care was taken to minimize damage to the glands which act as "well filled, well closed containers". Loss of tetrahydrocannabinol after exposure to light does not lead to an increase in cannabinol, but air oxidation in the dark does. It is concluded that carefully prepared herbal or resin cannabis or extracts are reasonably stable for 1 to 2 years if stored in the dark at room temperature.

Lol who could store their bud for 2 years though? I mean if u had other supplies to smoke it wouldn't be such a biggie but the first drought that came along man i would be pinching from the stash to smoke up....LOL!

and yes, perfect, dried, cured bud, can be practically the exact same if put in a mason jar, in a freezer bag, in a freezer... for... i think the max i have ever known of:stoned:, is 4-5 years.

Does it go bad? No
Does it get very dry if you're not careful? Most definatly.
If you don't watch it, your nice sticky bud is gonna get dry as a bone and become a bit of a bastard to pull apart (but some people prefer it this way, easier to grind+smokes better in joints).
Some have already said glass containers, I prefer the ziploc baggie method, just make sure the air is all out, if this is gonna be a problem, try storing it in a fridge to keep its moisture.
P.S I hear freezing it increases/alters the high, something about trichomes, if anyone can elaborate on this, greatly appreciated.

Freezing is does nothing to potency. Freezing it makes the trichomes fall off easier - good for hash making. As for storing weed, freezing it is a complete waste of time.

For my bud at home I keep it in a glass rubber sealed jar in my closet I got from Dunkin Donuts. It works.

I'd keep mine in a bag, inside a bag, usually in another bag, inside an airtight container.
