Hows it going guys so I have some questions Ive been having for a bit so I figured I could get them answered here.

So my girl is worried that with our next grow we'd possibly have a higher risk on getting caught by the likes of a helicopter searching for heat.

So lets get to the Qs
1. How much heat does one need to generate for to even be noticed?

2. Does the heat generated from 1000 watts of CFL equal to 1000 watts of HPS?

3. An in episode of Weeds I seen they had this type of insultation on the walls that not only seem to be used as a reflective but as from heat being seen from the outside, does anyone know what type that is?

Thanks Guys

So lets get to the Qs
1. How much heat does one need to generate for to even be noticed? It is not illegal to have heat coming from your house. For 1000 watts or less I would not be the least concerned. If pigs wanted to bust you they would be more likely to look for changes in you electric bill, which could be reduced with fluoros.

2. Does the heat generated from 1000 watts of CFL equal to 1000 watts of HPS? No, both the light and the heat will be less. I assume you are not talking about actual watts, but rated watts. For 1000 actual watts, you could have 25 each of 200 watt fluoros.

3. An in episode of Weeds I seen they had this type of insultation on the walls that not only seem to be used as a reflective but as from heat being seen from the outside, does anyone know what type that is? I didn't see that, but there are thermal blankets that reflect both light and heat. I know some people use these in their grow.

No I mean actual watts cause I have 1200w worth of CFLs right now that me and the woman constructed.

As for that insulation, I guess it wasnt that but this stuff called PolyShield seems to be something pretty good considering that its highly reflective as well but keeps heat imaging in.

Check out this pic of them having a 1000w MH bulb sitting behind it

Looks like Polyshield works pretty well. If I were worried about helicoptors, I would consider it.

Im in a 3 family house so the grows have been in a closet. So basement and such would be way out of the question

In a closet you are not going to need to worry about it anyway. Depending on how big it is, you probably won't be able to do anything more than 600 watts. About the same as 2 space heaters. Of course you could always do fluoro, and then you really, really wouldn't need to worry. I highly reccommend HID though, even though it is much more involved to set up due to ventilation required.

agreed...unless this is some massive walk in closest....1000watts will probably be overkill
