Amazon.com: Depression-Free, Naturally: 7 Weeks to Eliminating Anxiety, Despair, Fatigue, and Anger from Your Life: Books: Joan Mathews Larson (http://www.amazon.com/Depression-Free-Naturally-Eliminating-Anxiety-Despair/dp/0345435176)
any1 ever read this book or at least given it a look? it runs through natural ways to fight things like depression, anxiety, anger, fatigue, etc etc
its really interesting actually
one method it gives is that it lays out all these nutrient schedules, where it lists all these vitamins and amino acids to take throuhgout the day that help with emotional illnesses like depression and anxiety...all completely natural, thats the best part....i needed this because my body just didnt agree with the valium and xanax so frequently
im just interested to hear any other opinions if any1 has checked this book out
also, if you suffer from anything like depression, anxiety, despair, anger or fatigue in your life and you cant figure it out or going to the doctor hasnt provided any solutions then i highly recommend this read...its amazing how things like eating right and getting certain vitamins, minerals, and aminos in the correct amounts and combinations can make a world of difference

Yeah, my doctor was going to prescribe me to Valium daily to help with anxiety AND depression, but I told him that I was already taking Ativan and I hate taking prescription drugs so he just told me to take St. John's Wort before I go to bed and 5-HTP when I wake up.
They work great, I think, but at the same time I have to wonder if its not placebo or not.

Just because you keep your brain healthy doesn't mean you won't be depressed.

St. Johns wort worked great for me and my depression but you do have to be careful because it is known to interact with several prescription drugs. I took the st johns wort and magnisium and it was a miracle combination for me. Kava Kava root is supposed to be another good one for depression and anxiety but it has been said that it can have some side effects which may include liver toxicity and you should consult with your doctor before starting either. And with all supplements buy from a trust company because they are not regulated like most think.

Do you even know what depression is? It has everything to do with the brain.

Just because you keep your brain healthy doesn't mean you won't be depressed.
This I do not agree with, clearly along with others also. Having a very physically healthy brain will significantly reduce depression, our perception is key here, often people will say you are being depressed over 'nothing', sometimes there are valid reasons, sometimes one finds it hard to ascend from these reasons and thus becomes lumbered in the realm of this certain event which consequently brings on the 'chronic' aspects of depression, this lack of ability to ascend from these reasons is often based on the perceptual world of them.
So I believe it is more about perception, if one has a better physical brain then ones perception of certain events may be different, one may perceive it in a more positive sense as 'moving on' or 'being stronger' Iâ??m sure you've all heard these phrases; "what doesnâ??t kill me makes me stronger". So I believe that depression can have external causes yet treatment lies within the health of the brain.
If your body is generally healthy, if you exercise regularly and eat healthy you will generally see a reduction in fatigue and depression, science is not the ruling elite in the quest of the battle of depression and psychological trauma, 10 - 30 years is not a lot of research and backing behind the drugs they pump in to you.
I hear that tomatoes have over 10,000 antioxidants yet scientists know of a mere 100 of them lol.
Hope this helps.

I've been diagnosed with major depression disorder, I know what it is. The thing is, if you have the healthiest brain in the world, where every single nueron and synapse is firing as it should and you just happen to have the social skills of an autistic nazi, people will not like you and you will probably be depressed. Keeping your brain healthy will LESSEN depression but it will not PREVENT it. The only reason i even said it was because I went on anti-depressants thinking that would end all of my woes and to be honest, they helped a lot but they didn't CURE me or anything, therapy and friends and family did.

When it comes to wondering about placebo effects, the only thing that really matters is the end result, not how you got there - even if it's just mind over matter, it's still working, isn't it?

It's also believed that omega-3 fatty acids can help lessen depression because it helps balance out omega-6 and lead to healthier brain which does not in itself necessarily cure depression but it doesn't help to have an unhealthy brain when you have depression it only makes it worse

in my experience xanax and volume are temparary and addicting fixes. I have suffered from depression and anxiety for 10 yrs. MY doctor has me on a seratonen enhancer CITALOPRAM AND MJ COMBINED THE CITALOPRAM CORRECTS THE HORMONAL IMBALANCE FOR DEPRESION AND THE MJ RELAXES ME. one or the other doesn't work but in combination i feel great. As far as diets my husband is diabetic and has congestive heart failure so diets in my household are very restricted.

I'm sure being healthy is definitely helpful for depression, but I don't think it could eliminate it. I've had major depressive disorders and bipolar and anxiety and just about everything both while I was a health nut and while i treated my body horribly. it just personally hasn't made a big enough difference.
my doctors (every single one i've been to) have said that i need to exercise and i will agree that regular exercise is really good for anxiety.
but i do think that a lot of the imbalances which cause psychological disorders need more than just good nutrition.
(but maybe i've just been brainwashed by the mental health industry whatever)

Gothen- does it matter? If you feel better, you are feeling better! Don't hassle it, accept it! ENJOY! :D
