a long ass time, lifers who fight and murder inside can expect to spend along time in solitary but i dont know what the law says,luckily i only spent a month in solitary confinement and let me tell you it blows

I always heard a funny rumor about what they do to Americans in Japaneses jails..the entire sentence is spent in solitary confinement..all you get to eat is fish heads and rice and water..and there is a clock on the wall..the reason is so you can watch time go by and think about what you did wrong..

thats pretty much the point,i spent 1 month in a little cell in my boxers freezing with the lights on 24/7 no shower no comunication and 2 cold meals a day all for trying to defend myself in a fight.its pretty crazy i couldnt imagine spending anymore time in there then i did cuz i would proly kill myself,they deffintaly need to work on that part of the law.

just concrete there was a toilet and a concrete slab for a bed they give you this crappy little mat that has no padding.nothing, i did alot of pushups but that gets old fast, pretty much just did alot of thinkin,i rembered songs and did the music videos in my head.it was the worst experince of my life.

they can be stuck in there indefinately..... legally too.... if they choose not to cooperate or do something really bad they get stuck in there (commonly refered to as the shoe or hole as well) then some prisons have set ammount of time for each offense before you're automaticly let out... while others will have to review you before letting you out....

I cant believe they can actually put you in them legally because it seriously effects your mental health, how would they decide which one to put you in prison or solitary, whats the difference there is it like for example you get 10 years prison but you can choose 5 years solitary or something?

no solitary is 'jail' inside of prison.... since alot of guys are lifers, or have severe long terms (50+ years) just adding to their sentence doesn't bother them, so they had to think of something to do to them, and of course torture is out since it's highly-illegal... beating as well...

solitary confinement was the outcome...

and yeah it's horrible, it's supposed to be... it is there afterall, to detour even lifers from doing bad shit...

i don't think anyone is put straight into the hole.... but if it does happen, i'd imagine it'd be reserved for the worst of the worst, unpredictable killers who have no regaurd for life, either of others or their own.

fighting is against the rules... they expect you to not fight back and go tell a guard....

what about clothes and showers? do you get them or haircuts?

exactly they would rather you get the shit beat out of you then defend yourself,but to get there i violated probation and pissed dirty and my luck i got the same judge i had when i was a juvenile and got all my felonies with so he felt instead of giving me a year were i would go to county jail he gave me one extra day so i could go to the penitentary what a nice guy

well the place has been knwon to drive many to insanity, and many more past that point, to suicide....

perosnally i think it's one of the most inhumane things still tollerated in the US...and definately does need to be abolished... i mean i can't think of any other way to instill fear in people that would be any better so they try to stay outta trouble.... but that doesn't make the hole right.

in prisons in the u.k they have to let you have a shower at least once a week and give you some sort of exercise,last time i was in prison (17 years ago when i was a idiot) i spent 4 weeks in solitary but i had been on the run for 2 days then went back with 2ozs of hash safely in my stomach, i was quite happy to be in solitary i didn't have to share my hash with anyone, it's not as bad as you think.

well he is right, but it'd depend on your personality too... i'm more of a loner, so being on suicide watch wasn't that big of a deal (juvi version of the hole, not AS bad, but you're definately by yourself pretty much all day... you don't get anything other then a blanket and the matress either [not even sheets or a book])
