View Full Version : WTF is going on with my plant??

Life and Situation of my baby gurl:
My plant is like 5' tall, full sativa, which i have been letting grow naturally in my closet now since july 4. I got her at about 8", let her veg tell about 1 1/2' - 2'. she has been shooting up like a rocket since i have swithed her on 12/12 which has been for about, we'll say 45-50 days. She has small bud sites that are very hairy all over her, except on the top, where there are bud sites but they are not anything like in the middle of the plant, whats that all about???
I have been feeding her FoxFarm Tiger BLoom since bud sites have appeared, and it seems like in the last 2 weeks the bud sites ALL OVER the plant have gotten no bigger or hairier, once again WTF is that all about.
Some grow and design specs:
- Grow area is a closet about 8' x 2' x 4 1/2'.
- 400W HPS about 2' above top w/ a standard Sylvania 400w HPS bulb, (saving my 400w GrowBright bulb for next grow).
- FoxFarm Tiger Bloom since flowering which has a NPK of 2-8-4. I havent been using any other ferts, foods, or supplements the whole grow.
- Temps have been around 80 - 85 F during light and about 70 - 75 F at night.
- Container size is about 3 - 4 gals.
- Ph is always at or right below 7.
- I have been using tap water throughout the grow??? IDK about that one.
- i have a whole cut at the top of my grow area with a 6" desk fan drilled into the wall and point outwards, also i leave the door on the bottom of the enclosure cracked about 1' open for intake.
The things i am looking for advice on are:
1. If the top of the plant creates the best buds, then why are mine barely producing anything??
2. Why have the bud sites stoped growing??? are my plants experiencing some ort of suspended animation??
:rastasmoke: ***** If neone wants to see pic's of my plant check out my post "What strain does everyone think???" in the "indoor growing" forum. They are from about 3 days ago.***** :hippy::jointsmile:

Well it sounds to me that the pots are way to little for every foot of plant growth youll need atleast a gallon of medium:thumbsup:Is the top of the plant forming pollen sacks? Its sounds like you dont have enough room for the roots to grow and they are prob locked up not getting any nutrients.Thats what it sounds like to me but its very hard to be able to make a precise diagnosis without pics and its still hard enough that way.Your best bet to find out what the porblem is is to check every single thing.Do not overlook anything also there is tons of info on here just search the furoms on plant problems>?This thread will most likely end up there also.(I did not see that you had links to your plant pics but its prob tyhe container there in ask stinky she knows what she is doing)

Light leaking in? Leaving the door cracked 1" could throw everything off if light is getting in even for a few minutes.
Have you sat inside the closet with the door cracked 1" to see how much light is getting in. If it is any more than the light of the moon your cycle can be thrown off.

i would show pics but my comp. is F'd up and i cant do attachment for some odd reason, BUT, if u look at my thread called "What strain does everyone think???" in the indoor section u can see some pics that are about 5 days old.
Also, i got in my gorw space the other day, which is my bedroom closet, to check for light leaks. There was absolute darkness with the closet door closed, even with all of my bedroom lights on. Which is why i believe it is probably a root prob.
I stopped by the local chron store the other day looking for some info. The owner of the store also thought my roots were locked b/c the top of the plant still has no bud action. He perscribed me with some granular Mycorrhizal fungi, said it ould get my root goin good again. So u guys should look for that thread to see pics and let me kno what u think, also about if this Mycorrhizal will be enough???? i like to ge many opinions, Thnx
PS i am in an altered state writing this so if some stuff doesnt make cents look 2 times  :hippy:

how often do you add nutes?
At full strength?
Do the leaves look healty? Any yellowing, spotting or discolouration?
I know you got inside and checked for light leaks with the door closed ....... but you said you leave it cracked 1" ....get back in there and leave it cracked 1" and see if you have light leaks. I'm willing to bet that is what is slowing things down. The light leak is causing the plant to go back to a veg state.

ok as for what the plant looks like, there is a link in a post about 2 spots up, it will show u what the plant looks like, so i dont have to give a noob description u can simply look for urself.
i add nutes about every other watering at full strength. i use tiger bloom only, i dont kno what else to use, remember im only still a noob.
As for the light leaks, the only time i leave the door cracked is during the light part of the cycle, in order to intake some good fresh air to my grow area, all doors and openings are completely closed when lights go off. Also if the plant was going back into veg state from a llight leak, which i dont think i have, wouldnt the existing buds wilt or start having probs if it were going back into veg???? They all look fine, they just arent getting any bigger, and the hairs are still 100% white so its not like its mature yet, u kno.
I stoped by the local chronic store the other day and the owener said it sounds like either a Ph prob or a root prob. He percribed me with a Ph kit and soem Micorrizal fungi. i administered the fungi yesterday and i think the plnat looks like it is trying to grow more now. But what is still sort of strange to me is the top of the plant is till growing upwards, but there is still no sig bud sites on the top yet????? Do the ydevelop last or something?????? And please click on that link and check out those pics man. I CANNOT attach anything, but u can look at the pics from the other day.

Alright here's my two cents---that's all it's worth...
I looked at your pics in your other thread.
Transplant---not absolutely necessary, but a very good idea none-the-less.
1. If you have someone who already knows about the grow, have them help you to transplant it into a clean 5 gallon bucket. How to sanitize: add about 1 gallon of water to the bucket, then two tablespoons of bleach. Wash the inside of the bucket with this, then pour it down the drain. Immediately dry the bucket with a clean towel to keep the plastic from absorbing the bleach any more than necessary.Transplant from old container to new container and water as usual.
2. It looks as if there is a little bit of fert burn goin on in the pics I looked at. Some of the leaf tips are browning. Drop back to 3/4 strength on your nutes, less is more with nutes once you find the burn point.
3. You have a sativa for sure. I'd say a nearly pure sativa from the structure of the plant. So, you have another 30 days or so, before she'll be ready for the axe. Also, sativas stretch---sometimes ALOT. You need to exercise all the patience you can.
Follow what I've told ya and you should be rewarded with some really good smoke....if you give her enough time!
Good Luck!

Dude ProGro, that is like Exactly what i was looking for, i think more people should give detailed info like u. However the prob with transplanting them that the plant will most def fall over if unassisted, hence the pop bottle (counterweight) also i put about a good 4" pea stone on the bottom of the container b4 the dirt to add drainage since i only had 1 drain whole. im thinking if upturn the container the weight of the stone will demolish the root ball, which is y i have been to hesitant to transplant through out the grow.
Another ? i had was my top will not stop growing and is now at the top of the area about 1' away from the bulb, which cannot be raised any higher. Should i attemt to bend the top to stop upward growth or what??? i need help

First...your welcome for the previous info.
Second...if the pot is plastic, you can score the outside of the pot with a utility knife, then break it at the score line so as not to cut roots inside the container. You can do this two different ways. I'd cut the bottom of the pot out and just set it down in the new soil that's in the new container. i wish I'd thought to tell you this in the post above, but ....um....ooops!-lol
Third...start bending that top down now. If your slick, you can start bending the plant somewhere near the middle. As it grows upward toward the light again, bend it some more. Then start to tilt your light (if possible) to give the plant as much light as you can over it's entire length.---I know it's a little confusing, sometimes I don't explain things clearly enough for others. My problem-not yours. Anyhow, when its all said and done, your light should be almost parallel to your plant. Something like this:

Yes i agree, good illustration.
ur plan sounds very good, however the container my babe is curently in is liek 2' in diameter, so im thinking the rooots are probably about 2' in diameter, if i cut out the bottom i will have a 2' circly of roots to deal w/, which i dont think i will be able to put in any ordinary plant container. or should i just put a little biut of soil into a new contaier to leave enought room for all of the roots then just sort of get it all in the pot then fill in the spaces w/ more soil???
Since my canopy has a good rounded formation and the very top has like noting on it i was thinking more of bending up towards the top, just under wehere the bus growth slows down. the reson for this is because i dont want to lean my plant over perfectly good bud sites and have the like be taken away from them, and im thinking if i bend at the top then the light will be evenly dispersed over the plants canopy.

Well, I didn't realize your container was two feet in diameter. How many gallons is it, do ya know?
And as far as the already formed bud sites go, if your concerned about them getting shadowed, they will gravitate to the light. They have plenty of time left.
But, so ya know, on my last grow of PPP (mostly sativa), I had a similar need to do some heavy LST late in the grow. The particular pheno, on this one plant grew TWICE as tall as my others under the exact same environmental conditions. So, I too was forced to LST due to light height. I did exactly what I was giving you the option of doing. In three days, all my vegetative growth was pointing straight up towards the light. Any leaves that shadowed a decent bud site were removed. Not everyone agrees about removing leaves, but it worked well for me. I ended up with 2.5 oz's of dried bud from a plant that was grown in poor containers in the worst dirt I'd ever had the misfortune of using. Plus, all I had for nutes was Alaska fish fert, and B'Cuzz PK 13-14. So, its a wonder I had a harvest at all.
In the end...it's all up to what you choose to do. That's the beauty in growing, you ARE the master.
PC....Thank You kind sir!

Time for an update. Ok so i ended up just bending the very top about 3 days ago, b/c of my plants 5' height and small stalk diameter i figured this would cause the least amount of stress to my plant. The plant has all of the sudden found out some way to pop its top out of the yarn and is now once again back upright 100%.
The buds are still not showing too much growth after being in flowering now for about 2 months. It is odd, the fastest growing bud sites are all located in the midle of the braches, with still barely no growth on the tops. Keeping in mind that my plant is indoors and 5' tall with only a 400w HPS i think i could have used some supplementary lights around the sides.
It is not like my plant is dying b/c it looks healthy as shit, it is just that my bud sites are producing almost nothing except white hairs, which they have plenty of. Along with the lack of bud sizes the plant seems to have almost no trichs on it. I do not have a magnifying glass, only my eye glasses, but shouldnt i be able to see some trichs on the buds and small bud leaves at 2 months flowering???
Im starting to think my first grow may not end up too pretty.
PS i will try to get some updated pics up soon

Yes, do try to get some pics. You know, some detailed, some of the whole plant too if possible.
Remember its a patience game we play;). Some pure sativas can take 120 days from the start of the 12/12 light cycle. One strain called Delat, that I just read about is one of them. The grower says it takes between 120 and 140 days to mature!

Yes, i had heard that sativas do generally take longer than an indica to mature, i know im probably being impatiant but this is my first grow so im about ready to how i did, u know??
I will try to get ahold of my roomates digi cam when he gets back from the bar to get some new pics up. In the mean time i guess ill be hnagin out with my plant watchiing her grow.
PS ProGrow, have u ever grew or know nething about growing cindarella 99??? i was thinking about picking up some of these c99's from joey weed, i heard they are an awsome buzz. I was wondering what u would suggest for a second grow, if the c99 would be a good plant or not??

Aaaaah--C99, I've just started a run of Cindy99! I'm gonna post some pics of them in my grow log in just a little while--see my sig for the link.
I can't give you much info on C99 from personal experience other than to say the strain was highly recommended to me by image reaper. Great guy, with great info. Maybe he'll stop by here and give some of her characteristics. I don't think, from what he told me, that it's a very difficult strain to grow. Yield should be medium-heavy. I know thats vague, but mine are no where near done, so again, I can't speak from experience and don't want to be misleading in any way.
What I can say is, you could do far worse with your choice, than Joey Weed. He has very good genetics from what I hear. And good genetics are half the battle. I'd do it if I were you---umm well----- I DID do it, didn't I?--lol
Very good service from Hemp Depot too---no worries there!
As far as hanging out with your plant....if it wouldn't piss off the Mrs., I'd have slept in the same room with mine by now!---lol I really have thought about it. It's funny how all the nurturing you do, develops a weird sort-of bond, huh?

LOL, i kno, i feel like i have a child or somthing now. And i do sleep in the same room as my lady, well its in my bedroom closet, close enough.
Yes i have gotten soem good stuff from image reaper, sounds like a very smart guy/girl.
Also that is awsome u have just started some c99. And that wasnt too vague either, i was really just looking to see if it produced good yeilds and if it was difficult to grow, so actually u answered my ?, thanx ProGrow..
Im still tryin to get that digi cam also, so hopefully b4 too soon i will have some updated pics for u.

Hey there, just remember acclimated sativas always tend to flower way longer than an indica, but im sensing you might have more of a problem. It's probably your blooming ferts, you want to take it easy the first couple weeks of flo and work your way up from a quarter,to a half, third, then full strenth solution and fertilze ONLY once or twice per week on the same sheduled days,if twice then fert with a few day in between as to let the plant use the fert, not cause burn...or worse kill it. But it may also just be genetics....i suggest you flush it with clean distilled water for a week ....then taking it easy on the fertz and your lovely girl, alotta times more is less....find a balanced routine..hope this helped.
