Since the heat dissipating fins are on the top, should it be mounted with those facing upward? It seems like if it's mounted vertically then the heat from inside isn't going where it needs to. Or does it make so little heat that it doesn't really matter?

If it's mounted on a wall, it'd be best to mount it with the fins running up and down. It'd also be best to mount it as low as possible on the wall since there will be cooler air near the floor. But Lumatek ballasts can get pretty hot without having that effect performance, so heat isn't your biggest concern.

I'd agree that the air lower in the room will be cooler, but I prefer to mount ballasts a little higher- up above potential " splash zones".

Def vertical fins.
