There is an interview with pro fighter Nick Diaz at Sherdog up right now, discussing his marijuana suspension. Beatdown: Nick Diaz Uncensored (http://www.sherdog.com/news/radio.asp?ID=308) (or check itunes)
Nick Diaz got a raw deal 6 months ago when his win over Gomi was overturned after testing positive for marijuana. Nick won the fight by submission, yet the State Athletic commission reversed the decision, fined him and suspended him.
Nick may not be the most articulate person in the interview but he does make some very valid points about using marijuana to train in mixed martial arts. Basically, he states that pot has been really beneficial in his success as a pro fighter and jiu jitsu.
The interview starts at about 1hour 30minutes into the show.

oh god... he must of read eddie bravo's fuckin book
i train mma all the time, and i don't follow that jiujitsu hippie bs.
i just think he was a bit retarded for risking the biggest fight of his career, over weed

His excuse for being popped was that he thought that they were only testing for steroids. Really though, he could have taken some precautions to avoid the whole incident. His excuse for using is recovery after a workout- which I am pretty sure is how the majority of athletes use marijuana as a "supplement."

Diaz rules, and it's kind of bullshit that he gets suspended and a NC for marijuana when there has yet to be similar rulings for athletes using actual performance-enhancing drugs (sherk, gracie, this list goes on).
I can't wait to see him fight again. Such heart, and killer skills.

Nick states that he was unable to get any fights at all because of the suspension, including at Indian reservations. This meant that he and his family were denied income as a result of the suspension. When the other fighters tested positive for steroids and such they were merely fined.
I also might add that a lot of other fighters that got popped for this stuff were the losers in their fight. There is no denying that Nick beat Gomi when he wrapped that gogoplata on him.
In the interview Gross asked Diaz if he has anger management issues. I think being a pro fighter is the perfect profession for someone that might have anger issues.

Speaking of Lawler in a Diaz thread, Nick owned him too.
That was a great fight -- Diaz, a BJJ guy, surprising everyone with his boxing. To quote Joe: "Bang! Right on the button."
I can only find the last round, but it is a great clip. One of my favorites.
Peace, and enjoy.

Fuking commision weed is not an enhancing drug, I thought he lost to taka gomi casue hes was talkin about how he was hitting me with those fukin hyuken punches and they didint hurt till I looked in the mirror. That was a funny ass interveiw. They caught Sanchez with weed too but it was before a fight they almost took his shitty contract with UFC. I am realy starting to dislike dana white and the way he runs UFC. Oh well it was bound to happen, up untill a couple years ago they didnt even test at all.

yea after i heard what the firghters really make per fight, it seems there getting a raw deal, in a way compared to dana. but it's a 2 edge sword i guess without him they would'nt be fighting.just abuse of power i think as it seems to me that only when someone is on top does he hang with them, and if they lose he's like who r u??and another thing i can't stand is the guys calling the fight, joe and the gang. don't get me wrong i like joe, but they seem alil back stabish in a way as u always see them bragging there asses off about the champ, and has nothing but good things to say and pretty much dogs the other guy, not out right but really don't seem to know him or talk much about him.
but as soon as the champ starts to get into trouble, it's like they forgot about him and are like ohh yea this "other guy"whoever he may be is this and this, and then they start talking about what a bad ass he is seems alil 2 faced to me.

I think it's ridiculous that fighters and athletes get drug tested. If I can smoke pot and hold varsity, it's none of the coach's business.

Dana white has made it so UFC is no longer where the best fights are.............Pride has alot more better fights now, and the new champ proves that, I wouldnt be supprised if he moves the belt to pride just outta spite.......... Thats if they dont give him a champs pay
