a question about bud growth

so yesterday im over at a friends house smoking a j when one of his friends came by but anyway we started talking about growing and he said that when the buds first start growing to pop off the tops of the bud and it will make the buds bigger. i never heard anything about this so if any one could tell me about this or if its even true i would appreciate it.

now depends if the plants veggin if so the shoot not bud will spit in two and you will have 2 shoots this is called fimming,now if you on 12\12 bud cycle i haven't treid any thing like this but i have heard if you bend and actually kink the stem the bud grows vigorously now this is just what ive heard. its called supercroppin i heard this

No, dont 'top it' DURING flower! Usually the 'top' makes the fattest bud on the whole plant. If you 'top' it 2-3 weeks BEFORE flowering it'll get all branchy.

You can sometimes harvest more by 'topping' than you would normally but in some strains it just spreads out the buds instead of one big one on top and you get about the same or less bud from the branches.

i know this,thats not what im talking about, the actual bud when it gets a couple inches long he said to pop of the just the top of it not the hole thing not topping it

I think most of your respondants understand what your saying. You are not listening to them. In most cases if you top the plants prior to flowering they get more gowth sites. If you top a plant as it is flowering you usually ruin what would be your very best bud. To really see what happens your friend should top one during flowering and not top another to compare to see what really happens.

no your not listing i already know what topping is and does to a plant im not talking about that,no were did i say he was talking about topping plants i said the actual BUD pinching the top off and in return he said it makes the bud fatter NOT TOPPING IT. so why dont you read the post better, i know what he said if you dont know what im talking about then you dont have to answer.the guy was more on the old timer side of growing so thats who im looking for responses from.

What if the very tip of the bud (less than half the bud itself) were removed. Like, 3-6mm of a bud - no where near as much as you would cut in topping OR even FIMing. Just the very tip top.

Personally, based on my botanical experience, it probably wouldn't do much good. My thought is that because you take the tip off, the remaining bud looks fatter due to a perspective effect. Since it is shorter, its width seems larger. In reality I doubt it really widens the bud - it just appears to (which may be good if you plan to sell based on appearance, bad if you sell on weight, which is the norm). I would bet the bud weighs less if treated as metioned than if left to fully mature, even if by only a small quantity. Then again, I would never sell, PERIOD. As limited as my freedoms are in this country regarding these matters, I would still rather be in the working world than behind bars...

alright yesterday i went to his house and to his amazment the buds stoped growing,i said i guess you'll think twice about doing something to your whole crop just off of word of mouth.
