Hey all,

Basically this topic is going to be quite big, depending on whether I get the replies of course. I have a number of questions, mainly to do with the size of my buds.

I am on my second grow and have started from clones. The plants are healthy as you can see in the pics.

My first question is a difficult one, the mother was from bonus bag seed and I was wondering what strain you guys think they are and if that is causing the small buds?

The next question... I am using a 250w HPS light and it is 30cm above th plants. Is this an OK height?

The last question is basically what do you think is causing my small buds?

The pics make them look quite big but they are not fat but thin and about as wide as the width of a credit card (including leaves).

Thanks a bunch guys, let me know ASAP :)!

And another question, these plants are grown from 1 gallon pots, could this be causing the small size? I don't have room to fit any more and will be starting SOG with 1 gallon bottles (cut and blacked out) lol as a ghetto space saver :).

PS. Didn't add any sand or perlite to soil as plant worked out fine, I will for next grow.

Hi there fellow grower!

Small buds can be from a nmber of things but mainly this one. The amount of time in veg.

How long did you veg em?

Your lamp hieght should be fine just make sure they're not gettin burnt by it :)

You can never esactly put a strain to a plant from just a picture usualy only tell whether its indica or sativa. Some strains are blatent but im not a strain advisor so i couldnt tell you.

Your pots arent an ideal size but i cant see why this would cause small buds. Would cause smaller plants tho. Also it could just be a characteristic of the strain.

Hope this helps and get back to me

Check on my grow aswell :)

Thanks for replying, I vegged them for 3 weeks after cloning, but am thinking of starting a SOG grow. This means there will only be about 1 weeks veg so surely it can't be that or SOG would be pointless.

I think the veg time was sufficient because there are plenty of colas just thin buds. I respect your view however perhaps you can help me further.

Btw nice avatar :D

What medium are you growing in? What kind of nutrients and supplements are you using? How much, how often?

Your pot size isn't helping much, but if that's all the room you have there isn't much point in going into that.

Im not sure what soil I am using, it's just what I bought from the garden centre and is all purpose. I use Neptunes harvest fish emulsion nutes with a drop of superthrive and the occassional epsom salts.

I water with nutes, then without, then with again and so on.

Hey, bigger pots would help if that's possible. 4 gallon is recommendable, which is what we have used. Although if anything bigger than what you have is better.
It would be a number of factors that contribute to bud size.
-Ferts used
-Ventilation, CO2 replenishment, air flow
-Strain (some naturally produce bigger buds)
-Lumans of your lamp and distance.

I don't really know enough to be giving advise on growing (I'm usually the one taking it!), so take this with a pinch of salt as I could be totally wrong.

Ok thanks for your input. I am thinking of getting some bloom nutes and perlite etc. for better drainage in the soil.

You don't have perlite? If your just using soil, with nothing in there to help it drain then that's not good. You could potentially end up with root rot I assume, but am not sure. Make sure you water carefully, and good soil is a necessary investment.
Bloom nutes are good, just make sure your getting the right level of N.P.K, if your not going to a growshop thats important as you could pick up stuff that isn't suitable for flowering cannabis. Another thing you could look into is "Molasses", do a search on here. I've heard it's fantastic for flowering, and can even be used RIGHT untill the end of flowering, whereas nutes shouldn't be.

Ok cool. Is there an alternative to Perlite?

Also what levels of N.P.K should I used?

And finally where can i get molasses in the UK?

Hey, yea I think sand helps in soil. A big bag that would last you about 4 grows doing 2 plants a time is only about £10, but you can make your own soil mixture. Search on here.
I don't know what N.P.K levels should be used, search.
I haven't been able to find molasses but didn't look very hard as we only decided to get it about a week before harvest. I know that it's used for baking/cooking, it's not specifically used for growing so finding it at a garden/grow shop is not likley at all. Should be in some food shops, have a browse.

Ok thanks mate, did you get your perlite from your local garden centre?
