Have just finished a 25 year stint in jobs that did not allow smoking and, at 45, have just started school again (in Virginia) for a career change. I can't handle alcohol and am really wanting to get back into smoking. I really dig the school thing and am looking forward to being able to get into some deep conversations and become exposed to lots of new ideas and philosophies. Thing is, I don't know anything about the scene, I can't even think of how to find the weed and I would guess one can't buy a four finger bag of Columbian for $35 any more. I want to get back into smoking without getting ripped off or busted and this seems like a good site to reeducate myself on my way to becoming reaquainted with weed... and deciding if the benefit still outweights the risk/cost! Any input from more "seasoned" folks or those that have faced similar circumstances is appreciated.

to say the least. Things have really changed, like what the heck is a vaporizer... guess its like a motorized power hitter or somethin'. Bongs and papers is all I know (ha). I wish I was in a situation that allowed me to grow but am not... and so my search for a safe and reliable source will continue.

Dude, we need to talk.
I want you to google the words, Quick Fix. Well, shit, i guess its a bit past that point now, but if your thinking about ever taking a job that requires you to piss, this IS the answer.. Take it from a fed.

Not if your in mexico :D lol
I wish I could have gotten oz that cheap. But welcome aboard, stay true to forums, they give great advice here... problem your probably going to have is finding the connect #1 and #2 making sure you won't get ripped off, depending on where you live, it might not be as hard as you think, but like you said, you want to be as safe as going to the store to buy a pack of gum and not like your going to the block to score blow ya know what I mean? Best of luck and welcome aboard.

Man, I am 50, and I bought SUPER Columbian Gold, Panama Red, etc. for twenty bucks an OZ. This was back in the '70's. I too am just now getting back into the weed after 20 years of raising hell, uh, oops, I mean, children, flyr, and they are grown and gone now. I know where you are coming from. My connections? Can't find 'em for sheet. Must be all in jail. I'm just gonna buy some seeds and start the cultivation process.
Course I never could grow anything, so I'll probably waste my miney and murder my own weed. Sucks being 50 with no connects...
Oh well...
Peace, and hello to everyone,

Boy can I relate to all you old guys (i'm 58) and started to dabble in smoking after a major wreck. Surgerys, chronic pain for 16yrs. I was a Train Engineer, had a Head On in "91" Buying was my modus operendie. I could'nt smoke meccy, so 400$ ounces were all I could find. Not to say it was fine. Always top notch indy, A bit pricey but always great. Now for the last year I'm growing my own. Saving thousands? I'll die before I quite smoking now. It relieves pain, stress of pain, lifes small bullshitty things all go away when need to. Up in smoke you know?

Snake, I hope you get to feeling better. My dad was a switchman and got rearended after another train ran a red board back in 1975. Screwed him up real bad. But he never did the wacky tabacky - not even medicinal. Heck, don't think they even had medicinal back then, although a government grow near University of Mississippi made big time news - the kids would sneak in and rip off some buds, until a bunch got caught, LOL...
Good luck with the pain - I feel for anyone who has chronic pain - my best friend's wife has Andalosing Spondylitis (sp) and she is in constant, severe pain. Weed helps, but she is on high dosages of Hydrocodone-Apap as well.
God bless ya, Snake,
Peace,

Hi! I went back to college in my 50s. It took about two weeks of sitting at the "stoner table" and rapping with the kids to make a good connection. Check the student lounge or cafeteria. There is usually a group of easily spotted stoners. Just be low key and honest. The point when they REALLY accepted me was at a party- when I showed them how an "old lady" can clear a 4 foot bong! LOL! After that, I was one of the "ganja gang".
Vaporizers- GET ONE! I have a little Vapor Brothers that I LOVE! (about $150 for the hands-free type- and worth every cent!) You use less pot. They are VERY easy on the lungs- no morning cough. They don't smell like you are smoking pot- just a very mild, easily covered odor. The VB is good because you can set it up, take a few hits and then let it sit for "however" long, come back and take the next hit without losing THC! It just sits there waiting for you to inhale! And if that isn't enough, the leftovers from vaping can still be used in baking! Yes, you can get high twice off the same pot! Not as strong as using fresh bud, of course, but I get a respectable buzz off of my brownies. (I like to add hemp seed (totally legal) from the health food store to my brownies. Hemp seed is high in Omega 3- good for your heart. It is also delicious.) A vaporizer pays for itself in many ways!
Since you aren't a "spring chicken", you may find it interesting to go through my "medical studies" post. A lot of the "old age" infirmities are lessened by the use of cannabis. Just click the link below. - Granny:hippy:

So i'm not alone... nice to know there are others out there trying to reconnect at a later age as well. Growing looks like the way to go but can't do it at the house right now, unfortunately, so am thinking of trying something on public land... good woods around here. Guess I'll have to poke my nose in at the growers threads to see if that is feasable and to get some advice. Man I am getting impatient... just wanna get stoned again!

I scored, I am so excited:thumbsup:! So far just one joint but I am edging my way back into the game. Don't know the quality yet, gotta wait till some day during the week when things are nice and relaxed and I can go out in the woods and really enjoy the high that I haven't felt in 25 years! Man, I hope this little joint can make it through tonight. Hey Stoner... nice goat, the one with the wheels I mean;)!

I smoked three times when I was 18, it scared me because of christian propaganda. I started smoking a couple years ago when I was 29. You will find out a lot of people smoke that are many different ages. Congratulations on scoring.;)

Thanks fly4hire, on the kind words for the BrazenOne (my vanity plate says Brazen1, because the color is Brazen Orange Metallic). You know, I did not like the looks of 'em when they came out in '04, especially without the hood scoops, but by '06 I had the new car fever. Glad I bought it. It's the best car I've ever owned, and I've had plenty (or like my wife sez, "way too many.")
Man, how did you score just one jay? I need some pointers badly. I am afraid as hell to just walk up to anyone and ask if they smoke, or have any connects. Even if they LOOK like they get high, you know?
We went to see Peter Frampton tonight, and I KNOW I saw tons of heads out there, but I am afraid to approach a stranger. That'd be just what I need, to get busted and lose my job and shit.
And now, my wife is giving me shit about not wanting me to start growing outdoors next spring - she's afraid I'll get busted and lose the house and everything we've worked for -because I don't know anywhere else to grow it except on my own land - and I can't grow indoors, because I don't have the room, and the kids come over all the time, and the grandkids are all over the place, etc. etc. and so on and so forth.... blah blah blah, LOL...
Man, I need some advice. I live in a little bitty county, where everyone knows everyone else. I'd rather go out of town and score, you know, but then, I'd probably be paranoid I'd get popped on the way home.
Shit I am a basket case. I want to get stoned so bad, I'd trade both nuts....
HELP! ANYONE! Someone give me some advice. Not looking for hookups (well, I am, but not aksing from them here) I just need advice on how, where/and what to look for.
Oh well, maybe I better go read the Power Of Positive Thinking or something, and STOP looking at these High Times I just bought. Makes me salivate all over the damned pages, LOL....

Stoner... man, I was really freakin out about how to approach people! Stinkyattic suggested hanging out at places/with folks that are smoker frequented, river rafting, sky diving, etc. Good suggestion but I am extremetly time limited with full-time grad school so plan B.
I spent a lot of time reviewing all the people I've come into contact with on a regular basis and have established a pretty good relationship with (all be it from a customer/provider relationship). I evaluated how "cool" they are, and whether I could afford to approach them (damage control- could I afford them knowing that I am a smoker). On my short list popped up a one of my class mates, the guy at a smoke shop I buy cigars from, a girl at the dry cleaners, and the dude that works at the gas station I go to all the time. I then had to kind of decide how to approach and figured I'd just come out and ask "hey, this might seem kind of strange but... I'm looking for smoking alternatives, you know anyone who's got the green?" Scored on the second try and am not so sure the first guy may not come through... he was just so shocked, he was not against smoking but I think couldn't process the button down-type dude in front of him asking about smoke. The second guy stated that he didn't know if he shoud be discussing that with me... he obviously knew what I was talking about so I just told him about my situation and he said he'd see what he could do. Yesterday, he appologized for not coming through on a 1/4 oz that he told me he would hook me up with, so he passed me a joint and told me to enjoy until he came through!
So anyway, I couldn't wait took a couple hits and got high last night... what a great experience. I'll write about that in a different thread because it was such a wonderful experience... much better this time than I ever remember it being in the past. What an experience, damn!
BTW Stoner... check out the rubbermaid grow container on the growers thread... that looks like the way to go if you have limited room and/or need security! I don't know nuthin' about growing but as I was trying to figure out if I could do it... that looked like a good option.

Welcome back, flyr!
I'm lucky, I live in California and am "legal". However, I live in a redneck town and work at a school! Pure disaster if they ever found out that their "super aide" was a major pothead! I've got legit medical issues that pot helps and I refuse to live in pain, especially when the treatment is SO pleasant! :stoned:
Well, Granny's got a "well-lit" closet with a doubled-over dark shower curtain in the doorway to block the light leaks either way. I grow in some 19 gallon rubbermaid-type tubs ($4- Walmart). CFLs and tube fluoros provide about 600 watts of light- sufficient for my needs. I went through the house and switched all the light bulbs to CFLs, so my electric bill didn't spike. I also run a small 24/7 cabinet about 60 (actual) watts of CFLs for seedlings and clones. I have 3 to 6 small plants in flower at all times and it keeps me medicated.
And you older dudes, those pesky medical issues will be showing up as we all get older. You might want to take a peek at treatingyourself.com - a nice Canadian medical site! Great contests and even greater folks! They tend to be a bit on the more mature side and the posts are "down to Earth". TY feels "family". In one way or another, everyone there "has been through the wringer" and it brings a level of honesty that is seldom matched. - Granny:hippy:

Thanks for the advice guys, and I think I have just found myself a legit person who may be able to find me a supplier! One of my old smoking budies from high school, and the funny part is I just happened to run into him, at, of all places, the hospital. My best friend is in ICU with internal bleeding that they STILL cannot find after two days, and are gonna do a colonostomy tomorrow, but that's another story. my old smoking buddy was in the waiting area - his daughter had cut her finger and was getting stitches with mommy in the ER room with her, and me and my old bud chatted for awhile. I am keeping my fingers crossed, though, as he said he'd look around and see what he could do. we'll have to wait and see!
I guess it kinda freaked my old bud out asking about weed. My hair is super short (for summer cooling, LOL) and of course, at 50, it's also gray. And I dress rather conservatively, albeit in a nice t-shirt and jeans, so I know what you mean flyr4hire about the button-downs, LOL.
I actually have figured out what it is that is happening to me - i am trying to relive my youth, he, he, he.... Nah, just kidding. I just remember how nice it was to be stoned.
I am SO glad for you flyr4hire. Good luck with your continued quest!
And thanks, Stormy, as well. You, Stinky, birdgirl, and several others have really impressed me with your advice. Thanks to you guys mentioned, and anyone I didn't!

Well I would also be worried about bringing it up in front of random people. Someone could be an off duty cop, an undercover, or could be a busybody who would run to the cops at the first sign of trouble. Probably nothing to worry about but u can't be too careful when it comes to protecting yourself.

Welcome dear old fogey:D (Takes one to know one!)
I quit smoking for many years too, but decided life is too short to deprive myself of something that makes me feel better. I have spent the last year growing (went to Amsterdam on my 50th birthday and brought back seeds), and thanks to all the help from the growers here, I have enough delicious cured weed packed away to keep me going for years! I strongly suggest growing even a small amount so you are not at the mercy of unscrupulous folks- dealers suck!!!
I look forward to hearing about your fun times with maryjane:stoned:
