So, Saturday I decided I had enough pot to cook with. I read all about it online, spent a lot of time here, and made all my preparations. I put a stick of butter and a quarter of chronic in a saucepan and simmered it for about 30 minutes. At that point the cannabis was all black and I was worried that I was burning it, so I took it off the heat and strained it. I put the liquid in the freezer, and sure enough, I soon had 4 ounces of thick olive-green cannibutter. I ate a little on a bagel, and put a large portion in a drink consisting also of whiskey, water, and honey. I waited. Nothing. I waited one hour. Nothing. I waited two hours. Nothing.

Finally, after over three hours, I gave up and went to bed. I woke up 14 hours later, the next day at 3 PM.

Irritated and disappointed, I tried to figure out what went wrong. I decided that I either didn't cook the pot long enough, or I didn't eat enough. I melted the remaining cannibutter and added some fresh butter and the partially-cooked weed to the saucepan. I cooked it for about 20 minutes, so it was even greener than before. Once it was strained and cooled, I ate it all between a bagel and another drink, this one with milk instead of water and alcohol. The drink was so repulsive that I had to immediately take a bite of peanut butter after each sip.

But, alas. Two hours passed, nothing happened, and I fell asleep, waking up 13 hours later. I felt betrayed. What went wrong? The first day I could understand more - I probably didn't cook it long enough, and drinking it with water might have diluted it. But the second day, I dunno. I think I might have slept through the effects, judging by my odd sleeping pattern. I did feel a little "off" when I woke up.

Anyway... I guess the moral to this story is, be careful when you cook with weed. Know what you're doing. Although, everyone has to have a first time, a fuck-up - and this was mine. Oh yeah, and eat your weed during the day, when there's no risk of sleep.

ALWAYS use a double boiler when making butter, it sounds like you cooked it wayyyy too much. If it even starts to turn at all brown, immediatly take it off the heat. Getting it hot enough to turn destroys all the thc, leaving you with burnt butter and plant matter, yech.

You live you learn, good luck next time. When you do it right, the taste is unbelievable, as well as the high.

Also, it takes roughly 2 hours for the thc to be dumped into your blood stream from your liver - depending on how much you have in your stomache, so you may have gotten stoned in your sleep.

yeah - is it a coincidence you fall asleep two hours later both times for 13 hours? digestion takes a long time- even more than two hours, so could be you got blazed the f up in your sleep- lol now that is a f-in waste of a quad~

I feel for you on this one. Everytime I've been anywhere near a kitchen with bud I've wrecked it and come up at best with an undigestable mess.
On the plus side it does sounds like you've got something there to put horlicks out of business. :D

you must have burnt it m8, it dosnt need 30 mins just chop up gear melt the butter in a pan then put your stuff in with the butter and put the whole thing on a LOW heat stir it around abit if it starts turning black take it off the heat the butter should start going a slight green colour. u only need to do this for 5 mins at the most.then the thc should be absorbed by the butter let it cool and harden.

Yeah - butter burns like fekking easy as well, so as LonerStoner said, either double boiler it (or bain marie if you prefer the catering nomenclature) or use somethign with a higher smoke point, like olive oil.

This was my first attempt at budbutter. I took about about about a oz of leaves and stems from a friends widow after his prune. Put in 2 sticks of margerine some water and my ground up herbs. Brought everying to a boil in a large pot <no pun intended> Once it boiled I put the gas on low and let it cook for about an hour. Grabbed my cheesecloth and began to pull out the cooked herb. There was a dark brown liquid that smelled...blech and then the more I twisted and squeezed the herb in the cheese cloth the more green butter I saw floating to the top. Once it was done I stuck it in the freezer for a few hours. I am impatient so I pulled it out after like 2 hours and the middle was jelled but not totally solid like the rest......So im gettin out the butter as best I can....remembering to scrape off the brown on the bottom...In my haste + being stoned I spill most of this brown ganj water all over me......So now im mildly irritated and I stink. I take off the stinky clothes , shower then I go grab the brownie mix and....................... IT SAYS USE OIL~~~~SO NOW AT 11.11 AT NIGHT I MUST GO LOOK FOR A BROWNIE MIX THAT I CAN USE BUTTER OR IN MY CASE MARGERINE. Maybe this is gods way of telling me to just SMOKE IT!

BTW, you can use butter instead of cooking oil in any brownie recipe... The ratio is 1 for 1.
