So I got a parking ticket a week ago for parking too close to a fire hydrant. It is for $51 but I really don't feel like paying it. Does anybody know what will happen if I do not pay the ticket? Can the popo even find me if they only have my license plate number?
Thanks

You have to check out the procedure for your county. It varies substantially.

Yea but the only thing they can do is suspend your license, put a warrant out for your arrest which would only be enforced if you ever got pulled over, or they might just send you a bill. More than likely not but I'd check it out of I were you......good luck mate I'd take care f it now b4 it becomes a 300 reinstatement fee.

just pay the goddamn bill. imagine if there was a fire and nobody was saved cause the fire truck couldnt reach the hydrant, it would be your fault. if u don't pay it, they'll send u a notice and throw a warrant at you which puts u in deep shite, then they'll charge u even more.

Im pretty sure they would still be able to get to the fire hydrant.. they would just be a lil inconvenienced, I mean shit, there isnt a fire hydrant within a hundred feet of my apartment, seems a like the cop just wanted to be a dick. And he succeeded.

i let go a few tickets cause i had the "fuck them" attitude and they never caught up to me, 5yrs passed and i needed to renew my license and you can on;y guess what i was told at the RMV........pay those tickets or no license.

needless to say they cost me over double what they would have been if paid on time and over 400.00 left my wallet that day on fines alone.

Pay the ticket. If you don't, they can stop you from doing everything from renewing your drivers' license or license plates to checking out a library book in your municipality. And normally when you don't pay a ticket, the fines increase and the municipal court for the municipality to whom the fine was due issues a bench warrant. That's a warrant for some unfinished business between you and the court (the judge sits on "the bench," which is where that name comes from). It's not a warrant that allows them to search your house, but the next time you get pulled over or ticketed for something else, they see you have a bench warrant on your record and off you go to jail. For something that was totally preventable. In the end, you'll end up paying a lot more money, and possibly sacrificing some freedom, than if you just suck it up and pay the fine now when it's low.

exactly that's what I'm saying. I wasn't even blocking the hydrant....i was just 'too close to it'. I'm a very poor college student and $51 is a lot of money to me.

I guess I will just pay it if it ends up being more later. I was wondering if I could get away with not paying it.I mean, would the governement really have to be such a bitch over $50?

You have a right to contest the ticket (in court), feel free to. You have nothing really to lose except the time you must spend going to court for it. The cop wins too in a way because he doesn't have to work that day, he gets to go to court too. It's my understanding that the worst case scenario is you have to pay it, nothing else bad will happen...

Unless you don't pay and ignore the issue, then see birdgirl's post =)

just pay the 51 bucks man, besides thats a steal for a fine like that, in certain zones parking in front of a fire hydrant can be a couple hundred. you'll bring more trouble by not paying it

Ya im in a situation like that now too. I drive my cousins car to work everyday and he got a parking ticket for $55. The plates are expired and i went to renew them and they wouldnt let me cause of the unpaid ticket. So ya it does matter. Just pay it dude.

in my city if it is your first offense for the year, they would dismiss the ticket. try talking to the popo, you would be suprised at how nice some of them are. key words "some of them."
