Favorite video game genre

What's your favorite type of game to play and why?


Mine would definitely by rpg/mmorpg. I love being thrown into a completely different world and falling in love with my character that I will be leveling for months. Meeting new people to quest and raid with is one of the best things in a game.

Second choice would be fps.

I usually like Action/Adventure and Action/RPG titles the most. A grand epic adventure but still fast enough pace to keep things interesting and often an interesting story to boot. Examples of these would be games like The Legend of Zelda, Blood Omen, Vagrant Story, Diablo, Phantasy Star Online, Kingdom Hearts.

After that my tastes fall into FPS's. The are heavily action packed but many of them are very atmospheric and contain some good B rated storylines.

I think you may have oversimplified a few choices there in your poll. There's Action, and Adventure games and then there is Action/Adventure titles. Legend of Zelda is an Action/Adventure for instance, but Devil May Cry is just a pure Action title. RPGs are varied as well, you have the standard RPG like Final Fantasy, you have Action/RPGs like Vagrant Story and Kingdom Hearts and you have Western RPGs like Morrowind or Oblivion on top of them you have MMORPGs.. Vastly different styles of games.

For me, RPG/MMORPG. Then probably a FPS. I love World of Warcraft and Counter-Strike.

I voted shooter, i love online shooters, realistic ones. Then sports, then mmorpgs, if i have time.

But that's why I asked if people wouldn't mind stating why they chose what they chose.

The legend of zelda is an amazing game. Definitely in my top 5. And kingdom hearts was pretty good. Did you play the second one?

First would be FPS's. Day of Defeat and Counter Strike.

Second MMORPG's. Runescape, looking for other f2p rgp's, tried afew of them and never got into them.

Deep RPG's, deep FPS's, some RTS games.

By deep I mean the story and cast must be grand. Oblivion and BioShock come to mind.

i do have to say tho, LoZ:OoT is one of my all time, top 5 favorite games in existance.... i must've beat that game 10 times or more by now... (although i've started plenty more i never ended up finishing it :p)

I don't really know what category to put my favorite game in. Manhunt so i picked action adventure. that game is so bad ass. I know I've beaten 15 times, on every difficulty. I also hate Jack Thompson.

I used to be huge into MMORPGs and RPGs in general, but the lack of them lately has really turned me away from the genre. I used to play WoW like a fiend a year or so ago. I'm waiting for Warhammer Online, but definitely my favorite genre at the moment is First Person Shooters and Third Person Shooters. I've been having a blast with Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas on my 360 lately.

I cant narrow it down to just one genre, but if I were stranded on an island with nothing but a playable game system of some type I'd have to choose a game like one of the GTA games, those have a near infinite replay factor.
So does that count as Action/Adventure or what?

mmorpg. i'm going back to ffxi and starting over soon. probably tuesday. i also play css and jedi academy when i'm bored. and even runescape at complete suicidal boredom.

Action games, stuff like GTA. Also sports games, Pro Evo, Tony Hawks.

I HATE rpg's. IMO they're the worst genre.
