Question.

I would like to germinate some seed for an upcoming grow. My plan to is grow in clay rock (hydroton)

What would be a good medium to germinate seeds in - that I can also use in / transplant into the hydroton when it's time ?

Doesn't make sense to germinate in soil &/or rockwoll then move them into hydroton. I also think it would be difficult to germinate in clay rock.

No one germinates in hydroton, your either going to buy Rockwool, Grow plugs, or Rapid rooters. then your going to germinate either in a paper towel that is kept dark damp and warm, or you can throw them in a cup of water. Once the tap root sticks out your going to place it in one of the afore mentioned mediums wait for it to root and then your going to stick it in your "clay rocks".

Thanks pete... Which medium do you prefer?

I was thinking coco and pearlite mix in a small 1" basket. When roots show - move 1" basket into bigger basket with hydroton.

Can I transplant rockwool directly into hydroton &/or can I transplant coco plugs into hydroton ?

Both can be transplanted in to hydroton, I personally use grow plugs. Rockwool needs to have its ph adjusted before use, with the grow plugs which look like little plugs of soil do not need to be ph adjusted and just like rockwool they will hold the perfect amount of liquid. Also grow plugs are cheaper than rockwool.

Just put them in a plug, don't waste your time with a basket when there that small, transplant them after roots are showing threw the plug.
