I have been smoking weed for several months now, and I have begun to realize that weed really does affect the mood of a person. I am generally alot less moody and angry when I smoke weed, and having had depression for several years I think that weed does make a difference in being happy? Do u guys think weed as a medicine for depression is practical? Also, does weed make the person feel happier in general?

I get elated when I smoke, just the fact that I am about to get high makes me happy. Nothing really irritates me when I am high too, unless when I offer to smoke a joint out of my stash and somebody says no. THat is the only thing someone can do to be a buzzkill.

mmm nice vibes in here. i concur. I think if every one had something as gratifying and comforting as herb to look forward to at the end of the day, there'd be a lot less unhappy people in the world. What other drug provides such euphoria and comes with absolutely no emotional downer? It can also be a cure for greed cuz it makes you content with less

ANd yes I think if someone is afflicted with chronic depression cannabis is a practical and poignant medicine. I don't think it's good to smoke weed to relieve natural negative emotions though, the kind that we all go through, just as i'm troubled by the idea of when someone gets dumped they might have a tendency to drown away the pain with alcohol for example.

I couldn't agree more. Stupid little stuff doesn't bother me as much if I've been smoking recently. I'm just generally in a better mood.

Listen to Granny... she knows what she says...

Anyway, for me weed works wonders on sadness... before i start to smoke, i was a depressive person, i would be sad for no reason at all, and also would be very angry for the smallest annoyance...

Then... i started to smoke... and my life changed completly... for FAR BETTER! When i was a newbie, the mere thought of smoking would make me laugh... ah... good times... how i miss them... :stoned:

Anyway, now, after 3 years of smoking, im a very happy person. I laugh at most things, im very relaxed and peaceful... its almost impossible for me become angry, like i used to be in the past... and its very hard for me to stay sad more than the time needed to burn one... since its some sativa, of course.
Some days ago i did made the sad discovery that pure indicas makes me somewhat depressed, so since then i only smoke strains with at least some sativa in it (or then i microwave the indica for making it more sativa-like).

All in all... weed makes me happy. Sometimes, very happy. Sometimes, awesomely (does this word exist in english?) happy. Thats why i love her so much... My love is all for you, Mary Jane... :rastasmoke::stoned::jointsmile:

I'm finding (because I'm taking a break from weed for about a month for college) that it did help cheer me up, but also helped hold me back if that makes sense.

I know this isn't / won't be the case for everyone, but I've noticed that while smoking everyday (at least once, but sometimes up to four or five times) has somewhat dimmed my emotions, both good and bad. I will definitely agree that it helped me battle my depression, and it did a damned good job at it, but it also dimmed my other emotions. I'd get stoned and not care about much, my drive faded and I didn't do anything substantial with my life (note: I'd get stoned and be VERY active, just not with anything that would deal with actually improving my life. No loafing around while high, but nothing productive either).

Now that I'm well into my break, I've noticed my drive and energy has returned, but I'm no longer depressed what so ever, I'm very happy go lucky again =P So for me, I guess weed makes me unmotivated. I've come to the conclusion that when I do start smoking again, I'll likely only do it on the weekend, or at special events. I love going through life with green tinted glasses :D but I've also realized there's a time and a place...but that's just me. Granny certianly seems to be a lifetime smoker and she seems happy as can be, I guess it's different for everyone.

(Hopefully I will not have everyone saying that it's "my fault" for not being motivated while being stoned all the time, nothing against weed...it's great, just makes me unmotivated to do worthwhile things :D )

def could be used to treat depression, but think about what would happen if you miss some doses, you would be much more depressed than u were in the beginning .....guess thats why u gotta stay high ahhaha

Weed dragged me back from the fire.. from pure naive irrationality and depression. It's amazing what it's done for me. The frustrating thing is that I can't openly credit weed for my turnaround, it would just create hassle for me. Some of the laws of this country... fuck. :(

I struggled a long time trying to get over the guilty feelings I had about using pot. The drug war propaganda really did a number on me. I honestly believed I was doing something shamefull. Then I started to research facts about marijuana and I found they supported my own experiences. I realized this medicine that helps make me the person I want to be is not dangerous or evil. It is a miracle plant. Now marijuana is a sacrement for me and I am proud to say I use it. It is perhaps the most positive force in my life.

Chris, You OBVIOUSLY have never been stopped by a cop when you were stoned out of your gourd while holding an ounce (in my bra)! Stress is most definitely possible when stoned! And yes, I got away with it! ;) As soon as we got home, we rolled one to stop our shaking! LOL - Granny:hippy:

Whenever I've had a bad day and I'm feeling really stressed there really isn't anything better than calling up a friend, rolling up a jay and chilling the fuck out. It not only relaxes me but it gives me better perspective into my life and myself than any shrink ever could. When I'm lifted life slows down, my problems are all solvable and I can't imagine life being any better than it is at that exact moment.

If everyone smoked a little weed every now and then, I don't doubt for a minute that the world would be a easier place for all of us to live in.

Even a day or two after smoking, if I decide to take a break, I am still feeling positive vibes. Weed is great medicine, and I use it not only to combat manic phases, but depressive ones too.

I found that smoking daily leads to depression and smoking in moderation ( once a week) leads to a more positive outlook on life, and more :stoned: every time I smoke

Getting high always puts me in a great mood, I feel really at peace with things. It really is a great medicine and antidepressant, however, I think it works best (at least for me) only in moderation. When I get high I generally feel great about my current state of being, which can lead to me being unproductive because I feel that the satisfaction of completing something productive, such as study and get a good grade, couldn't be any better than how I already feel. Or at least it wouldn't be worth the trouble to achieve it when I am already on cloud 9. I know that many people can smoke throughout their day and live normal, productive lives, but for me I have to keep it moderate to maintain balance. So, I save smoking as the last thing I do in a given school/work day or for time when I can completely relax. I find this balance to work best for me. :)
