Hi, I just wanted to let a request be known. I have been noticing a lot of cuss words that I don't like viewing all the time and I couldn't find a word filter option. I was hoping somehow you could put that option into the website that would filter out somehow unwanted words. I would really really appreciate it.

Thanks for listening

refer to my avatar. it's a way of expressing myself and it will never change.

although, for this idea to work and not piss off countless others and/or start a whole new riot over changes, perhaps a simple 'filter' should be available in the user cp option, to let the user choose to have words filtered or not (And what words) although i don't really see the problem...

i mean, in blatant honesty, if you're offended by cussing (not at you, just general use), you've got alot more problems then worrying about what people on the internet are saying.

Words. Just words.

Infact, if you research some of the "naughty" words you'll find they have amazing pasts.

The C word has amazing history - it USED to be a good thing! Roads where named after it and all sorts.

But again, it's just a word.

if you think a post contains un-necessary language, or any other violation, click on the 'report Post' icon in the top-right corner of the box, it's the red-edged triangle icon ... then, a Moderator can take a look at it, and determine if it's offensive ... (I have a terribly bad habit of cussing in person, but I manage to restrain myself in print) ... :smokin:

Excessive cussing isn't looked upon favorably.
Cheerful exuberance is tolerated but any cussing directed at another member will result in an infraction.
I don't know what else to tell you; try not to take offense at cussing not directed at yourself personally, okay?
This is an unusually polite online community already.

I hope nobody took me the wrong way.

I wasn't saying censor it for everybody. A lot of message boards have word filters in them. I'm not trying to push my beliefs on others I was just suggesting that the word filter option be put into the user panel so people can turn it on if they want.

Yah man that was a perfectly good suggestion, not a terrible idea either, well stated. Personally no swearing bothers me, I swear like and drunken Irishman myself, but you've opened my eyes a bit here in the sense that there are people who don't appreciate it.. (and can be sensible about raising it as a personal issue lol)

If you use firefox, you could probably get a plug-in that censors swearing.

I know that on another message board that i frequent, that you can block entire users posts from showing up. So if there's a poster that you really don't care for, and you're viewing a message that they've posted, it just comes up "You have blocked X user's posts, click here to see".

So yeah, if there's no remedy available directly on the cannabis.com forums, try and see if you can find some filtering software. :D

I don't feel like outing them by name, but about a month ago I had enough of said member. he was the only person I've negatively repped, after neg repping me for no reason, he took me down two points. So I put him in the red and told him he'd actually have to be nice to people to get his rep back. he turned it off :p

Hardcore Newbie,

thanks for your suggestion for the filtering software. I tried and tried and tried to search for some good software (hopefully freeware) that would work as a word filter but I couldn't find anything.

I ended up doing what you said and downloading firefox and I got the procon add on. I'm still tinkering with it but it seems to be not working, blocking some of the same word out, while other are left unblocked. There's another filter for greasemonkey so I'm going to try to download that.

Hmmm, I can't say i know exactly how the software works, but if I were to make the software, there'd be a few lists of words and levels of tolerance, but there would also be a place to add words and variations. If I didn't want to see the word "Frank" in my browsing, I should be able to put that, and also determine whether it's case sensitive or not. if I knew anything about programming I'd make one for you :p

:rasta:With the firefox procon you have to create a white list along with a banned word list. I use it on my jump drive for firefox and you have to literally build your data base. Once you get it done it works great.

The software for this forum actually has a word filtering option. You can not only outright block words, you can have it change words so, like, if I type "damn" it comes out "darn" in my post.

But this is an admin function and, as far as I know, it is an all-or-nothing option; it either has to apply to the entire forum or nothing - it can't be activated by individual users.

Weird, huh?

Confine those comments to sexuality please.
That goes for both of you.

I was giving feedback on her avatar! :D

On a serious note, that's just ridiculous. This is a PERFECT EXAMPLE of overmoderation. I'm sure who ever deleted the comment, misunderstood it and was too quick to delete it. Me saying wow at her avatar is NOT means of deletion no matter what forum. How many compliments have you recieved stinky on other threads that are still up? It wasn't a sexual comment, I just said WOW at her avatar. Sorry, you haven't justified deleting it. This site is OUT OF CONTROL!

And please don't accuse me of trying to hook up because i implied that she was attractive. I'm happily married and faithful to my wife.Mods are TAKING ADVANTAGE of their status and it's becoming sickening. I know what you will say, if you don't like it get out. I keep hearing mods telling members that. I know I have that option, and don't need to be reminded of that.

I already pointed this out to fakeboobsrule, but he said I was way off base on it. So tell me, if you guys have guidelines to follow, which rule did I offend for means of deletion? It's clear to me that mods delete what they feel like it, and it's bringing this site down in my opinion! :(

stinkyattic

First off, I was not the moderator who deleted those posts.
Second, we don't need to justify our actions.
Third, as I have ALREADY said, comments of a sexual nature, as well as other chitchat, don't belong in the 'feedback and suggestions' forum.

Pass That Shit
09-04-2007, 04:13 PM
Like I said, my comment wasn't sexual at all. Why don't you repost it and let others decide if it was sexual? If the mod who deleted it has any balls (or flowers), they will step up to the plate!

You have cleary pointed out that I was correct in my comments to fakeboobsrule, you just said that you don't have to justify your actions, therefore you guys can delete what ever you feel like it, cause it obvious that there weren't any violations in my deleted post.

stinkyattic
09-04-2007, 04:19 PM

Any balls? This is absolutely ridiculous. You don't need to be insulting.

Pass That Shit

I don't feel like dropping it.

If the post was deleted, there must have been a violation, WHAT WAS IT?

I'm not gonna waste my time posting if you guys delete posts cause you just feel like it! I know, I know, don't post right?

I don't think it's fair to members that take their time posting, to then have mods delete them for no reason!

PassThatShit, I have already warned you not to pursue this line of argument.
Suffice it to say you do not see the whole picture here.

I don't know why you are so ripped up about the deletion of a comment that probably took you 3 seconds and fewer brain cells to write... it wasn't as if it was a long, carefully thought-out argument like the ones you are obviously capable of making, and which, if deleted, you would be justified in being upset over. And I would agree with you.... IF you put it in the appropriate forum.

THIS IS THE FEEDBACK SECTION!!!!!!!!!!!

How many freaking times do I need to write that? Entire THREADS here are deleted all the time simply because the discussion is over and they are no longer necessary to the site.
This isn't a censorship issue, or even one with a rule violation. Please read the sticky about appropriate forums and sections which is posted at the top of the general lounge.

The only way I know is to give it with a rep... which makes communication very slooooow as you have to rep about 20 people to make another reply... but I understand the point.. people would be trying to get new hookups and buy and sell their wares which is NOT GOOD on this kind of forum.. kinda like saying the mj word in a smoke shop. In fact about a week ago I was trying to find Cannabis Culture magazine (It's not in the bookstores here anymore for some reason, ARGH!), and I was asking in the smoke shop if they knew where to get a magazine with the initials CC and the second word is Culture... They appreciated my tact. ;)
