I went fishing today, I have been fishing alot this summer in june I got a new/used bass boat, she need some wiring and that was no problem. However I have already got her stuck and It burnt out my water pump impeller, but that was only 20 bucks. Any way Its funn today I got about 30 pounds of fish. Got 4 Largemouth largest was 23in. and I also got 9 cat fish all around 15-20in. I just sold a john boat I had yesterday, to a guy that had never been on a boat(reson I went out today, I wanted to go to another lake but he just wanted to see how to do things), I sold him my lightest outboard which I know regret. I got a 12 foot raft that I like to use and that little engine its perfect for it. I like using the raft for traveling, instead of hauling a boat around the country I can through the deflated raft and engine in the trunk of a small car or just ship it and fly. Its funn though cant wait to get a set of scuba gear. Got a little fish finder that mounts on to a rod.......its so dope makes fishing at any time of the day more interesting, but right around when their jumpin. That fish finder helps to find the big ones.............FISH ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Inboard or outboard engine? And petrol or Diesel?

Petrols are only good for outboards, inboard petrols are terrible.

Diesels are best for inboard, although i supose the diesel outboards [rare] aint bad.

If it's a diesel it'd have enough torque to move - but probably not enough to have good control in rough waters.

Whatever it is though, for a 14ft you'd only need 40-50 HP. I mean, like i said before, the 25 will do it fine, but with a bit more power comes a bit more control, especially against the wind.

Lip it's a 25hp petrol yammy outboard. it just seams like it hasn't got enough power but i have been told that whats on there is good enough, just wanted a second opinion. i have been told it's a tiny fishing boat not a speedboat lol, thanks for your help m8 i'm going to leave as it is for the moment but if a reasonable priced 50hp comes along i'll probally get it.

Thats plenty I sold a 5HP gas (petro) 14footer the other day and that was enough. That small of a boat cant get into any real rough water anyway. 5hp went about 10 knots with 250lbs load on calm water. 25hp should be good for even getting outta a small break.

I had a 14 ft fishmaster. with a 7.5 honda motor on it. two swivel seats' navagation lights, spotlights for nightfishing. A garmin fishfinder, just got rid of it. It was ok just to small for the wife and I. It was ok for small lakes and the river. But nothing else. We use to have a pontoon, and I think we will go back to that. in case you didnt see this weedmaster heres a good sized carp i caught the other day about 23 lbs. Released him of course, dont care for carp, but fun to reel in.

That's a good way of doing it - i mean, 40 - 50 hp is over kill, but because [as far as i can remember] you do sea fishing the extra power might come in useful if things get abit choppy.

Although 25hp on a 14 footer will do you good. If it's fiberglass [im assuming it is] it'd almost certainly be alright - even if it does get choppy you'd be able to power through, just slowly. But then again, when im on a boat i like going slow - very relaxing.

I'll keep a look out for ya, cant promise anything though because the good ones are normally bloody expensive, but my mate Adi might be able to sort a fairly new one out for cheap. His back gardens littered with outboards. Actually, he's got some in his house too!

Take it easy mate. :D

LIP, cheers mate. your right it is fibreglass, i only take it up the river and out about 1/4 mile out to sea, if that but i got given the boat from a wealthy old boy i've helped out in the past who all he ever did was once in a while start it up, but he never left the mooring lol, i think he was scared of it.it was imported from florida, i keep it on a trailer round a mates, next time i go round there i'll take a couple of pics.
PHATTY i see that the other day, thats a lovely common carp. i like the fight carp put up, i only use 10LB line when carping so that would of been great fun, 30LB is a speciman thats not a million miles away great fish mate:thumbsup:
