specs: Spare corner of bedroom. Gh waterfarms x 4...2 different rez's cause two different ages. Both these plants are just starting week 8 (day 49 today) I have a cool tube with 1kw that is sitting about 8-10 inches above these plants with an oscillating fan that is keeping the grow area temps at 78.

I'm using Botanicare stuff....CalMag, Pro Bloom, Hydroplex, Cannazyme, LK and Sweet to between 130-1400. The only difference between this grow and my last one is that in this grow I am using hydroton vs higromite rocks.

The bb has obviously got a nitrogen def (which I've never seen in my hydro setup before btw) but its the CC (plant with the lighter) that really worries me. She's growing great and looks happy but all the "older leaves" seem to be having problems. Here's a pic of both plants today.
I'll post pics of the leaves in the next thread.....sorry but have dial up and takes forever to upload pics.

Here are some close ups of the individual leaves......and yes....my very first thought was spider mites. But here's the catch.....I can find NO evidence of bugs....no mites (w/15x mag) nothing moving around at ALL, no webs.....no sign of ANY abnormalities on the buds and bud leaves. All I am seeing it on is the older leaves AND it seems to be much more common in the leaves the seem to get hit by the oscillating fan often. When I looked at the back of the leaves (and I'll post a few more in the next post) it really appears as though the leaf is being BURNED through....that and the edges of the leaf as well.

This whole thing seems to have come up in the last week but I am seeing changes fairly fast the last few days so I really could use everyone's thoughts and expertise.

Is it mites? Am I just in ridiculous denial? Should I spray these plants immediately? (I have Fox Farms Don't Bug Me) and keep spraying them until harvest? I have pets in the same room so I cannot put in the no-pest strips that seem to work w/mites.

Any thoughts, tips appreciated...Thanks.. :)

I believe you have a minor potassium deficiency ... it starts in dots like that, and on the edges of the leaves, as it gets worse ... Revised: The Complete Guide To Sick Plants,pH and Pest Troubles - PlanetGanja.com (http://www.planetganja.com/highsociety/showthread.php?t=8778) ... that's how I diagnosed mine, when I had the same spots ... 'fixing' it won't restore the affected leaves, and it's not a 'plant-killer', mostly cosmetic, until it gets severe ... :smokin:

You do NOT know how glad I am to hear NOT say.....you idiot....of COURSE ITS MITES AND ANY NOOB COULD SEE THAT.

That would make sense with nitrogen def going in the blueberry...although Im not sure why.....ph is good and plenty of nutes.....perhaps with the cooltube lower the water my plants are in are getting too warm? X-C told me (wisely..I'd never have thought of it) to check leaf temps with the cool tube on which I wil do once the room is back to normal.

The two main diffs between this grow and my others (and hadn't seen this problem) are the cool tube and the hydroton.

Thanks for help reaper and X-C :)

Ps....Just came back from IRs thread.....LOW HUMIDITY can cause K def.....mines in the 20's....I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!!

I took leaf readings as X-C suggested and the affected leaves have temps in the low 80's...82,83 (none under 80)so I 've pulled the light back also.

Another thought....I was going to start flushing both these plants this weekend. Should I wait if there are defs or something and if I do wait...how long should I wait? I usually use FloraKleen for 3ish days then straight ph'd water but I'm not at all sure I should do this with these plants.

Ideas?? Options? Solutions??

thanks.....

Hey W/H ,
I read somewhere max. photosynthesis happens at about 78 deg. so you really wern't that hot yet . If all trichs are still clear you might wanna wait on the flush ?

Last grow we tried something dif. and gave those 2 snl x nev. 2 weeks of just plain ph water at the end just to see if we could induce N def. etc... so plants would use up stored nutes , turn yellow and start droping leaves like a dirt plant does .

I don't know if this stalled flowering at all ? But it sure as hell made it alot easier to manicure them - as they were already 1/2 naked when chopped .

Dbl. thumbs up on the bigger cola pic. w/ the lighter in it .
Thats some crazy gooey lookin goodies Sis .:thumbsup:

Peace

I agree that is a K def- the pattern isn't consistent with mites- you would have seen some on the leaf undersides- nice call on posting those pics too.
You will certainly need to flush since you are going to want to get the excess N out; perhaps foliar feed (avoiding th ebuds) with micro to keep the problem from getting any worse.
That bud shot is luscious!!!

Thank you oh knowledgable growheads for making my day and not mites... The pattern is definitely more clear on the leaves today but I'd have absolutely FLIPPED if I had mites and had not noticed it until now.

Stinky....what exactly would you reccomend I use to foliar feed....like the name of it? I'm so zero with that stuff. Thanks :)

PS....the pattern definitely is following two spots....where the light is the brightest AND where the fan is hitting the leaves often....both sections of low humidity. Weird huh?

Foliar with micro...
GH Micro is fine for that. Just hit the affected leaves, staying far away from the buds, or, since you are so close to harvest, sit back, relax, and fughetaboudit.

Thanks for the tip Stinky....I'm not going to do it on this one since it is so close, as you said, but will keep the stuff on hand for the future.

Question: At what point do you decide to treat or not treat....obviously close to harvest....but HOW close? What would be your deciding factor on whether to foliar feed or not?

stinkyattic
08-27-2007, 05:11 PM
Any remaining problems fewer than 2 weeks from harvest, with the exception of heat stress and pH imbalance, I ignore.

My decision to stop foliar feeding is made when I feel that I can no longer do it without making contact with the buds. I keep a very small hair-spray bottle for foliar feeding or treating for insects in the flowering stages.

Headline--------Where is Weedhound?

dateline: future, Cann.Com.
Authorities are still clueless about the disappearance of the world famous Weedhound. After weeks of investigation, there are still no leads. Conspiracy theorists have offered possibilities from alien abduction to spontaneous sink-holes, yet none of these theories have shown to have any basis in fact.
It is rumored that the Weedhound had a long standing feud with Mother Earth and specifically her son Dirt. Authorities will investigate the dirty details.
