Marijuana in pill bottle found outside is linked to a friend apartment

Hey everyone, I don't expect to get legal advice from this site, but I would like to share a small situation a friend of mine is in and get your feedback.

We live in a gated apartment complex, she and her boyfriend live in one building and I live in another. Today, the maintenance man (who I'm friendly with) had pulled us aside while walking up to the apartment, to let us know that they found a pill bottle outside in the grass with marijuana in it and that it was linked back to her apartment somehow. He couldn't give details and was very brief about the situation. Her and I walked inside and started to think where this bottle could have came from. After a few mins we figured it had to be her father, who smokes and keeps it in a pill bottle.

I'm trying to find out if that bottle will warrant the complex to get a search warrant. Granted it is her father who doesn't live there and we can't control what goes in and out of his pocket, but a friend of mine is telling me that they have the right to get a search warrant and search the apartment for more drugs which they will only find pipes and shake.

Is this true? Do you think they will go through all that trouble over a dime of crippy found outside in the grass, and in a pill bottle with her fathers name?

We live in Florida and where we live is populated with college students all over.

For some reason I don't see any decent judge approving a warrant over that amount. Getting a search warrant because you found 2 grams of pot outside in the grass seems very silly to me.

No way in hell will they get a search warrant based on that. They might decide to investigate further though.

Warrants have been issued on less..... When I was a kid, mom found a few stems and about 4 seeds in a little plastic baggy I had left on the couch.

She called the po and detectives came and finger printed the bag... then they went and harassed everyone my mom told them i hung out with

Well if all they could find is pipes/shake move that shit out if your worried. If thats all you got and worried about, move it! Till its safe! Smoke joints in the house for a lil they never hurt =)

Well here in TX if the cops find marijuana you go to jail. I would never be so stupid to carry around a bottle of drugs with my name on it lolololol

Umm- no.

The landlord can consent to the search of common areas within the apt. building, but not for searches of a residential unit leased to another- it is considered the renter's domicile.

you are all wrong. They dont need a warrant, if it is an apartment complex. All they have to do is talk to the landlord and its the landlord who consents to a search not the renters.

Have you ever read the fine print on your lease? Didn't think so.

A legal lease keeps even the LANDLORD out without prior notice. I'm a landlord. I know what I'm talking about. Please if you don't know the facts, don't confuse others with misinformation. Thank you.

I really don't think cops care about weed as long as you're not dealing it.. I've been searched and caught with weed on me only to have it returned without further questions.. Then again.. I live in CA.

My friend got caught with a scale.. Didn't turn out too well for her.
