View Full Version : Grow or No Grow?

I have always wanted to grow since I started smoking and now I am finding it hard financialy to keep smoking. First off I live with my parents and I know thats one of the biggest reasons not to grow but my parents rarely go in my room and NEVER go in my closet so I was wondering if there are any ways to eliminate the smell like with a plastic tent setup or something? I'm only looking to grow one plant and the closet is 7'x6'x2' and I was planning to only use half the closet so I guess the growing area would be 7'x3'x2'. I know if caught my parents wouldnt think to involve the authorities, they would probably just get mad and make me destroy the plants and I'm 21 so they cant really ground me. So if someone who grows could give their thought on if one plant can be hidden in a closet to grow I would appreciate it.....and if your just gonna comment on how stupid it is to grow in my parents house save your self the time I know its a stupid idea but I dont really have money to keep buying so I'm just trying to consider all my options.

Do they own the house? If so, I wouldn't recommend it. If you did somehow get busted (electrical fire or something), they could lose their home. They probably wouldn't, but it'd be a hell of a risk, and it's not really fair to put their home at risk for some pot.

Is it *possible*? Yes. Is it moral? I don't think so.

well i think your main worries would be : noise from fans, smell, paranoia, lights leaks and the need for constant replacement of stale air with fresh air plus will it actually be worth it in the end for one plant?, you'll probably smoke your harvest in about 2 weeks and then have to do it all over again.

I always have 1 box fan and 1 oscilating(sp?) fan going in my room so I got the noise thing covered, If I could keep the smell to a minimum I think I could get by cause I smoke in my room daily just with my door closed (no towel under the door or groove toube) so it always has a hint of weed in the air, I would see and fix any light leaks at night, and would an air purifier refresh the air and remove the smell? and about the small harvest, how much do you actually get off of one plant? people have told me they get 2-3 ounces off a small plant and I could put 2 small plants one on top of another since my closet is pretty tall, and if I could get atleast 6 ounces it would last me a good while.

6 ounces ? lol i don't think so maybe 2 or 3 at the most but obviously you've already made your mind up so do it and see what happens

I havent 100% made up my mind yet I'm just trying to think of options because I cant really afford to buy and I cant move out and I dont want to quit. I know people that have and still do grow in their parents house so I was just wondering if it is possible to hide the smell and my closet was the safest place I could think of because its full of junk and me or my parents never really go into it. How much weight do you think I would get off of 2 plants?

First and foremost, you should never grow in your parents home without their consent! You would be endangering the people who have given you life, and maybe the ONLY people you can always count on. If you want to smoke, work extra and pay for it or move out and grow it. I also have to add that the disrespect towords your parents, not only affects you're rep, but the rest of the pot smoking community.
I'm sorry to have to break all this to you, but thats just how it is.
Good Luck:thumbsup:

I'm not trying to disrespect my parents I just was looking for options other than buying and wanted to know if it is possible to hide the smell because others grow in their parents home (and I know just because one person does it doesnt make it right). I have been looking for a job for the past few moths and still am looking. But I dont see how me trying to fix a problem affects the rest of the pot smoking communtiy, I didnt try to grow at home and never actually disrespected my parents I was just asking a question.

I was just asking a question.

...and I was just answering one. In no way did I intend to belittle you, I just want you to understand that if you want respect, you've got to give it. What I meant is that ONE shady pothead can fuck up the already warped view of cannabis and it's users. Anti-marijuana activists thrive on the few misguided marijuana users, that DO STUPID SHIT!...my point (again) DONT DO STUPID SHIT:D

...and really what it comes down to is if you value pot more than your family, than what kind of person WOULD you be?

Don't grow in your parents house. General rule of thumb for respectable growers. Unless, of course, your parents say it is alright, then of course you can. First of all, you would need a pretty big closet. Second of all, to get the yield you desire, you would need very high-wattage lights that can cost hundreds of dollars, then at that, the electric bill would jump up $50 a month, possibly more. Then, for a closet, there are no reliable methods to neutralize a potent smelling plant, much less, a potent smelling plant with your desired yield. Then you'd have to pay for either soil or hydro equipment, many nutrient supplements, pesticides, etc.

Simply put: If you are not financially stable now, you will have a hard time growing. To add to that dilemna, you are in your parents house, and growing without their permission, or growing period, is risking their freedom. Not wise. Possible. Not without major hassles, but possible. Just not financially convenient or wise.

Thanks unkownfiggure for logistically explaining why I cant grow, I guess I was misinformed about the yeild of a plant and about the power bill I would of never even of thought of that, and you were the only one to actually answer my original question to if a tent would work or not.

Yeah, I ended up spending way more on my plants than I would have thought. Containers, lights, fertilizer, crap to build my grow room, a vent fan, timers, power strips, extension cords, bulbs, soil, seeds, insecticide, etc. I think I've spent about $400 on my setup so far, and it's a small one.

Granted, you can grow low-odor strains with fluorescent lights, or grow autoflowering plants, and you probably wouldn't even notice a change in your power bill, but you WILL end up spending more than you think on growing indoors.

Also got to remember that he wants more than two ounces off a plant. All fluorescent light grows I have seen have typically yielded 50 grams each plant on a hydro system (mind you, the bud was gooood) While those ARE good for one or two plant closet/cabinet grows, they aren't all that reliable as far as output in yield and quality.

@not_the_kitty: No problem. It's just better for you to be informed about every aspect, as I know getting caught with anything fucking sucks, much less an entire plant (which is committing a felony rather than just a possession misdemeanor)
