View Full Version : Went with the Volcano...

So getting a vape has been on my mind for awhile. I love weed, it's the smoking part that has always bothered me, both physically and with the thought of knowing I'm sucking on tar and various nasty compounds. Whipping up a batch of brownies oftentimes isn't practical, and to be honest I've had limited success with canna cooking in general.
Anyway, decided for my birthday I was allowed to splurge, so I went all out and got a Volcano from gotvape. Decided on going with the classic, as it was significantly cheaper and had an additional year of warranty coverage. I figure since it's been out for so long all the kinks in the design have likely been worked out.
My question for other users out there: what temp do you aim for when vaping? I've experimented a little with it so far, and can't tell if it's my inexperience - or the fact that the several times I heat it up I was using either crappy regs a friend brought over or my own, only-cured-for-2 weeks bagseed grow.
I was told 361 degrees F so that's what I've been aiming for. Anyone have anything they'd like to share for lil ol me?

Been considering a Volcano too, for the same reasons -- eliminate most of the gnarly unhealthy stuff from entering my lungs. So, while I have nothing to contribute information-wise, I do look forward to *your* assessment. Let us know how well it works, if it's a pain in the ass to deal with and/or clean, the quality of the buzz, whatever info you're capable of sharing after tooting on your Volcano. ;)

I posted just posted this in another thread..
I just got one, invited a couple of friend over the same day and we all helped setting it up and researching the minutia of it's operation. I was surprised by the size of the herb receptacle. One of my buds shredded some dry, almost brown regs with the awesome grinder that comes with the Volcano, and we put a layer inside about 2mm thick. Got 3 bags of haze off that load easy, and we were all feeling it but it wasn't like an immediate stoned feeling. Like idiots, we assumed we were doing something wrong and 'lathered, rinsed, and repeated.'
Well let me tell you cowboy....
I've smoked myself silly on a few occasions (like as in, way to much) and dread the nausea that comes along with it. Doing too much with a vape is entirely different! I was stoned stupid, but there was no sense of nausea, quite an odd experience. The munchies hit hard not soon after, and we were all giggling like idiots for awhile. The even stranger part was about an hour afterwards I had an almost scary second buzz kick in. It came on so fast I just sat there, eyes wide open in disbelief and the room started to spin. I had to excuse myself and go lay down for awhile, it was almost trippy I tell you.
But no nausea at all, and I slept like a baby that night. Anyway, I view that Volcano with a whole hell of a lot of respect now...
So no coughing or gagging on big hits like with a bong or something, but also no sudden rush of being high - which is likely due to the pathetic quality of herb we used. I didn't notice any "scorching" effect that others have mentioned in relation to using a vape either, I can only guess that's common when using a whip and drawing directly from the vape. Methinks the use of a large ballon disperses the heat discharged alongside the vapor.
Anyway, spoke with a friend last night and told her of my new acquisition. She's quite intrigued, and said she's now contemplating a special trip to Vermont to retrieve something dank enough to be worthy of the metal clad German beast. I think I'll reserve ultimate judgment until I get some real weed for it.

I have been using the Volcano now for over a year. I find that the 6.5 setting is the best. There is some adjustment on that: You have to consider how dry your product is. Generally though 6.5 is where you start. The Volcano does tend to kick in rather later, as compared to just smoking. When the volcano does kick in, look out!
You know what is so cool about the Volcano is the most wonderful taste! Did you notice that? The product has a like herbal sage like taste. You want to lick your lips for more of it!
I know about the second buzz kicking in. It happened to a friend of mine who used it for the first time. He said 'this thing isn't worth a shit' The next minute he was totally couch locked!
The Volcano, is very different , worth it,oh hell yes!

If you do not like all that 'crinkly' noise the Volcano bags make when they fill up? Go get some oven bags at the supermarket like those shake and bake bags. No noise at all.
Just helping on the vapes here.

I have not seen that one. So what is it? I did read somewhere that Volcano was going to come out with one with a digital readout? I do not really care about that 6.5 is too cool~

Have to concur with the esteemed Dr here, 6.5 (or maybe just hair below that) seems to be the ticket! The pics that come with the device leave something to be desired, as using haze density as the proper metric seems a bit subjective to me. Anyway, I've got that bad boy dialed in and I'm not touching it now! I've only had to brush out the chamber area once with the little brush provided. Quite the change maintenance-wise from nasty, smelly, well used bongs.
In other news, had two friends over to partake before we grilled some burgers. One of them, who shall remain nameless, drained the bag and then dropped it, nozzle straight down, on my tiled kitchen floor. The impact sent enough force into the solid valve to break off the 2 small bits that act as tension locks inside the nozzle.
MotherF&*^%$#@*!&!!!!
To make matters worse, he doesn't believe he really broke it (despite everyone watching him drop it and the vape now leaking when the bag is inflated), so he's pretty much skipping out on fixing the situation for the guy who fed him dinner, vaped him out, and hooked him up with free PC hardware and the subsequent installations necessary (all in the same day to boot). Haven't even owned the volcano for a month yet...ugh
I haven't known him that long, so I feel weird about confronting him about it. A replacement valve is 60 bucks, which while no small chunk of change is still far from an entire pay check or a kidney.
I hope he mans up and does the right thing without anyone having to put him on the spot. His dismissal of this is going to result in him not being a guest of mine for good. I can say with absolute honesty that if the positions were reversed, he would have already received a replacement alongside of an apology.
The moral of this story: don't invite classless schmucks over to enjoy your goodies.
Sorry, had to vent...
Edit: Oh and Jams, if by some chance you felt the need to pack up the Mrs. and sample Maine this summer/fall - Volcano test drives are on me! :smokin:

Thanks for the offer, and if I should ever get to Maine, I'm takin' you up on that! Or is that, 'I'm tokin' up with you on that!' Heh. ;)
I'd give the guy a week, then confront him. Sixty bucks is sixty bucks, and he created the necessity of spending it, so he should cough it up. I'm like you - if I did something like that to someone, I'd already have paid them and chalked it up to 'shit happens'. Not worth fighting about sixty bucks, but yeah, if he doesn't make good on moral responsibilities to friends, why *would* you want him around?

I'm pretty confidant you're gonna be thrilled. You get a smug feeling when you realize how toasted you can get without involving combustion. Also, forgot to mention this as well but - vapes make more sense if you're into top shelf herb btw. It stands to reason if you're going out of your way to acquire various tasty strains you should be consuming them in a manner which allows you to get the full flavor their genetics bestow. Taste is the vape's real appeal to the connoisseur; last night's unscheduled hang-out involved some rather citrus like dank, and everyone commented on it's flavor, even the guy who supplied it and has been rolling Js with it for more than a week!
Figured I should share that...

*rubs hands a la Mr. Burns* Exxxcellent... bring some Big Mama! ;)
The dude in question came up in conversation last night, and I found out some stuff that makes me feel slightly less pissed. In addition to being broke as hell, he's trying to move out of his dad's place "touts suite" and putting all available funds towards that endeavor. It seems his dad is an alcoholic and gets violent. Which explains the semi-shiner he had the first time we met. :( I almost feel like a dick now. Almost.
Anyway our common friend went to bat for me in a polite way to keep the issue in this guys head, which is how I came by some of this info. The gist of his response was something like 'Well as soon as I'm able, I'll see what I can do for the guy with the gigantic house and the Acura in the driveway.' But I've been assured he didn't say it like a dick. Hrmmm.
Whatever. After much contemplation I think I'm just going to brush this incident under the rug and chalk it up to bad luck. I don't think I want to let $60 bucks forever taint our relationship or be the cause of strife within our circle of friends, in the grand scheme of things it just ain't worth it. Maybe one day he'll surprise me, but for right now I'm content to let him deal with the bigger fish he has to fry.
I have to order more bags anyway... *sigh*

also vape your weed in the reccomended bag height limites. I notticed if you try to vape the weed while its pre heating it some how ruins it. I personally love the vape because it gets you high off small amounts of weed BUT you dont feal it as fast as if you were smoking but by the end of the session I always end up higher with the vape compared to just smoking it. Also I was getting sorta bored with the small bag thing so I attached about a 5 foot bag to my volcano and it ruins the taste of the weed if you over fry all the shit in one go and some how it dosent work as good. I like to start 5.5 on the first bag then increase it to 6 on second bag and then 6.5 and so on until I think theres no more thc left in the weed... its hard to explain when the weed is completely used up.... i find that just having the volcano over the course of a few months now just some how gave me the ability to tell when the shit is done being vpaed or not ... anyways yea.... temp also goes on what u are looking for. I notticed 5.5 gives the best taste but some ppl like 6.5 maybe because more active compunds get released on one time at a higher temp. I really dont kno lol. I juist like my system of the 5.5 then up the temp as each bag goes along. Some time u can even vape the shit out of the weed and if you put the tamp at 9.... just filter the vapour thru a bong and the temp at 9 will feal like its 6.0 again.... anyways im done typeing. time ot go find some weed and vape it peace. Sorry for bad spelling and crap. What can I say... im "lazy smoker7" lol.... to lazy to go back and fix all mistakes lol... happy vaporizing :)

How much weed do you use??
I find this very weird because people says that they dont normally use soo much weed and get really high. For me the high gets strong if I use a lot of weed in my session. Perhaps my accessories are dirty which I may need to get some new ones. I have owned the volcano vaporizer and I've only changed the bag twice and never got new accessories lol

I have never done that. You will find it interesting how many different flavors you get off the volcano as you change the temps.
You will also find many different tastes between different strains.
I have thought that the taste is so much different with a volcano because you cannot smell anything. It is all taste. Smell is a big part of taste. With the volcano there is no odor just the taste. You just want to lick your lips for more of the different taste.

It would depend on what you are vaping. You do not really need any new accessories. Keep the valves clean with alchol and put a new bag on if you get a leak. Also there is a filter on the bottom you should check now and then.

In light of the new information I would let it slide. As far as the comment about the gigantic house and Acura, I gotta agree with him. :D No offense intended in any way shape or form, as I aspire to hopefully have a gigantic house and an Acura or two in my driveway as well, but as someone who is currently in a very financially limited situation, I can see why the comment was made. Especially considering the home life this person is experiencing. I can also imagine that it was not meant to spite you in any way whatsoever, though I could be wrong. Your friend did say that it wasn't said as a dick, and I would go with that.
You are right in not letting what is ultimately a very tiny issue taint what could be a great friendship some time down the road. While it is the principle that matters more than $60, sometimes the greater thing to do is just let it go. I say you made a good call in your decision!

Thanks Mary :)
Now I'm really excited. I'm also looking forward to experimenting with different flavors like adding bubble gum or mints. Any recommendations for that?
Ermmm, actually my recommendation for those ideas is - don't. Bubble gum is made to be chewed, I think having the sweeteners and other ingredients melt into a thin, sticky liquid could jeopardize the integrity of your costly new toy. Same for the mints, unless you're mis-attributing what you heard someone say about using the plant spearmint. Throwing in a few ground leaves of fresh mint sounds downright tasty if you ask me, but I haven't tried it (yet). The mesh pads that come with the Volcano are for liquids, I guess you just lightly dunk them and vape away. There's probably lots of fun to be had with various tinctures, extracts, and possibly liquors. Anyone?
I'd be remiss not to mention this but I can't corroborate the notion of no skunky smell from using the vape. I'll stick to the disclaimer of Your Mileage May Vary depending on what you're loading, but there is definitely a residual odor involved - it's just not like the longer lasting smog-like effect you'd get if a 3ft bong being passed around.

Got my Volcano an hour ago. I must say I was skeptical about vaporizers in general. Even with all of the positive reviews part of me just didn't think they'd work. I just inhaled my 1st bag 10 minutes ago.
I R Intoxicated.
Got a question b4 I completely forget what I'm talkin about. I've got mine set to 6, but it makes me cough. Is it set too high or do I just have the lungs of a 3 month old baby?
