I have a nice little box in a completely dark place when lights are off however my problem is light leaking out during "on" time.

Does this have any negative effect on the grow during flower?

Nope, no prob, other than looking suspicious if anyone should get close enough to take a gander.

No worries except that if light can get OUT, how do you know it isn't getting IN? Move the box to a very dimly-lit location if you can to minimize light entry, or weatherstrip it.
