View Full Version : Using an Onion to control odor

My plants are starting to get stinky, even w/ the closet door closed, if I open the door to the room, it spreads halfway throughout the house. I read somewhere that slicing an onion up is a great way of clearing up a smelly cellar/basement. I would smell oniony for a day but after that it neutrilizes the smells. I quartered a yellow onion and stuck it in the grow closet, and it's cancelled the smell of the plants out completly, pretty cool. I know eventually I'll build a filter but its a great and cheap temporary fix.

To tell you where I got this whacked out idea, and that I'm not pulling it from my ass see:8 Surprising Household Deodorizers : RealSimple.com (http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple/gallery/print/0,22304,1590426,00.html)

sprinkling fresh coffee grounds, around a room will rid it of almost ANY odor, but the smell will return if the plants are still there ... good for fast de-odorizing, after taking a growroom down in a hurry ... :smokin:

Great!
I already use half an onion in my fridge to keep the odors away.

I'll bet your ice cubes smell fabulous. Remind me to only drink Bloody Marys if I ever come to brunch at your house....
