BAGHDAD, Aug 14 (Reuters) - At least 175 people were killed when three suicide bombers driving fuel tankers attacked a town, home to an ancient minority sect, in northern Iraq on Tuesday in one of the worst single incidents in the four-year-old war.

Iraqi army Captain Mohammad al-Jaad said at least another 200 people were wounded in the bombings in separate Yazidi neighbourhoods in the town of Kahtaniya, west of Mosul.

The attacks took place in the Sinjar district 70 miles west of Mosul and targeted houses of the Yazidi, a 350,000-strong secretive community whose beliefs are a mixture of Zotroastrian and Manichean beliefs predating Islam and Christianity.

Dhakil Qassim, the mayor of Sinjar said that al Qaida in Iraq were behind the bombings citing Kurdish government intelligence reports. The Sinjar area is largely under Kurdish control and is claimed as part of the historic Kurdish homeland from which Saddam Hussein sought to drive them.

"This is a terrorist act and the people targeted are poor Yazidis who have nothing to do with the armed conflict," Mr Qassim said. "Al Qaida fighters are very active in this area near the Syrian border."

P4B come on bro you know as well as i do the main reason for U.S forces in Iraq isnt because of Al Quada its because of OIL and Corporations making as much money as they can.Al Quada is their now because of the invasion.Your leaders have made you less safe because you invaded Iraq and if you Americans cant see that then there is no hope for your population. Then again most Americans think they live in a Democracy lol for if you did live in a Democracy you would have free health care by now which 2/3 of Americans want. But you live in a country where Corporations dictate what to do in the name of making money. You guys keep electing these privalaged elite who have the same platforms as each other, who come from the same high class schools as each other in the hopes that they will give you a bone but of course that will never happen. The elite only look after each other.Your elections have become the laughing stock of the world because you elect the same person over and over again. The next election is no different either the top canditates are basicly the same and the Corporate elite want it that way.Why dont you just skip the election and let the top 100 people who actually own your country pick who they want to win.Wait a minute THEY ALREADY HAVE LOL.....

Al queda is like a figment of the bush administrations brain. The people fighting in Iraq are just Arabs that hate America, call them what you will. The people that hit us on 911 were just Arabs that hate America, call them what you will. It always helps to put a name on your enemies, Krauts, Nips, dinks, slopes, remember. Name them, then you can fight them. Anytime they need a booster, they come up with we're fighting Al-Queda, the scourge of the earth. It amazes me how many people fall for this bullshit, Sheeple.

Hey! If all else fails blame Iran.............

US Blames Iran for Casualties from Its Own Attacks

by Gareth Porter
When a top U.S. commander in Iraq reported last week that attacks by Shi'ite militias with links to Iran had risen to 73 percent of all July attacks that had killed or wounded U.S. forces in Baghdad, he claimed it was because of an effort by Iran to oust the United States from Iraq, referring to "intelligence reports" of a "surge" in Iranian assistance.

But the obvious reason for the rise in Shi'ite-related U.S. casualties â?? ignored in U.S. media coverage of Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno's charge â?? is that the Mahdi Army of Moqtada al-Sadr was defending itself against a rising tempo of attacks by U.S. forces at the same time attacks by al-Qaeda forces had fallen.

In his press briefing on Aug. 5, Odierno, the second-ranking U.S. commander in Iraq, blamed the rise in the proportion of U.S. casualties attributable to Shi'ite militias to Iran "surging their support to these groups based on the September report" â?? a reference to the much-anticipated report by Gen. David Petraeus on the U.S.' own surge strategy.

Odierno claimed intelligence reports supported his contention of an Iranian effort to influence public perceptions of the surge strategy. "They're sending more money in, they're training more individuals, and they're sending more weapons in."

He repeated the charge in an interview with Michael R. Gordon of the New York Times published on its front page Aug. 8 under the headline, "U.S. Says Iran-Supplied Bomb Is Killing More Troops in Iraq." In that interview, he declared of Iran, "I think they want to influence the decision potentially coming up in September."

Why are Americans surprised that Iran is helping the insurgents and supplying weapons of course they are going to help.Just like America helped the Afghans get rid of the Soviets in Afghanistan. But when the shoe is on the other foot it hurts hey guys.

HUGE difference my friend. When we backed the Afghans and like Russia, we were also the big dog on the block. Iran is "trying" to play big dog when the best that they can actually do is piss with the puppies. Eventually we'll swat that lil' dog into some training IF they decide to keep it up.
