Here is the deal, seed or clone, your choice. your materials: 1- 2 liter soda bottle, 1 single output aquarium pump, upto 8 cfl's (no other lighting allowed) 1- grow net, and your medium. other than that, you can scrog, lst, natural, whatever. must be a 2 liter soda bottle bubbler. If I can get a the head honcho to send me an email regarding this, i got a little bit more to add but would like permission first. So come on guys and gals, express some interest!! lookin for the best grow, best design

never used a 2liter before. would probably make a great green house for sprouts if you were growing in dirt.
seen a system that used 2liters for the grow pots. think it was an ebb n flow. looked complicated and troublesome. if your going for a cheap system you might just want to use dirt in the mean time til you can decide on a good hydro system. drip systems are fairly cheap and easy to set up, ebb n flow in nice too. hope that might help.

I think its just for fun. cant really see anyone seriously using a 2 liter bottle for a bubbler when you could just as easily use a 5 gallon bucket and have much better success, you could put a clone in a 2 liter bottle if you really stayed up on nutrient changes for a little while anyway, but such a small resoiver would be alot of work and wouldnt even hold the root system of a very old plant you might get more interest if you only require a 2 liter bottle with no other restrictions im sure several probably have an extra clone that they are not using.

it is just for fun. the net cup and hydroton are optional, for myself i wont be using a net cup or medium. I have seen an ebb/flow 2 liter grow online, so bubbler it is. the cfl's, those are due to the debate on what they can actually do. I believe someone can pull an ounce or better dried and cured. that will require scrog or some seriouse lst. from the plant down are the only restrictions from the bottle up the only restriction is the use of cfl's. so come on guys, dont look at it as a chore but rather a challenge!!! Still need the head honcho to send me an email though. :D

That would be sundance- I'm sure we can have a contest here within the site rules, remember the shot glass competition?

I have never tried hydro, this 2 liter looks like a small way to try it out. What is the media made of that you use in the bottle? Thanks!

I will get my container built today joebear with lots of good picks... you can go from there :D good to see ya

Super, can't wait. I was assuming "media" was the liquid in the bottle. I worked in a research lab for many years and we mixed different medias to grow different things on plates and bottles. :) Will watch for the pictures.

Thanks, sorry for asking so detaily and all...Once a scientist always a scientist I guess. I've been retired 3 months and still decompressing. Gotta mellow down. I want to give some hydro a try. Been doing soil since high school, my mind craves something new!

Once i started calming down and stopped being so over zealous, hydro became fun fun fun. it gave new meaning to lazin away the day watchin the grass grow...really it grows almost that fast. This will be interesting (if peeps come play) to see how problems are overcome. Heat will be a big one. for a decent grow your gonna need 8 cfl's and 2 liters of fluid will heat up quick. add to that the little bit of heat even a single diaphragm single output air pump gives to the air it pumps. it will interesting. maintaining a proper ppm and ph balance will be very tough as the plant gets bigger. Light proofing the rez will be interesting to see too as there are so many ways it could be done but very few optimal ways. Remember as long as you use cfl's a 2 liter bottle and a single output aquarium pump to make your bubbler, the rest is up to you and what you have on hand and what you can imagine. Man i wish more people would jump in this thread and participate!! Good times

So far it's interesting. My hubby is staring at the pics you uploaded so far and drooling. He's bored bored bored and needs something to occupy his time now. Thanks for giving him some inspiration. Lately the only fun was seeing whose indoor plants were better so far. I imagine he'll be hitting up wally world and home depot before the night is through.

I first wrapped the soda bottle in two layers of duct tape. both for light proofing and hopefully a small bit of insulation. I cut the top off and wrapped the edge of the top piece with duct tape to help seal and to make it easy to remove for rez changes. added 3 small strips of tape to help hold the top in place. I cut a 5" piece of 1/4 airhose and made a circle connecting each end to a "T" Then proceeded to drill small holes in it with my razor knife. There is my bubble ring. I used my razor knife as a drill again to drill a small hole in the bottom of the container. feed my air line through the hole attached my bubble ring and removed all the slack so the ring would sit nicely on the bottom. Silicone, silicone, silicone. Lots of silicone to seal around hole no leaks=:D. flipped the top piece over and dropped it into the top of the bottle upside down. there is my grow cup. lookin around now to find a piece of foam or something to hold my plant up as i will only be using the rockwool my plant is in now as medium.. the black thingy in the picture is part of a plastic shelving system. it will serve as both my screen for my scrog and as a light fixture. more to follow as i complete the entire setup and add me a cute little girl:D

Well here is the almost complete setup. saturday i will get a roll of heavy black plastic and some velcro to completely light proof it. saturday will also be the day i pick up my cloning gel and take some clones of my nigerian. 1 to flower for early sexing and the rest to grow out. 1 of those (lucky?) ladies will end up in the bubbler in about 2 weeks. Just wanna note a few things. I used light weight foil to line. heavy duty may hold more heat, just guessin there though. and if you get yourself one of the porcelin light fixtures,($1.95 at wal-mart) and a 2 prong lamp cord(also $1.95 at wal-mart) the gold screw is hot the hot wire silver for the ground. you will know the hot wire in the cord because it has several rows of ridges that run the length of the wire. I zipped tied my power strip to the shelf as well as my pump. tidied everything up with wire ties. Going to add a couple of small computer fans for air flow and maybe a small diy carbon scrubber. I may decide to add a diy co2 made using yeast water and sugar in a small jar with a diy airlock. but we will have to see.

BTW those are 2- 26w cool white cfl's, will be adding 2 warm cfl's when my clone is ready.that will put me at 52w per sq. ft.

Hmmmmm......... decisions decisions. So I got this nice nigerian I was gonna clone and use one of them clones for my bubbler, but then just a hour ago, my friend popped in and handed me a wonderful suprise. 40 beautiful trainwreck x kali mist seeds. The temptation to germinate half a dozen is almost overwhelming. Guess i will have to think on it some.

You're supposed to do one too with your own design.... he obviously has way too much time to think on things like this!!! LOL Anyway,I'd like to see what you and other people will come up with for this too...It's a very interesting plan that if approved will reap cool benefits. Very excited to see what becomes of this thread!!!
Good luck!:jointsmile::thumbsup:

I don't know what you guys are talking about needing Sundance's approval- just post your idea and it will be dealt with. Sundance is not in the habit of emailing people to ask why they wanted to talk to him. That's what moderators are for.
If you can't post the question... think about it... ???

Nope. That doesn't fly. It violates 2 site rules, both unpaid advertising, and offer of seeds.

I suggest that a new forum be created for Contests.
I think that's an amazing idea...both the shotglass and this 2 liter competition.
Imagine if there was a section on the forum just listing different competitions to try. People could join and start whenever, when they are finished post some results and just see who can make what happen.
It'd be a great way for people to try simple new setups. A soil person who is resistant to hydro may just get hooked making a simple little bubbler. Or in my case, i'm a hydro guy and i want to do the shotglass in soil (i know that isn't really a "soil grow" but hey...it's a step in that direction.)
It just seems like a natural fit for this forum. Like a botany arcade.
Valid?

I second that. I like the idea of having a smaller side project to help keep me from overbabying my main grow. That and it just sounds like all kinds of fun to me.:rastasmoke:
