Well, I've been surfing through the grow threads/logs for a couple months now, but I haven't been posting... just collecting information.
I received some great news this week. I might be moving into a house with four of my friends next month. Once we get the lease, I'll be starting my experiment and boy, am I psyched! I haven't attempted any growing yet, but I do have a friend who has some indoor closet growing experience (unfortunately, he recently lost five four foot skunk plants when his ballast shit the bed), but he has sucked it up, got a replacement ballast, and now he has 6 AKs vegging. I donā??t know the size of my space yet (hopefully Iā??ll have that in a week or two), but Iā??m only going to grow for personal use. I also havenā??t decided what I want to use for lighting. Iā??m debating between CFLs (Iā??ve seen some inspiring results in the closet/cabinet section) and a 250 HPS. I only want one or two plants and I really donā??t want to mess with cutting up the house to put a venting/air intake system into where I choose to grow, but if I choose to go with the HPS I realize that Iā??ll probably have to do something along the lines of hole drilling and air circulation. Thankfully, I have some carpentry and electrical experience (worked a couple summers as an apprentice and have been building stuff all my life). I know the quality and yield will be greater with the 250 HPS but so wonā??t heat and electricity consumptionā?¦ correct?
With my first few attempts Iā??m going to use bag seed. I have about 30 beans I have collected over the passed year (not sure what strains, but I have 2 or 3 real tiny white ones and I believe those are haze - Iā??ve read that haze seeds usually fit that description). Hopefully I can get 15-20 females out of the group, but that might be expecting too much from bagseed.
MJ is the love of my life, so I think I can be a damn good horticulturalist if I apply myself. I donā??t only want them to smoke, but I also want to see this beautiful gift from mother nature grow and mature with my own eyes.
I just wanted to fill everyone in on my situation, because Iā??ll be popping up more frequently in the next few weeks for some infoā?¦ donā??t worry, Iā??ll try to search before I ask questions.
Lastly, would anyone be willing to mentor a newb when Iā??m ready to begin?
