Hi folks,
I am just back from amsterdam and enjoyed it so much that I am looking into buying/Leasing/Renting a cafe over there. I have quite alot of business expereance and really think that I could make this work.
Could anyone give me any advice on this? even some links to cafes for sale or legislation info on this subject.
I spoke to someone on the chat channel and they suggested that the amsterdam government are limiting the number of new cannabis cafes to be opened and this would require that i would have to buy/rent an existing cafe and develop that. Could anyone confirm this?
Any help would be greatfully receaved.
Peace Out

They wanted to restrict the sale of cannabis in cafes to citizens of the netherlands only. This likely will not happen, because it would kill their tourist industry and stop them from making money.

Ive tried googling lots of varations of starting a cannabis cafe but cant find anything atall.
I'm going to speak to the scottish business enterprise and see if they can find out any info as legally what we are doing is sound as its legal in the country we are starting it in.
I'm sure there must be a site that lists property for sale in nl but i cant find anything with shops in it.
I let you know what the SBE say when i speak to them.

Not sure how long that would last in Edinburgh mate but I would def visit it. :)
I checked out that link and it looks like it only references to a normal coffee shop not a cannabis shop.
If anyone else has any suggestions dont hesitate to drop me an email.

Sounds like you're doing it on a whim to me. It also sounds like you've done 0 research on a pretty massive undertaking. What business experience do you have exactly? How's you're knowledge of Dutch tax law, business law etc?

i suspect that the way forward is to contact property agents in holland
i also think that u would have to be a resident to lease
also last time i was there the houses in amsterdam where over £1 million sterling each, just imagine how much a shop costs!!
not even the SHOP!! how much do you think a licence to deal would cost??
and the queues!!!
only the rich get richer
don't let this put you off mate.
it's just gonna be hard- but not impossible. :)

teknonra these are all the questions i have been asking myself mate, it seems very difficult to find out any info like this.
mr chinnery you are so right about saying this is on a wim, and this may not always be the best way to start a new business but when there is an opportunity then shouldnt you grab it by the horns? as for business experiance well lets just say I have started more than one succesful business. I currently own a hosting company here in Scotland and we have been very sucessful. Due to the nature of this site I wont go into what company I run as in Britain there are alot of people that wouldnt give a second though into dropping our business because i am a stoner... im sure you understand my worries.
As for research this is what I am doing now, if you have a question about cars wouldnt you ask a mechanic? I am asking you bunch of stoners as who is more likly to know about amsterdam and smokin than stoners?
When in amsterdam i noticed a few empty shops that were quite small but i dont need anything massive, just comfortable with chilled music and a great atmosphere. what else do you need, except the weed of course.
Thats another thing that i will need to speak to the owners of the shops about when i go back in May, suppliers. Where do you think these guys buy there weed? do they grow there own or do (the more obvious way) they buy it from a supplier like you would do in Britain for coffee and the like?
I have lots of questions so far and very few answers but thats how businesses always start.
As for the invite to the new cafe, you will all be very welcome :) but it wont be for a while yet unless i get to grips with the legalitees of this project.
Thanks for the responces guys
BU5T4 do you know anyone over there? I know of someone there, and he just told me the other day that no one can open any more Cannabis Cafes there, at least this is the talk around the town, and what the locals all believe. Email me and we can talk more on this:
