i've often pondered this same thought line...
i wouldn't expect any christian to acknowledge this thought process tho.... =/ if you might get angry at them calling you stupid or the like i'd suggest not coming back... because i have a feeling they're gonna have alot to say on the subject...

They aren't literal though - they are representative characters, you have to be kidding yourself if you think they were real people.
Hell, if you even beleive they were 'people' then you missed the point.
~ There is nothing new in the Story of Jesus it's just a rehash of old Egyptian Pagan beliefs. It was thousands of years old by the time Christians got a hold of it.
About two thousand years before the Christian era Mut-em-ua, the virgin Queen of Egypt, was said to have given birth to the Pharaoh Amenkept (or Amenophis) III, who built the temple of Luxor, on the walls of which were represented:-
1. The Annunciation: the god Taht announcing to the virgin Queen that she is about to become a mother.
2. The Immaculate Conception: the god Kneph (the Holy Spirit) mystically impregnating the virgin by holding a cross, the symbol of life, to her mouth.
3. The Birth of the Man-god.
4. The Adoration of the newly born infant by gods and men, including three kings (or Magi ?), who are offering him gifts. In this sculpture the cross again appears as a symbol.

A total rejection of anything that doesn't agree with what you've already decided, therefor it's true. Man, I get so frustrated sometimes that humanity is forever stuck in this primitive mindset, one that doesn't question everything and look for answers based on logic, instead of wishes.
It's bad enough how every "proof" for god is formed around the same pseudo-logic of "well lookie here, we can't explain how such-and-such could work. That proves god did it!" We've done it since the very beginning, and when science finally explains it logically we just move on to the next mystery, proclaiming our current ignorance as proof of the almighty invisible dictator of the universe.
This all bothers me for one reason. That humanity will never surpass its problems until we fully accept that we have to take control of our reality, learn everything about it, so we can then control and form it to one without suffering or whatever other problems. I just wish we'd all take responsibility, learn whatever we can, and accept that we can't always fill in the answers with dieties every time we can't provide them at the moment.

How can people even think that Jesus died for our sins? How did that happen? He was crucified on a tree how does that mean he died for our sins?
Get a grip on reality and just try to be the best person you can be in this life because this is it.There ain't no free train ride to paradise when you die.

Well first he was born to a virgin.............
His dad was a magic man in the sky................
He performed "miracles" and cured sick people.................
But the devil's influence cause people to crucify him.........
Then he magically took the form of a spirit and unlocked the gates of a magical place in the sky..................
Was god just too lazy to walk over to the gates and unlock them himself? I mean he would rather sit on his ass, create a son and then have him die and rise up 33 yrs later to us instead of just getting off the couch and doing it himself?

The story is a spin-off of various pagan beliefs true, but Jesus himself was a real person, documented and crucified. Scholars are coming around to the notion that Pilate faked his crucifiction and snuck him off to Paris with Mary Magdalene, but I couldn't careless(I am not checking spelling on this post so sue me)

but him bein gods sun no,this is how i see it mary slept with someone and her hubby didnt know because wasnt she sopposedly a virgin? in those days a woman who cheated would probably be killed so when she turned up pregnant she blamed it on some almighty spirit and thats how it all began i do believe ppl back then thought it was true so thats why all that shit happened later on down the road to jesus he got crucified and what not dont know about how long he lived but i do believe he went through hell cause his mom didnt want to
Iam speachless, wow I cant belive what I just read ,wow, that statement was so far out in left feild I dont even know where to begain, I I I uhhhh wow, is that what the best you can do that she cheated on her hubby, and then out of the blue she said a almighty
spirt made her to be with child, and then people belived her and then shit happened down the road? and then Jesus got killed cause
hes mom did not want to go to hell? WOW! my friend have you ever
even seen a bible? you know that big black book that says holy bible
on it, I mean if you want I will send you one free of charge, and then you could read the gospel of john, at least then you will at least have the story right. even if you dont belive at least you will have the story right, dont think Iam putting you down I was just
shocked, its still hard for me to belive that people can live in this country and not know what 1st grade sunday school teaches, but then again they took God out of school and look at how much better
are kids are doing, like bringing guns to school and shooting everyone, back in my day that kind of thing was unthinkable, if you
hade a promblem with a bully you stood up to him with honor, you held fast to what was right, but then again back then we belived in
a right and wrong, we held true to the believe that there was somthing greater then are selfs, we belived in God and country, and
we honered those who fought and died for are freedom a freedom
that gave you the right to belive in what you want, but also to
respect the rights of others. so that all men could live as one nation.:)

in order to be a good patriot you must first be a good person and according to some you cannot be a good person without the easter bunny (sorry, i mean christ). somewhere along the line the christians seem to have cornered the market on morality. this must have happened while i was asleep, but it must be true because the christians say so and they are the moral ones because they say so. just a bit more of that good sound circular logic.

well the bible has cornered the market on morality, now we know that bad things do happen to good people, but for the most part we can leave are home like we do every day and go to the store or go to work, are go out and enjoy a movie and dinner, and not have to fear that we will get shot down dead or have are cars stollen ect..... because are society has based its law on the moral
laws that we get from the bible, so even if you dont belive in God you are still living under his protection, and if some one breaks these law and gets caught he will have to pay the price, and justice will be served. do not think for one minute that anyone will get away with anything, for every thing that we do in this life is being wrote down, the good and the bad, even if you dont belive.

..... because our society has based its law on the moral laws that we get from the bible....
which would be a valid argument if the concept of such ethics didn't predate the bible by thousands of years. the conceit that leads so many christians to declare ownership of these moral laws is one of the more laughable aspects of the religion.

"Fix Reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve the homage of reason than of blindfolded fear. ... Do not be frightened from this inquiry by any fear of its consequences. If it end in a belief that there is no God, you will find incitements to virtue in the comfort and pleasantness you feel in its exercise and in the love of others which it will procure for you"

Iam sorry but your argument makes no sence, the law was given
by God through moses, who recourded the beganing of man, I dont
know of any law that was givin THOUSANDS of years before are
earlest manuscripts. For since the creation of the world God,s
invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature have been
clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
it is writen thou shall not murder, why do we think it is wrong? who said it was wrong? and why do you think there is a wrong and
right? by what you write it would safe to say that you do not belive in God. so if there is no God and there is not a law set by God, then why do we as people belive in a right and wrong?, who
has set the standered? some caveman? and if a caveman set the standered why would I live by his standered? who is he to tell what I can and can not do? I do not live by any mans standered
why would I? why is his way better then mine? its not, that is the answer. but I live by a standered that has been written down on my heart, by the one who created me. ah theres the rub.

There are people putting down believers, believers putting down non-believers, it seems like you're on teams. Then there's the people who care, or don't care, and live their life through their own eyes. You'd think they'd be the puffers. Pot is famous for giving one a "third-person perspective".

here is where it ends. i have been waiting for that one ludicrous moment when it was declared that since god's presence was felt since the beginning of time, all good must flow from him. you took your own sweet time to get there.
some of my earliest memories are of discussions of religion and philosophy with my grandfather. he was a minister, a religious scholar and missionary who spent a great deal of his life traveling around the world teaching this tripe to the unsuspecting natives. it usually took him about two hours to reach this point. he would probably be a bit disappointed that you didn't give logic a better try before using this cliche.
